The problem with us in the final third is our attackers are poor, not just Antony.
Antony actually tries and has potential.
You have Sancho and Martial doing absolutely nothing all game. No ball progression, barely any dribbles or takeons, just filling space.
In fact, I'll go further. I personally think Martial is the most overrated player in the league.
Why? Because our fans don't really see him for what he is and has always been. It's not attitude, it's not effort, it's always been ability.

He lacks agility, he finds impossible to actually play of his right side, which is why he's always been so poor of the right wing (he's actually very one footed), due to this he can only really dribble cutting in from the left ( which he requires space to do). His shooting technique is very limited, so he finds it very difficult to create space to shoot, literally relying on the right angles for placement. His aerial threat is almost non-existant, he has no predatory instincts, barely runs off the ball and he can barely sustain a press. Since his return, even his link up has been relatively poor. This feature was also overrated.

Add this to Sancho. Sancho doesn't offer anything. He only does a take on from a standing position, without the intention of actually using the space on the occassions it's succesful. He passes back at the sign of any danger, doesn't get involved in the game and is also as much of an issue in the press as Ronaldo was when he was here. He's another one with limited technique. Whether passing or shooting, he gets no power on the ball, everything just comes off very tame and non threatening from him.

Yet somehow, Antony, the one who was involved in almost all our attacks. Putting himself out there despite his limitations, is the one being pointed out in the attack? At least he has intensity, at least he has a plan of what he wants to do and he doesn't hide. I wish we had gotten a better player, but he's far better for us that Martial and Sancho.
Totally agree that Sancho and Martial are not good enough. There is a player in Antony but he was very overpriced at 85m. Hopefully we sign a proper striker this summer but ETH must do better than he did with Antony.

Rashford - New striker - Antony is a good front 3 supported by a classy CM signing.

5v3 and we don’t take a shot. Finishing must ne better. Antony poor decision making. Eriksen again too timid in midfield.

Glad we won.

Weird game. Wolves basically pleaded with us to beat them and score as much as we like but we just couldn’t muster up the composure to score 6/7.

He got an assist, had a good shot brilliantly saved, tracked back all the time, tackled, got involved...

I'm not sure how much more we can except from a young player coming from the Dutch league, playing his first PL season. You lot are very harsh on him.

Yeah, I'm puzzled by the criticism he's getting.

If he actually played consistently I may agree with you.
I think the remark about Antony was off beam. No, he is not perfect. But clearly the manager believes in him. That run he made in the second half was a hint of the promise he offers. Not the finished article, and yes, frustrating at times, but there is something there that may yet come to fruition. I would contend that he was one of the top three United players along with Bruno and AWB.

Great result. Didn't watch the game and listening to it on FiveLive, it sounded a little bit of a drag..but that's where we are and we just have to accept that.

Well done ETH, continuing to work with limited squad. Great that Garnacho was back.

Beacaue he is hands down our best option on the right? And not the problem in our front three that consists of a number 9 that looks out if breath after ten mins?

Why is it so hard for some of you, especially staff members to own up to talking out of their arses from time to time? It's ok man
Inappropriate behaviour   How pathetic can you get

I don’t get the negativity on the finishing? Their keeper made three or four really good saves on Antony and Sancho.

Yeah I think he’s contributing a lot really. I could see him improving a lot next year as he gets a bit more experienced. He gets through a lot of work.

I see huge parallels with the way people treated Nani when he was here and Antony. Ironically, Nani was unplayable for a few seasons and people still seem to judge him harshly and someone like Valencia (for example) who was extremely one dimensional and didn't have half the talent gets a free pass. I suspect people have chosen to dislike Anthony whatever he does, as they did with Nani.

Valencia gets a free pass on RedCafe? No waaay :D

Another garbage performance but job done I guess. We need a good summer clear out and get some quality in.

Direct quote from ETH:
”We are very good at making the opponents’ goalkeeper man of the match. We did at Brighton and we did today. We have to be more clinical. We have to work on that conversion, definitely”

You clearly didn’t watch the game . Wolves didn’t have a shot on target. The same wolves that beat Villa last weekend . Some people can’t be pleased

I heard the interview but at times you just have to give the keeper credit for making quality saves which they were

It's alright it got a bit heated and I might have wound @Raoul up unintentionally by my wording. Little difference in opinion on Antony and after games emotions always run high. I'm one of the worst culprits when it comes to that

There is no denying that they weren’t good saves but quality finishes won’t allow that to happen

Actually thought the shots were well taken….low and into the corners but keeper made strong one handed saves

Yeah it's a bit unconventional to vote for Garnacho MotM, given his minutes, but just had to. Stands out for me as the cheekiest and hungriest player on pitch, a reminder of what should be standard at such a prestigeous club. Recently, the footy doesn't look too good, but he delivers every time. As I said earlier, pity he wasn't a starter, but then, good to at least have one guy on the bench that can move into higher gears when subbed in no matter the opposition. A jewel.

Yeah, I'm puzzled by the criticism he's getting.

I think it's overboard. I mean, compare him to Sancho, who in my opinion will never have what it takes to be a top level footballer at this club. At least with Antony you can see the potential.

