PL L FA Premier League

West Ham United 3:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Ridiculous thing is they wont sack him because they want it mathematically impossible to not make top 4 so they dont have to pay him off..but as a club if we dont make top 4 we are going to loose more money than it would cost to sack jose in the long run not being in that competition. Havent enjoyed watching united play football for years now. Thought LVG was bad for Jose is getting there now. :/

I wonder if top players still want to come to us after this season...

We are Man Utd. I have seen Bayern Madrid and Juventus ( 10 times worse even) go through dry spells and bad managers, but they still remained attractive to players regardless. If a player doesn't want to play for utd that is his loss. We are the one of the three biggest clubs in the world, with a fan base bigger than any other club. We make players popular in a way no other clubs do by simply being employees. In addition we also have the financial power to make sure we can afford good players. As long as we have money and we have the brand, we will always be attractive regardless.

Most shocking thing for me was the west ham fans around me calling us just United as if United isn't also their name. They also seemed very concerned with finding Manchester fans in the crowd. One idiot with a little kid got booted because he thought it was smart to wear a Manchester United jacket and get the kid wear a jersey.

Completely numb, in fact I chuckled at all three goals and merely went 'nice one' when Rashford scored.

McTominay as a CB was a purely ridiculous and possibly personally motivated move from Jose - Scott is fecking garbage, I'm sorry. If he was under 6ft, Jose would never be giving him chances, he offers absolutely nothing except height and a bit of a thunderous shot from range. A shite version of Darren Gibson.

Young - put a shift in, couldn't fault his work ethic or commitment.

Smalling and Lindelöf were shite - especially the latter, who I guarantee will be sold immediately by our next manager. Nowhere near up to standard.

Shaw - forgot he was on the pitch but wasn't the worst.

Midfield - ponderous, lumbering, cumbersome, and completely ineffective. Who'd have thought that having 6ft 4in+ midfielders with slow styles of play would make our overall game-play slow and ineffective, eh?

Pogba can leave, I'm done with him. One of the most over-rated prima donnas I've seen in world football. Very good on his day which is 1/10 games.

Martial - see above. Massively over-rated.

Lukaku - is looking like the cart-horse we always knew he COULD be on his worst day...….constantly though, at present, which is worrying.

Garbage. Jose OUT, bring on another summer of 'clearing out the deadwood' under a new manager (SPOILER - The deadwood will still be here next season, no fecker wants them because they're deadwood. Funny that, eh?)

Onto the next massive disappointment and defeat midweek.

All Mourinho wanted was one proper defender - and the biggest club in the world cannot deliver on this simple ask. Mourinho must feel he has to fight the whole Man Utd club before he even starts to take on the Premier League and Champions League. How long will we stand for incompetency in this club before we back a world-class manager who has won trophies everywhere he has been? This club has lost the plot.

That's such an excuse. Yes - he didn't get the defender he wanted. So what, you still have a good squad and you compensate for the weaknesses.

Fergie won PLs with practically no midfield by compensating with other tactical changes. Jose has just lost the plot and is making it a point to show up the CBs. Is there one good reason why McTominnay should play CB ahead of Bailly?

Yes, Bailly had a poor game against Brighton but that is just daft decision making.

Didn't Jose come 2nd last season with the same CBs, getting more than 80 points? The problem is Jose's ego can't get over what he didn't get and he is throwing around his weight now to establish he was always right.

The only explanation I have for today is that Jose set the team up to fail to prove a personal point the narcissistic git. Allowing Pogba and Martial to attack (which most players and fans wanted) but ensuring this could not work by ruining any chance of a supply to them by stacking the midfield with uncreative plodders and leaving out almost all our potentially creative players to link up the play to them. Hobbling the back line by sticking McT in there helped ensure we would also be a total mess at the back and would put us on the back foot. On 70 mins he subbed Martial and Pogba to ensure everyone got the point that they were the main failures today and he had been proved correct as ever. Disgraceful behaviour by our supposed Manager. The guy knows he's going so will spend the rest of his time here settling personal scores and trying to prove he has been the victim somehow. The board most get rid asap whatever the £££ to limit the damage and inevitable recovery time afterwards.

That's why I thought as well. He couldn't care less anymore and the defeats aren't surprising him at all since he gave off the impression that his hands have been tied behind his back after the summer window. He wants to be sacked so the board should put him out of his misery now.

Bad match for us. Wrong formation, poor showing by players, and we seem to be regressing. Very disappointing all round.

Bright spot was Rashford with that touch of class.

Sadly true

I think if it was JUST the set up, in other words becoming too defensive, it becomes debatable that he was making some kind of point. The fact he used McTominay as a central defender, makes it clear that it was calculated.

But what is the point. Having a central defender will not cure the poisonous atmosphere in the dressing room that is driving these players down. And while I am not a fan of Pogba for what he has said, Mourinho is the manager. As the manager you are supposed to motivate your player. Nobody is motivated by him.

He causes extrovert players to be introverted. They are scared to express themselves for fear of being screamed at for not doing something else. Of course, there is a balance to be struck between defence and attack, over what you do when you have the ball and what you do when you don't. Of course. But the balance is all wrong at Old Trafford.

