PL D FA Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur 2:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I’m starting to get really worried about the mentality of this team.

Why is it so rare that we play well for more than half a game?

Our away form is material for a sitcom.
First half is ok, 2-0 up, Spurs looks devoid of confidence.

Second half, Spurs come fighting a bit and we have no clue what to do.
Players are literally walking around with the ball, and more or less gives away possession whenever a spurs player come close.

How can our players just mentally check out like that? It is incredible.

Casemiro is the slowest midfielder we`ve had since Neil Webb was walking around in there. Can`t even remember what a good Case looked like

Bruno scores that chance and it’s game over! The story of our season, spurn chance after chance and then get punished at the other end.
Mate they had way more chances in that game than we did. We don't create enough, we don't score enough and we capitulate any time the crowd gets a bit noisy or a team presses us a bit.

This team is so fragile it's unbelievable and for all the people who believe this has been some mega season for us are deluded. We won a league cup where we played nobody of note except Newcastle in the final, and since then we have been awful.

We are bang average at best. Half the squad needs getting rid of, it's so stale, lazy and mentally fragile.

God help us if we do make the champions league, it will be painful to watch!

But to be realistic- 12 points really to guarantee top 4. I’m ruling Brighton out purely on their run in. Liverpool can get a maximum of 71. Spurs and Villa can get a maximum of 69. 72 points is the magic number … 12 to go

Needed much better control in that second half. Just do what city do and kill the game. If it means you spend ten minutes aimlessly passing to each other so be it.

A draw isnt the end of the world with regards top four. But we are going nowhere next season with performances like that in the second half.

Bringing on Weghorst, Fred and Malacia is such a depressing sight. Nothing good was going to come out from that.

Frankly we need 3 new midfielders. Burn the midfield to the ground and start from scratch. Ship out Sabitzer, Fred, McT and DVB. All useless.

The main problem is the lack of consistency week to week with almost all of our players. They all seem to have a 8/10 one week and a 3/10 the next, which makes Ten Hag’s job so much more difficult.

The subs killed the game but ultimately we can’t play everyone for 90 minutes. The team is already running on fumes as it is. Our player coming on should be good enough to help see a game out.

I don’t blame ETH for the subs, I blame the players for not being able to maintain the standard.

I don't even think we were that good first half - we gave away so many chances

I agree. I was puzzled at the fact that the commentators were acting like we were steamrolling over Spurs. They had the chances to take the lead and/or equalise a few times.

I think this is the most pissed off I've been at a result this season. Even more so than the numerous trashings we've had. 2-0 up against a Spurs side that got booed off the pitch at half time and the players took their foot off the gas in the second. If that was a tactical approach by ETH to sit back and soak the pressure then he needs to realise that almost never works for us, especially with these players he has.

Special shout out to Fred for having one of his worst performances for us ever. And that says a lot because he has had loads of them.

It's cliche but it was a game of two halves. We should have scored a lot more in the first half, and perhaps one in the second, but they also could have scored a few in the second half. As good as the back four were the other day, they didn't do themselves any favours today...

That's on Ten Hag I'm afraid. Subs completely changed the game and not in a good way.

You bring on Martial and Fred, and you're basically playing with an entirely new system. Why, when it was working so well in the first half?

Felt harsh for Sancho to be taken off and Martial's pathetic performance didn't justify it at all.
Nah this is not on ETH. All his subs made sense. Spurs just wanted it more. They didn't want to look like they've already given up before their own fans I guess.

Imo we're a bit unlucky too. If Bruno scored they probably would have called it a day.

Tottenham aren't a crap side, either. People have fallen too much for the loss against Newcastle; that was well below their level.

I would say that a point was good, to be honest. I think people are forgetting that Tottenham have a good record against big clubs in recent years.
Exactly!! There was always going to be a reaction from them and to play with such pathetic intensity in response of that at the start of the 2nd half. Shocking!

That second half was a complete shower of shit. Played like the game was done and dusted and got exactly what we deserved.

Manager deserves his share of criticism too for weakening us further while Spurs were on the up.

Second game in recent weeks where the bench has completely failed us. Fred looked how I imagine myself would look playing a PL game.

Threw it away. Spurs are an awful team and one we should have dispatched of early doors. Poor mentality letting the lead slip. Substituting Eriksen for Fred changed the whole dynamic.
Having said that, had Bruno buried his chance would have been game over.

A serious team would have scored 4 before Spurs had the chance to score their first.

Having players like Sancho and Antony in your front three means we'll never be a prolific team.

We need two goalscorers this summer desperately.

Boy do we need to upgrade the squad. Can't have Weghorst, Fred as our only real subs.

ETH needs to change too. Can't be bringing ok WW every game and continue to see us struggle. Need some runners and pace too. Pellistri is being wasted.

very disappointing but 2-0 is always a dangerous lead. I don't think we dominated the first half really, we were looking a bit vulnerable even then but I can't fathom how we became so sloppy in the second half as if we were exhausted. It's very frustrating but in the scheme of a season, an away point at Spurs is not the worst result imaginable. I'm trying to take a bigger pic but that second half performance stung.