The price tag doesn't help him though. For that price, you're looking for finished article not potential!

Yep, far more worried by Sancho personally. Double the time here, and just seems to have so little drive and aggression about him.
Antony has that Martinez style will to win and just needs to learn to vary his play a little and get better at decision making.

Today he could have laid an easy ball to Martial who'd have had a great chance, but instead shot wise.
However, he got the other assist spot on.

His sort of player will always get people excited.
Proper old school fearless pacy winger who'll take people on. Totally different style to all our other wide players.

Hopefully we got the monkey off our back with this one.

Antony needs to spend the entire summer working on his finishing. He could have easily had 10 goals in the league this season if his finishing weren't so poor. Not meaning to slag him off as he does a lot of things really well, but to get to that next level he needs to start burying his chances.

Garnacho, what can you say...gotta love the kid.

Proper is such a proper word! He's the future.

Also, honours you to be so patient with Antony. Somehow I can't bring myself to that... His running against brick walls has cost them countless opportunities, bits of enthusiams as well perhaps, and that's usually poison - but fair to say I may overestimate that, plus seeing things aren't flowing naturally is a good incentive for a player to try do it on his own, which he may be doing for the lads, to his credit. However, twenty years ago, you come into the team and take these liberties, and often wastefully so, you'd get a massive snarl, and rightly so. Perhaps that's what's so desperately needed here.

Normally, when you pay 85m for a player, they should be the finished article. He has fight, determination, a good workrate. But his final ball is typically poor, he is so one footed, he rarely crosses the ball to keep defenders honest, and he’s poor at finishing.

‘Sancho has been awful, but Antony hasn’t been much better.

Good win, Wolves have been a sticky enough opponent over the last while.

Great to see Garnacho back, the kid has somehting special in him. Love the way he plays, that's what we should be seeing from Sancho and Antony every week.

Nice nick. Bit harsh to say garbage though; it’s all about getting points at this stage

Yet he played well today. One assist and a brilliant save away from scoring, with another shot inches wide of the post with the keeper beaten. Plus that fantastic run from deep which ended in a very good chance for Martial. Why do people so often just list off preconceptions about players instead of acknowledging their performance on the day?

Good result. We just aren't as smooth with our passing as we had been in December and January. It almost comes together then someone mucks it up.

- Antony played well but he should have had at least 2 goals. The header, not shooting with his right and two good saves
- I kept pleading for Garnacho to come in after 60'. If he doesn't start he needs to see at least 25 minutes or so and it doesn't matter the score.
- I really don't want Bruno to shoot anymore free kicks. I can't remember the last time he actually forced a keeper to make a good save.

This will put a lot of pressure on Liverpool on Monday and with LC needing a result....

It's nice playing a team with nothing to play for because they barely pressed when De Gea had the ball, and that causes us so many problems. We needed De Gea to have zero shots as when he's low on confidence anything can go in

They rushed De Gea every time there was a pass back, especially in the first half. It was a clear tactic they thought could unravel DG. He did well for the most part.

Take the 3 points, while we dominated, inability to make the right pass or finish chances has been a huge problem this season, hopefully rectified next season. Wolves really didn't care too much till the last 10 min or so and at 1-0, I was sweating bullets.

Was calling for Fred for Eriksen earlier, he really loses his legs into the second half and as teams try to go at us a bit more and with Casemiro on a yellow already, it's such a liability. Antony had a good game, that run from our own half down the sidelines was excellent but, then epitomized his season, that desperate desire to cut infield which took away the better options. Bad decision making and all, still generally our best right winger.

Thankfully a week again to the next game and maybe getting Rashford back and Varane a bit fitter, Garnacho an option against a Bournemouth team with not much to play for, maybe actually win an away game, giving us 2 home games to get the job done without relying on others.

Get in there.

Needed that win. Garnacho scoring like he did was either madness attempting it or sheer balls on his part. Love him.

Once again when Rashford is out injured, we end up averaging more goals per game than when he plays. And as a bonus, our attack is much more free-flowing. Granted, we could still have been more composed on the ball.

Instead of constantly trying to feed Rashford on the break, who will most likely wander into tight corridors or run into a defender and lose it, we now involve more of our attacking players.

Antony and Sancho aren't as quick as Rashford. And they may not be the perfect wingers we really need, especially Sancho. But, they add so much more to our control and possession of our entire game.

We often play better without Rashford.
Yes, he will often times score. But that comes at a cost of the rest of the team, just like it was with Ronaldo. When he doesn't play, we don't miss his goals... Because we end up scoring 2-3 goals anyway. And when he does play, everything has to go through him, at the cost of the rest of our team.

Rashford needs dropping more often.
I'd like to see him utilized more as a late sub, whereas he can use his pace to run behind a tired backline.

Granted, I know that's never going to happen, since he is our protected golden boy and local lad. We should be more ruthless, and put the team before any player.

Oh my God, that free kick was crying out for a low curler around the wall. Bruno can't get it up-and-down from anywhere within 25 yards and yet he keeps trying it!

I wouldn't mind us signing JWP in the summer for no other reason than we'd finally have a player in the squad who could free kicks!
