Why has literally no one mentioned Mctominay this whole thread?

Very good Full debut, strong, composed and powerful. Great defensive header and dribbling the ball out of defence after winning it and breaking up attacks on multiple occasions. Good movement around the box creating a threat and passing option.

@Raoul this is your fault
He played well.

Go have a look at his performance thread. Apparently he’s an average player that should be happy to end up at Cleverley’s level.

He’s 20yo, let that sink in for a minute.

In control all game.
A few people looked very sharp which makes so much difference. Lingard and Tuanzebe especially. The former making good runs and reaping the benefits, and the latter looking like a defender that’s really in control of the ball. Which makes a nice change.

Decent win tonight, put some of the negatives of last Saturday behind us. We need to go into the Spurs game with a positive attitude and not park the bus.

Good to bounce back quickly, take some confidence to Spurs game and keep challenging City for it, that's the hope.

Swansea were never in this. The under investment that has gone into this club is staggering, Routledge and Rangel who both played today should have been replaced 3 years ago. Mesa was underwhelming, looked tidy on the ball but defensively very poor, can see why he has had limited opportunities. McBurnie worked hard but do not think he has the quality to lead the line against a team like United.

The atmosphere was awful, the fans did not even get angry, just seemed apathetic. Terrible night.

Yeah the change in that club is night and day from when they were first promoted.

McTominay looked very decent. Put himself about instead of sitting on the halfway line. Lindelof has no business anywhere near the first team until he sorts out his issues. Needs to be dropped to the under 23's for some experience.

I mentioned him you willy!

Enjoy the win. Good to have a competition where the youngsters get a chance to play. Not the same level of competition as the EPL so I will be hesitant to say that we have shaken off the Huddersfield defeat. A win against Tottenham will be cruicial. I will even settle for a point if you give it to me now.

Lingard's haters is lurking in the shadow this time.....waiting, eyeing for the right moment to strike back in vengeance.

How many clear cut chances did we create? Did everyone think that Martial and Rashford combined well together up front? Considering this was a second string Swansea team, should we take anything away from the result? Were we lacking in any department?

Scott Tominay was a highlight for me. Axel did well too. Still not sure if Axel is ready to start as a second CB especially against tougher opposition. Scott should be given a run of games until Pogba comes back.

I'm honestly not that bothered about this competition having won it last season but I'm always glad to see us go through and this helps to put us in a more positive frame of mind before the Spurs game. A lot of key players got rest (though IMO bringing Lukaku and Matic into the game for 20 minutes was needless) and we saw some encouraging play from McTominay and Tuanzebe.

Some nice work by the front 3 of Martial, Rashford, and Lingard. Lingard probably had his best game in the first team for us. I always felt we have the long-term potential for a really effective, free-playing 3 rather than using a lone striker like Lukaku or Ibra who can too easily get snuffed out of the game. Allowing Martial and/or Rashford to switch sides and giving Lingard a free role kept Swansea guessing, it's something that having one man up top can't provide.

Herrera and McTominay worked well together in MF. I thought Herrera was much more positive with his ball movement. He has the ability to play an effective ball forward but he's been in a more defensive role since last season and has looked too similar to Matic when played together. Because of the opposition tonight he showed more ambition and got the move started on our first goal. McTominay was efficient - nothing brilliant, just steady as Herrera's support, did nothing wrong.

I won't lie, I am really concerned about our defence. Swansea hardly ever got into our box but our backline seemed to unravel every time they managed to do that. It seemed that we weren't marking properly, no one was able to clear balls with any authority (Blind's header off a Swansea player that nearly resulted in a goal comes to mind), and we looked very susceptible to movers like Ayew.

I know that the defensive setup had players who hadn't been together much this season but we didn't look organized that well. I think Smalling, Darmian, and Tuanzebe had good moments as individuals. Lindelof, though, was again terrible and looked like he doesn't belong anywhere near the first team. If I have to watch him against Spurs, I'll need to be carried from my television set. Blind, meanwhile, was not bad per se but he clearly struggles in the wingback role against PL teams.

On another note, Sky Sports needs to quit using poses when display the starting lineup. I was laughing at our squad when they showed half of them looking gangsta and felt terrible in doing it. Tonight's performance gets a 6 out of 10.

Lukaku and Matic came on for Rashford and Herrera, who will presumably be starting against Spurs. Rashford looked like he had a knock too. It was a good decision to sub them off.

Awesome from Romero … if DdG does go to Real this summer he'll be a shoe-in. If Dave doesn't go then I cannot see Romero staying another year :(
Some people just love to be negative.

Romero has chosen to stay at United in a world cup year, knowing fully well that De Gea would get most action. He's already said that he loves it here.

Just enjoy the win.

Games like this, where the opposition shows no ambition or real desire, wish we'd do the opposite but, it's almost like because Swansea were okay playing at a snail's pace, so were we. If we had tried to move the ball a bit faster, with as apathetic as they were we'd have fashioned more chances.

Glad for the win and no fresh injury concerns.

My thoughts exactly. He's a poor man' Fellaini.

I didn't think it was that negative actually … the clues are in the words "awesome" and "shoe-in".

Certainly wasn't negative enough to warrant pointing it out 7 hours later … now THAT IS negative

No. People on here just love a good moan over nothing. It's a whine-a-thon at times.

The only reason I noticed it was because that's where the the site pointed me to when I reopened this thread.

Happy the youngsters got to play, I just think Shaw could've come on much sooner. It was clear that many haven't played much this season but as the game progressed looked a lot better. I like the 3-5-2 formation but the defence seems to be a lot more shaky playing this formation, often getting in each others way but that sorted itself out as the game went on. Solid performance didn't have to break a sweat. Was very glad to see a shot of Lingards between the poles and scoring twice unbelievable. The only negative of the evening was Lindelof, his confidence is shot and I think it will take a while before he starts performing the way he should. I know that Swansea wasn't a real test last night but thought Darmian played well and look a lot better on the right than he does on the left. All in all a good night and now up to the next game.

just read 7 of the starting team were under 23 - Jose doesn't play youngsters.

Gotta love those Herrera killer passes. Takes a millisecond for him to see it and boom the space has been attacked.
Tuanzebe and McTominay started a bit shaky and stayed in the shadows a bit but grew in the game. Happy for them.
The only negative was Lindelöf I guess.

In footballing terms I wouldn’t really class 23 as a youngster. How many were Under 20? 2. It’s not bad let’s just not make out it’s something it isn’t.
