West Ham United 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

The penalty was a joke, that's true. But, being 14th on the table after such a poor last season, cannot be a coincidence. The only thing ten Hag is good at is finding excuses.

I suppose ETH won't be counting this match either due to the dodgy penalty, so it's ok.

Effectively, a quarter of the season gone and we are going nowhere, except sliding downwards.

I said in another thread a couple of days ago, we are in snakes and ladder’s territory with our league position and looking at how close the other teams around us are in the table.
Rather than slipping one or two places, like at the top end of the league, losing games from our position, can send you sliding right down to the bottom quarter of the table in no time.

Unless a team in this situation, can string together a long winning run, they are not going to get out of the bottom half.
That’s where we are. Stuck fast in the bottom half.

Never a pen. Just because De Ligt moves into the situation upright whereas the attacker falls into the whole thing with no composure, doesn't mean a complete 50/50 where no one plays the ball is a foul. Aside of that the attacker is basically catching the ball with his hands. Farcical decision and farcical for VAR to get involved. That said, 11 points from 9 games is not down to the refs.

Think you're quite a bit over the top here. Bruno's had a bad season generally so far, but he was actually excellent today. Season best both from him and Casemiro. Rashford and Højlund were the weak points today.

I don’t think I am. I haven’t seen the stats but I imagine Bruno’s created chances weren’t too high today and I know his giveaways were up there. He tried a fair amount of long balls that didn’t come off at all.

I agree Rash and Hojlund were poor. Hojlund at this stage is not a guy that takes over games. His conversion rate is pretty good but he’s either got to start creating more for himself or we have to create more from wide area. Both are nonexistent at the moment.

Rashford I’m just done with. I’m tired of the roller coaster to see if he decides to try each game. I honestly think he’s done at the top level. I don’t know if it was the injuries, but he’s lost pace and it’s noticeable. That was a huge part of his game and without it he looks incapable of beating a defender. I’ll go as far as saying, I think the manager that gets our offense going again will be the one that decides to drop and/or sell him.

We are cursed.
No, we are not cursed. Those running our club are indecisive as feck. Things would have been so much better if the manager was "deservedly" sacked 30 matches before. Every sacking comes nearly one year too late. Has happened every single time.

Couldn’t give a toss if it was a penalty or not.

Sick of Ten Hag excuses.

Daylight robbery.
Anyone that thinks Erik was at fault and not the players on the pitch needs to have a real think about football.

Its beyond surreal that Oliver can keep on doing shit like yesterday year after year without any consequence. The agenda is clear and obvious. Just by looking at him you know something is wrong.

Such a weak post match presser from EtH. Does not sound like a manager that feels hard done by. Had every right to go on a real rant, but just came across weak as always. How can he have the back of his players when he does not stand up for them? Sack him already, he just does not bring it.

He could have changed it tactically
No.....the players need to direct the ball between the two goalposts and below the crossbar out of the goalkeeper's reach.
No matter what tactics Erik employs we cannot win a game unless we score goals and in the modern game one is rarely enough.

Bruno had a number of exquisite key passes and through balls. In that regard yesterday was completely different from other recent games. The giveaways and failed passes will always be there, the difference between a bad Bruno game and a good Bruno game is generally that with the bad ones there isn't too much else, while with the good ones you get a good volume of can-openers that generally serve as the main fuel of our attacking game. I thought Brentford was a good example of the former, yesterday as good an example of the latter as we've gotten this season.

Can't say I've noticed that Rashford has lost pace? I seem to recall a number of instances recently where he's beaten his man one on one from a standstill. But I'll keep an eye out for that. What has been noticeable, especially against Brentford, is that he seems to be playing a different game when he's on the right - more focused on passing, less on take-ons. He did that very well against Brentford, but poorly yesterday. A particular pity as he seemed otherwise to be in rising form. I agree the swings in performance are getting taxing.

Højlund - perhaps he needs a bit more time to hit full stride after his injury layoff, but that was disappointing after Brentford, where he played a very good game even without taking the scoring into account. The problem is that's unusual for him. For the most part he simply doesn't bring very much when he doesn't score.

Penalty decision was mental but let’s be honest - a point or not at West Ham is still woeful.

Yoro and Shaw will transform this team. I can dream.