In fact it is beyond that. I want to see a side that is enjoying their football. They are the teams that succeed. We have a bunch of players who are not enjoying their football because of that poisonous environment. You cannot perform in that kind of environment. And, they haven't.

Agree.

The team just didn't play or want to play. Any decent football observer could see the players were strolling about without much commitment. Basically a friendly game type performance. A single footballer cannot dictate the nature or performance of the whole team. Seems the team wasn't playing for Mourinho which is worrying from a fan and clubs perspective.

He dug out Bailly and Jones in midweek but in reality it was another dig at the board. He is making rash decisions based on emotions and in the process lashing out at each of the players one by one. So what if you didn't get the CB you wanted? Again slow, lethargic football but what did we expect with that slow midfield? None of the players he bought this year start the game. He cannot even motivate the ones he trusts the most anymore let alone pogba and martial and those guys.

Generally, opposition teams raise their game against United. West Ham didn't even have to up their game to win this game.

7 matches gone and a 20 goal GD between Utd & City!
The club is badly broken, it needs breaking apart and rebuilding from scratch, with a new manager.
Just compare Mourinho to Pep, black and white. M likes to think he's some kind of enigmatic dude, a wannabe Cantona, which he most certainly isn't!

I'd stop going to the matches if were you lot, they might start getting the message.

Watching the Chelsea v Liverpool match is like chalk and cheese to us atm.
Philosophy of the respective managers, style of play and the quality and attitude of the players is in stark contrast to the shite currently being served up by United.
Desperate times at OT.

Were they really? Have been used to our players strolling around under Mourinho since his first season with us, couldn't see much difference today tbh.

I don’t think anybody “didn’t try” today, but you can see they’re fed up and it isn’t clicking at all. We’ve never looked like a team under Mourinho no matter what players or formation.

Hard to know where United go from here. The relationship between Mourinho and Pogba has broken down and a power struggle is on going. I did say when Mourinho was taken on there would be drama. He just attracts controversy, maybe it's his personality. Aside from the recent, in historic terms, sacking of Moyes and LVG United have traditionally gone about their business in a quiet and efficient manner. So controversy which Utd knew Mourinho would bring is so at odds with the normal running of the club. I am curious as to whether Mourinho consulted with Ferguson when buying Pogba.
Since he took over from LVG I just don't see an evolution in the makeup of the team season on season. To be fair his first two season's were fine. However even with the trophies he has won at OT and finishing second I'm just not sure where how he was rebuilding the side. He has streamlined the squad numbers but that's it. Aside from Shaw and DDG you could make a case for at least nine new players in the starting line up. Never mind the players in the squad. He should have been able to construct a team to be reckoned with in three seasons plus the money he has had to spend.
At this stage I can't see Mourinho lasting the season. Whoever takes over has to sell Pogba. No player can be bigger than the club. Interesting times ahead

We play a lot of defensive players and can't defend. We have no cohesive attacking unit. Players lack fight and determination. We have no style or identity. Something has to give. I have no answers to what the correct move forward is.

Correct, it's just a mess. Championship level at best. Awful .. are these playing at UTD.. richest club in the world?

So we play with extra central midfielders and try to get our fullbacks to provide width. Except only one of them really does that. On top of that, 3 of the 4 central midfielders are in the team to do a defensive job.

We're a mess right now.

The CMs are protecting the CBs because our CBs struggle to defend.

The board have decision to make and fast, this group of players aren't trying hard enough. Only the Mourinho foot soldiers looked like they cared today, it was pathetic.

To everyone blaming Jose and wanting him out ...
Wake up and smell the roses this is the worst United squad in over a decade .

A team of Parasites that don’t care who they play for as long as they get massive wages ...Pogba,Sanchez,Martial , Lukaku

Overrated individuals Rashford , Lingard, matic, shaw

Past there best Mata , Matic,

And were never good enough , young , Valencia, smalling,Jones, Lindelof pretty boy periera .

So go on Give the job to Zidane see what he can do with a squad like this and no Ronaldo,Bale ,Casimero,Isco modric, Varane , or Kroos in the toughest lge in the world

The squad is diabolical and the lunatics are attempting to run the asylum , the worst of which is Pogba the most overrated ( in his own mind ) player I have ever seen

Certainly looked like this, the lineup was just bizarre, but luckily most fans can see through this blatant sabotage though, so a clean slate for everyone when he finally goes would be the only fair thing to do.

Shocking structure of this post aside, you think Derby and West Ham have better players than us then? Our squad is worse than these teams that played us off the park then is that what you are insinuating, that poor little Mourinho has been lumbered with non league level of players even though he bought a load of them himself.

Which caretaker team can I follow so that I enjoy football for the rest of the season? Rivals dont count.

The 1st 5 minutes today were a disgrace.

Sackable offense.

Not even going into how bad the rest of the game was and the subsequent awful result.

I think they can actually do the math here. If it cost us £10m to pay him off and they are convinced we can make CL if we fire him then he will get the boot.

Tbh, West Ham had the better team and the better players.
:nono:

They had a manager who bought like 8 players in the summer, have them play with some cohesion just within 2 months into his reign. But people claim some need time even after 2 seasons.