Again sliced right through the middle of the pitch like there's no one there. Well done to the man seemingly already on holiday - Casemiro. Plays and runs like a 55 years old. Carrick and Scholes will look the same if not better if we brought them back right now.

Tottenham were atrocious and we could've even lost to that lot.

Fecking depressing, we look light years away from a proper football team.

It's disappointing to spill 2-0 lead like that but think defensively some holes showed in 1st half as well and then in 2nd we lost control, I believe to good extent due to fatigue and tiredness, having played 120 minutes 4 days ago. It's not an excuse but it's a team that has been playing every 3/4 days for so long now.

If we won top 4 would've been close to done but it's a point that gets us one point away from Liverpool I guess. And keeps the distance between us and Spurs because if Spurs won tonight, they'd perhaps had a chance for top 4 again as well.

Point at Tottenham with Villa, Brighton and West Ham games coming up. You'd feel every one of those is really important so have to keep it at high level.

Could be a massive 2 points dropped come end of season.

People might scuff at the thought that Liverpool could catch us yet , but this Utd team is very capable of the kind of implosion that could make that happen.

We threw it away by failing to kill of the game yet again BUT!! We were also coming off a 120 minutes on Sunday, which had already seen in form Brighton lose to fecking Forest, so the serious flagging as the second half went on was always on the table.

Some of the panic in here is proper piss baby levels. A point away at Spurs is fine.

Bad mentality, that‘s all there is too it. No will to finish of teams, nonchalant to the core. This has absolutely nothing to do with the schedule, it is purely a bad mentality. We’re throwing away games, even to a Spurs that is in the ropes, ready for the slaughter. The space we gave away is mind boggling.

I’m fed up with our attacking and defending wide players. They gain some yards then stop, look around and pass the ball backwards. They take no initiative.

From the players on the field today only Bruno has the right mentality to play in our shirt

Never learn this bunch of fu*king clowns, could see that coming 5 mins into the second half, with the half arsed approach. Think they're better than they are, bunch of losers

Freds absolute shite, malacia's absolute shite and weghorsts absolute shite...so ten hag brings the 3 of them on, rubbish management.

I genuinely cant stand some of the cnuts in this squad, fred especially, watching him constantly putting his hand up in acknowledgment of yet another mistake is fecking infuriating

People before the game going on about how we'll batter them. It amazes me that after so many years people still don't get this team. These players think they are better than they are and the moment they get comfortable you know it's trouble. The way we started the 2nd half, you could see this coming. Spurs were always gonna come all guns blazing and to start the 2nd half the way they did....

Also, the majority won't wanna hear it but none of ETH's signings have been great this season. There's been periods Casemiro and Eriksen have looked great but equally matches where they are so poor. Major question marks over Antony and Malacia as well. Martinez is the only unquestionable success this season.

I agree his signings are not beyond criticism I think his signings are the least of our problems. I'm happy with the characters he's brought in and given the loser mentality pervading the existing squad I can't think what signings ten Hag could have made last summer that would have had the required transformative effect.

At 2-1 we needed to get a foot on the ball in midfield and get control of the game again.

So naturally we replaced arguably our two best passers in Eriksen and Fernandes in the centre with arguably our two worst passers in Weghors and Fred.

Baffling, and Ten Hag's penchant for shoehorning Weghorst into the team is worrying. It's clearly a move that doesn't work yet he keeps doing it.

Disgraceful second half performance.

Martial is a disgrace.

Bad Fred is basically an opposition player.

Bruno scores that chance and it’s game over! The story of our season, spurn chance after chance and then get punished at the other end.
Rashford also bottled a good chance. I'm surprised that rarely mentioned.

Shambolic doesn't even begin to describe that second half. I know the team is tired, but the start from AWB and Antony was shameful. Eriksen sub was the right call but EtH made the wrong choice, should've been Sabitzer. We got the Mr. Hyde version of Fred today and it meant that once it was 2-2, we wouldn't win.

His fellow Brazilian Casemiro was bad too. He was bypassed way too easily, way too often. Maybe it's because of the red cards but you can't have an experienced player like him fold like that. And I'll never understand DDG still hoofing it when we have no one who can win headers against a pressing Spurs. Serious lack of calmness that someone like Varane or Licha would've provided.

Such a disappointment after that first half. Feels like having a five star meal for the main course followed by a shit sundae for desert. If only Bruno's shot stayed under the bar.

Why we can play at full speed for 90"? It's like two different teams between first half and second half. Fred is so awfull, too many misplaced pass. Wout? .. . We don't have any creativity in 2nd half.

What a weird game. I'm disappointed we dropped two points but i'm still confident of top 4 provided our home form see us through (which it should)

Shaw MOTM.
