FA W FA Cup 5th Round

Manchester United 3:1 West Ham United

Post-match discussion

Wed, 01 March 2023

I do think we're getting a bit of luck at the moment. Trying to think if the last really good 90 mins we put in.

But the basics are so much better than last season. No huge individual errors every week. Plenty of confidence. Along with a few players who perform like grown ups.

We're playing every 3 days to be fair and at times it shows. We have still been arguably the best side in the country post World Cup. Were showing something I haven't seen in a long time and I am loving it right now.

In 6 days we've come from behind to beat runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona, beat Newcastle at Wembley to win our first trophy in far to long and then come from behind in a hard fought match against West Ham.

That's pretty impressive

The triple award ceremony before kick off gave the match a testimonial feel. United starting slow was not a surprise.

But 3 more days and we go again! love it!

Absolute shite before the goal. We’re showing a lot of passion but obviously still have issues, mainly with our fringe players.

That first half with Maguire and Lindelof taking all year passing it between them was a nasty throwback. Once again our subs saved the day.

It’s pretty obvious where in the team needs improvement though which is exciting as I have total confidence in ETH to get the right players in those positions.

we have scored two or more goals for the last 12 games! and only lost 1 of them

What is this now, 3 winning goals for Garnacho across 3 competitions? I thought he was clumsy and wasteful but he kept going and got his goal. It feels like his ceiling is really high once he gets it all together.

Brilliant result. Delighted for Garnacho and Weghorst.

Thought we looked quite leggy for the most part and Bruno is not a machine. He needs a rest, but he won't have none.

Surprised we took short corners in the first half when we had plenty of height, not least when we did so with slow tempo as well.

Anyhow, another home draw, who'd have thunk it.

Loved that win, mostly because I thought it might be one game too far with hour shit we were for the last hour.

But nope, we're still alive and one game from being back at Wembley :smirk: (even if the semis being there is a joke)

Each round of the FA cup we’ve played (3 games) have all ended 3-1 to us at home. Next game is at home too…

Previous years we go out tonight no doubt, another test passed in the 'is this just another false dawn'

Weghorst is the opposite of Martial.

Always available. Runs his bollocks off. Chases everything and had a hand in all 3 goals today.

Just needs a goal and the floodgates will open.

Happy with the win but it's worrying how poor we are without Casemiro.

Garnacho was the best player on the pitch.

All we have to do is progress the ball on the right and switch it to him

At the end of this season, I think ETH will win coach of the year award as long as Arsenal don't win the league. XI team of EPL will likely consists on Rashford, Casimero and Varane.

I agree, I dont understand the hate towards him at all. He makes this offense go...

Win against Barcelona (clear top Spanish team)
Win against Newcastle (trophy)
Win against West Ham (2nd Team)

I am living the United dream.

Guys, for the first goal by West ham, was it in or out before the goal? Replays are all from opposite side cameras for some reason.

And wow, Weghorst contributed for the second and third goals? He may have problems scoring, but damn his contributions to the team are still outstanding. It's been many games now. His movement. His pressing. Superb.

You can't tell from the available camera angles and because it's not an obvious error VAR can't overturn it, 1 or 2 player will have gotten a bollocking though because they stopped playing instead of waiting for the whistle

Our winning mentality is just amazing. The subs that came on just had that look that we are going to win this match.

- Garnacho was better than Antony today and that rarely happens. Good for the youngster.
- Sabitzer is a solid, dependable player
- I thought Maguire was pretty good today except for the through ball to Antonio.
- The more I see Malacia the more I like. He is 23 and could be a top LB. He is athletic, quick, and has nice control.
- Everyone played their part and no one was spectacular....and that's okay.
- Rashford need to pick it up, he has not scored in 3 matches.

I hope Sancho was out because of physical illness.
Rashford scored in the Carabao Cup final last week.

Correct until your last sentence. I don't see his floodgates opening. Ever. But he's having the timeout his life.

The best part is that once we went down a goal, the pressure kept mounting. You knew we would score. And once we did, you knew we would score again.
Like the old days.
Players are stepping up, reading the play well, passes are crisp, there is always someone available for a pass.
We are a joy to watch! Phenomenal team spirit!
