Yes we have some bad players that should not even be getting looks in champions league games, but surely the coaching staff knows that. You can’t try to baby confidence in every player when a bunch of them have proven they are shit or over the hill.

Yes AWB got a red due to his terrible technique but for me going down to 10 men against a team
of this caliber can definitely be mitigated. What we saw with the quick substitution after the red card was panic and cowardice. 8 minutes to the half. See it out. Then make a change. This gave young boys impetus as it became very clear what we will be doing moving forward. They knew it was coming at half time.


We did not do ourselves favours on the pitch either.. bad players and bad management only leads to one result.


I want Ole to stay long term but if we don’t make it out the group he should be sacked.

My answer is, overall, I'm reasonably happy with Ole's tactics and changes - and very happy with the attitude he's instilled around the club and the squad we've been slowly assembling.

He gets some things wrong as regards team selections and subs, as all managers do. On this thread I'm just focusing on this one game - and, for me, most of the tactical decisions were wrong from the moment AWB was sent off. And I've said what I was hoping he'd do instead.

Because we were being hemmed back, Ronaldo wasn't closing anyone down and Bruno had barely touched it for 20mins.
Brave calls to take the top boys off, and of course will bear scrutiny when that happens in the last min.

Sometimes we lose. Sometimes the manager makes mistakes. Pep, Klopp, Zidane all make mistakes too. We are all bummed that we lost, but I really think that given the circumstances, Ole had the right tactics. “Going for it” against a well organized side may have meant a conceded goal… then the Ole Outers would be out in force, saying he was naive.

The individual player performances were not great, but constantly chasing is incredibly taxing physically. Essentially, he DID try to steal one at the end by bringing Fred off for Martial and moving Lingard back.

I think one of the main things people dislike about Ole is his subs.
Whether it’s the timing / lack of / or correct players

so being 1-0 up against young boys was good.

Actually think Young Boys played the field to their advantage really well. The extra zip on the ball worked for them and went against us, we were only really coming to terms with the bounce and pace of the ball when AWB was sent off and at that point they used the extra man really well.

One thing I will say is we didn't protect our defence well enough, for me Bruno or Pogba should have come off at half time and sat with Fred in front of the three Cb's.

We will live to fight another day but it now opens the group up for the other clubs that will have seen us as the groups favourites.

It's a good job its early in the season, if this game happened in a months time I'd be more worried. Clueless performance from management and players alike.

Took Sancho off after the sending off, with no pace left on the pitch to move us up the field was our biggest mistake, we tried to do an England and sit back on a lead for 70 minutes, remember how that turned out...

AWB has to learn you can't get away with that in Champions League.

I know people keep banging on about DVB to be given a chance but every time he plays, I really dont see a good player in there. He doesn't look like he is at this standard at all.

Hope McTominay is back soon, as our midfield options are very limited.

CR7 looked like a bulldog licking a nettle at the end of the game, he won't be happy with our usual standard of dropping down into the Europa.

With the exception of Kante, under various managers each of Chelsea’s midfielders have at one time or another been viewed as not good enough or not suitable to English football. But under the right manager each of those once criticised midfielders looks like a top player.

Lingard is a product of the park bus approach that we have seen not working before. He shouldnt be where he is.
Ive said before and say again. Our negativity has been revealed for years in our set up for defending set pieces. ALL players in the box...no out ball so when cleared it comes back in or invites a shot from the edge of the box. As Neves knows. Inviting pressure.
It is an amateurish setup...and a metaphor for what we witness when the going gets tough.

Sorry but it was pathetic taking off Sancho, and eventually Fernandes and Ronaldo when we went to 10 man. We foolishly attempted to defend for 55 minutes when we should have gone for the kill. We have one of the most lethal attacking line-ups in the entire world, and we cower behind a 1-0 lead against a team that would struggle to win the English championship? If that's our plan for the future games that we go 10 man, then I'm afraid that's not a good sign is it? Forgot about the 2-1 loss to Istanbul already have you?

I like Ole and never was an Ole out guy, but watching the face of McKenna and Carrick after the sending off scared me. It was like they were lost…and Ole is always chatting with them.
Add to that our inability to keep the ball and be very frustrating, I don’t know what to make of it.

If it was City or Chelsea no way they would have been that bad against this team. They probably would have had most of the possession and chances.

But at the same time the team has progressed well.

So really, it is a difficult choice, but at the end of the day, Ole seems to lack this killing instinct which can turn him from good to great.
