Congratulations Gio :)

Yea but manual counting would be too much work.

Not really, only two people have suggested they may have changed their minds.

I'm not for it really, it would be a mess if it happened en masse.

Basic approach should be to vote if you see clear superiority, wait to hear from the managers if a concern has been raised, and wait out a bit more if you think there are possible variations that can change things (that's where being able to see who the subs are is important).

The feedback early on (posts and votes) is very valuable and it's annoying if people just keep all the votes for late on, but a game shouldn't be killed from the off.

While Gio has a valid point that wrong tactics can lose you a game inside ten minutes, Pol's tactics in this game were not that sort. They raised fair questions as to his ability to win, but that side wouldn't have been leaking goals left right and centre as a result of a more cautious approach with Silva holding!

As it turns out the game was over before it started and we've just spent two days discussing Rob Jones' claims to superstardom.

A long ball from Cesc Fabregas is intercepted by Rob Jones...

His searing pace leaves Overmars for dead, much to the frustration of the winger:

He slips a ball into the box for Gerrard, who goes down under the challenge from Adams:

A stonewall penalty!

Rooney converts. Cashley can't believe it.

Few bothered to analyse the impact of Silva on midfield and the overall dynamics of the game
I made the same mistake as you did in the 70s draft - over-thinking about tactics, how the game would play out and going for control of the game rather than what the voters can see easily and like to see
Gio may not agree but I think both Theon and myself have better players than him. It was my mistake that caused my players to lose. The same squad of players in another manager's hands could have won.

 He is the worst player on display so he naturally received the most attention. Lehmann and Le Saux are grateful for his presence.

Well played and well organised Polaroid.

Congratulations once again Gio
You are a deserving winner. Although I do not rate some of your players highly, it takes a good manager to get them to win and you are a good manager, you earned this victory for yourself and your team :)

Strength in key areas was the difference for voters I'd suggest. Ferdinand/Campbell was proven and impregnable, Essien/Gerrard/Alonso was the best three for a midfield battle, while Ronaldo was a significant vote-winner on his own.

Yups, I lost that entirely on people's horror when Rivaldo didn't get picked. It was an avalanche of people showing their disapproval before I even explained the rationale :(

Learned the lesson for the 50s and fielded a formation which matched Brwned's, although from the very beginning I thought my final formation (with Breitner at wingback and Boniek marauding from the right) was the best way to approach the game. Would have got killed if I started with that though.

Still lost though

You hit the nail on the head when pointing out to what extent people are influenced by the current Ronaldo. Ours was great, but nowhere near as insanely good as the current one. Takes the shine off Henry who was the pick of the era, no doubt.

Don't go all Wenger on them, Overmars should have had a field day in the next 80 minutes. Slacker.

BTW, did any of you have any plans to pick Beckham? Maybe Pol to screw Theon?

Campbell was on the cards (instead of McGrath) when Theon took Beckham as his second pick. TBH, he was going for Vidic anyway, but I felt maybe he could ride Beckham for longer and secure Campbell as the standout CB he badly needed?

The manager usually thinks much thoroughly than the voter who might just take mere seconds to decide
The sight of Rivaldo directly pitted against Gary Kelly could have seen the avalanche going the other way

I concur

Brwned was luckier than you in the upgrades he got, especially after the semi
If you two had met earlier, I would have you comfortably winning it
Scirea and Passarella swapped and I would have you winning the final as well

Incredible how much higher he has raised his own bar after moving to Spain, his competitive drive vis-a-vis Messi is one factor I think

I did not have the plan
Maybe Omar or Gio? Omar had Ruud, Gio had an England contigent in Rooney, Owen, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Le Saux

Zico and Blokhin, completely changed his side. I got Platini and Elkjaer who frankly had some handy qualities but wasn't much of an improvement on Morena (who I rate much higher as a finisher, but not overall play).

I had banked on getting Blokhin or Rummenigge, maybe Sanchez, upfront along the way but they all ended up in my rival team! Brwned got Rummenigge in the post group draft while all I could get by my turn was McGrath (superb as he was, not anywhere near as much of a match-winner).

Very unlucky there.

Yes, he was charmed there, picking up Scirea after the QF too!
