Winning when playing awfully is the key to success!

The midfield players need to up their game and be more consistent (as the defenders now are) but the feeling remains that we won't be winning much w/o as decent goal scorer.
In no shape or form was that playing awfully, not every game can be silky and fluid, United weren't at their best to be sure but they weren't poor.

Given recent history with Wolves this is exactly the type of game I expected, United have struggled against high-press teams in recent times but they're now starting to figure out how to deal with it

We looked very weak up front till Rashford came on. That's going to become a problem as the season progresses.

It just means we don't have a proper CF, that doesn't make it playing awfully as a team

I see BT Sport have renamed MotM as Player of the Match. Doesn't have the same ring to it...

So fecking frustrating losing those first two games isn't it when you look at results today
If we hadn't lost those two games (and the way we did), maybe EtH doesn't go with a Varane/Martinez partnership or make the other adjustments he did which has lead to more wins down the road. It is what it is at this point. If we had tied City somehow, we'd only be a point behind them.

Either way it just feels like our best football is ahead of us, especially if we get a half decent striker (that can score more than what Ronaldo was)

Clean sheet, fantastic. De Gea.. what a player he has been, and continues to be... back four, super work.

These performances will happen with so many games..squad's win titles, and we need to add, and shift some out.

I have nothing more to say about Anthony Martial. I mean, he didn't even go to the World Cup.

Neither did De Gea, Martial was shiite today but how on earth does he get a lower rating than DVB?

In fairness to Antony wasn't he injured not long before the WC and didn't have a lot of game time there either? He's doing alright all things considered imo, he was far from the worst in our front four today. Obviously hope for more from him when fully fit and settled.

It was a good professional away performance.

We still need to be better up front. Still too sloppy in possession.

Other broadcasters have done the same, all rather pathetic. Can't have the word 'Man' in it.

Three points at Wolves is always good, and a clean sheet is a great bonus. Wolves kept coming but we matched their work rate and then some. Rashford is having an excellent season and looks dangerous but we despeately need a player who can get 20 goals a season, or more; Martial isnt that man, in fact we'll be lucky if we get 20 games from him. I watched Haaland on MOTD score against Everton and he simply has the knack of knowing how to score; theres no way he would not have taken the chances Martial had today; Martial is simply not a natural goal scorer and never will be.

Varane is a scary defender. What a fecking monster
When we have Varane and Casemiro playing, I feel like we have a chance with any team,, as long as our forwards remember how to finish their many chances. Obviously, that impenetrable defense becomes even better when Licha is around, but apparently we also have a world class CB in Luke fecking Shaw! Pretty badass how he's bossed around in the last two games. Much respect.

Martial is best suited on the left, he is not your typical striker and never will be. A real striker will be loitering in the penalty box like RVP, Ruud, Chicharito and etc. I hope Martial can score a few goals so we can get a decent transfer fee back but we should never believe he is our answer to our situation.

With somebody like Joao Felix on loan, a manager like Ten Hag could get us to top 4. And then we hopefully have new owners who will clean this club off the players like Lindelof, AWB, Maguire, McT, and Fred and give us big summer transfer budget to buy us what we need:

1. A world class CF (120M)
2. A backup CB (50M)
3. Understudy RB behind Dalot (20M)
4. At least one top midfielder. (60M)
5. A young GK behind De Gea (20M)

or around 270M worth, except with proper sales we should be able to raise at least 70M of those, leaving us with 200 mil net budget, pretty realistic with new owners.

Then we can start fighting for trophies!

Yes Martial is not a clinical striker and he does not create enough chances. He is not top four material and is our weakest link atm. I would actually prefer Morata.

He's insane, we need to start winning trophies for him to get the recognition he deserves here.
We have to win something this season and next or the likes of Varane, Casemiro and Martinez might well start thinking they made the wrong decision in coming to United.

Well, If we keep this going we might end up 3rd or 2nd. City must keep on losing points though. Am I too positive or??

Who exactly is this world class CF that would cost a £120m?

He needs to solve the left side predictability. Either he passes no matter what or he needs to create variation and choose his right side sometimes.

He’s more like Benzema and Benzema scores plenty. Martial seems to have a bit of issues but he’s still bringing a lot of technical control so putting him in situation should help.

4th with 32pts . Who would have thought that, and were still 66-1 with the bookies ?.
Sounds like you need to go to the bookies then....at that price you only need to outlay a little to gain a lot.

Come on mate!
I was a big fan of Tony in his first couple of seasons but he has really not pushed on and you cannot see he is remotely like Benzema as he is a complete striker.

Would you prefer him over Kane
For a long-term rebuild - yes. Younger, more potential. Kane is definitely a significant force in EPL, but he is also getting quite old, has never won anything, and some would argue – bottles big games.

Anyway, I understand why somebody would need Kane at United, and I would certainly not hate it, but personally I would prefer somebody like Osimhen

Could afford both with Qatari owners, however that would be silly because we need a CM who can progress the ball along with CB & RB cover.

If we had a quality striker we'd have won comfortably. It's the missing piece. The midfield was fine and it's no coincidence that the closest thing we have to a striker coming on turned the game.

We may as well go for Johnathan David then as we would get him at half the price and he is a couple of years younger and he is the same type of player.

For €100 million you would expect much more than doing “alright”. Of course I believe and back him to come good but really and truly…he has been awful the last two games. Let’s hope he plays himself into form.

This! Spot on! i agree with every single word, character, comma, figure in this post!!

You are very spot on on what we need coming summer transfer. You could maybe say if not Joao Felix then we could consider Thuram on the cheap and he would then also stay after summer if he has done enough and fight with Martal and the new world class CF

If you’re really lumping those two performances in together then you’re definitely not being fair to him.

Why? I’m not bashing the guy but I am commenting on the basics. Control, basic passing, finishing. He has looked like an over eager youth player - not a top signing returning from World Cup duty. He has looked well off the pace at a time we need our big players to step up. I am sure he will but for me he was a stand out yesterday for all the wrong reasons.

I've noticed that even when we're not playing well we can now control games to an extent. The first half was pretty average yet we maintained large portions of possession and created 2-3 very good chances.

The football is coming together I really hope we have new owners in for the summer to back the manager because we aren't that far off the top.

Why? Because they were two very different performances. He got nothing right against Forest and most things right against Wolves.