Defence isn’t our problem this season.
Goals conceded isn’t bad (same as Chelsea and Villa and only one less than Arsenal).
Our biggest issue is not scoring goals and weaknesses and inconsistency in central midfield.
With a more effective front line and a better ability to control midfield, any pressure on our defence would be less, probably resulting in fewer goals conceded.

I hope they'll give us a new dimension that will contribute to offensive output. Shaw is our best FB and Yoro is easily the best athlete we have at CB.

Yes we should have been home and hosed by half time, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Oliver is a daft c*nt. He should be sacked for an inability to do the job he's paid for and Coote should spend a season in the Conference

and people here told me I was being "hysterical" when I criticised Ineos in August for not buying a goal-scorer. This is why, although it was distasteful, I preferred the sheik's bid for the club. We needed/need total disinfection rather than a quick wash at 30F.

Extending ETH's contract mirrored what the other clown's did with Ole. Different faces, same shite show

Long before the pen we'd already collapsed in that second half, can't ignore that.

Why isn`t anyone looking into Oliver? The list of dodgy calls he has made against Man Utd over the last years is just a farce. How many pens for soft holding has he given as a VAR ref after the one he awarded Man City at OT last season?? (or is it two?). And how many pens like the one yesterday will he give in the coming time? And the list just goes on.

People like him are cancer to football. At best he is a narcissist who wants to be centre of attention. At all time.
But the continuous examples of decisons going against Man Utd, its just not a coincidence... Just cant be.

Of course, it does not take away the fact that Man Utd are woeful, but I just can not get my head around why no one is looking into this mess..

Why is it some teams get the right to avoid certain refs, but we have to stik up with Oliver season after season...

Man Utd losing is yesterdays news, we all know that was coming after they did not put away the game in the first half. But the manor in which it was lost, from a shocking decision, I must say yesterdays biggest disappointment was EtH pre match presser. For a manager stating he and the team feels unfairly treated, to stand there talking like a bloody accountant, shocking. How on earth can the players feel that this guy is having their back? The season is already over, but Ineos have to act now anyway. Just put someone in as an interim, it cant be worse than this anyway.

Shithouse Coot and Oliver won't be on ETH s Christmas card list thats for sure..

We had a decent record at The London Stadium until ten Hag took over.

West Ham 0-2 Man Utd - Mourinho
West Ham 0-0 Man Utd - Mourinho
West Ham 3-1 Man Utd - Mourinho
West Ham 2-0 Man Utd - Ole
West Ham 1-3 Man Utd - Ole
West Ham 1-2 Man Utd - Ole
West Ham 1-0 Man Utd - ten Hag
West Ham 2-0 Man Utd - ten Hag
West Ham 2-1 Man Utd - ten Hag

3 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats.
To be fair,

0-2 Mourinho - WHU had a player sent off after 15 minutes
1-3 Ole - was the Pogba goal where the ball went miles out of play and the officials didn't give it
1-2 Ole - penalty save with the last kick of the game when Moyes subbed Noble on to take it.

It's unusual for WHU to get the rub of the green with the officials in these match-ups.

Disagree strongly. The last five minutes of the game he was so bad that it completely erases anything positive he did previously. We had people forward and in the box waiting on a good delivery, and Bruno dithers, cuts back, cuts back again, cuts back again, dithers, and then for some reason elects to attempt a cross with his weaker left foot and he blasts an awful ball out of play. Awful.

in SAF's day, if we didn't score at least six, it was hair-dryer time all the way home :0)

Only watched the highlights but seems like we were really unlucky to lose. Plenty of big chances missed, then their 1st goal was unfortunate and penalty a joke. Things set up for ten Hag to lose his job after this particular game it seems.

Okay, if you want to base the evaluation of a game performance solely on the last five minutes. That doesn't seem very reasonable to me.

Thing is though that even if you take the penalty out of the equation, the xG is basically even. We played well in the first half, but our xG only amounted to about 1.40 - roughly the same as they had in the first 30 minutes of the second half, up to and including their first goal. That probably undervalues Dalots chance (xG 0.38, which seems to me unlikely to reflect the fact the goal was open), but even so, chance creation wasn't tilted in our favor in any big way.
