We didn't deserve to lose but god our attacking play is shocking at times. Our only idea seems to be aim at Fellaini, vary the crosses up a bit. Also we really should start playing Rafael again. I don't care if it will only be for a couple of games until he inevitably gets injured or that he's going to be gone in the summer, we need all the attacking threat we can get especially when we don't play with wingers and the full backs are the ones who have to provide width.

Such a weird game where I'm probably left angrier than I have been despite playing much better than recent games where I was less annoyed.

They allowed us so much time on the ball, I don't think we'd enjoy that against any other team until the end of the season.

A better team would've won today without much problems.

can't believe we lost that. Unbelievable.

Worst thing is, because our top 4 aim is so meagre, it doesn't hurt like defeats in other years did

The amount of floated balls into Fabianski's hands either from corners, free-kicks or in open play was criminal.

Shame that until they scored the deflection, we were totally in control and dominant (Young helped change the game for a bit too). Completely lacking in bite though.

Ultimately Swansea found it pretty easy to score a couple whilst we had to scrap and struggle just to get a shot off.

I am fuming. I can't believe we've just lost that. We were winning at one point and then our team just gives up!...

What the feck is going on? We didn't produce one chance in the whole second half and looked like a shambles after they unsurprisingly scored their second goal. Van Gaal doesn't even ever get up off his bloody seat once! Not once does he walk UP to the touchline and tell them to pull their fingers out their asses! Young for Shaw? Really??????? Fellaini still on after proving useless? When the feck has Mata ever produced the goods coming off the bench? How the hell are those waste men earning a wage from us? I would KILL for this club on the pitch and they're not showing a single ounce of a feck out there. I hate them right now. I hate absolutely every single one of those players and especially that gormless-looking 'coach', so called. Disgraceful day out, but I'm not surprised.

And people on here bitching about fan negativity, are you watching the same games as us? If you could rub two brain cells together, you would see we are not getting top four. No chance. Make the distinction between us and the other teams. The other THREE teams will all have to collectively feck up for us to make Champions League.

One of those shite days. Swansea did nothing yet created decent opportunities thanks to our poor defence. Don't capitalize on control and you pay through jammy goals.

Good performance from the players (mostly) ruined by unbelievably stupid tactics...am I allowed to call Van Gaal an idiot yet? How long does he have to carry on acting like one before people will accept it might not be some kind of pointless act?

Also, getting pretty sick of our first substitution in most games being wasted rectifying a very obvious mistake with the starting line up. It's embarassing how often this has happened this season.

Disappointing result, and honestly I felt we didn't deserve to lose that game. We played some nice stuff in the first half, particularly for the first goal. And then had full control of the game to be hit totally against the run of play. What is disappointing is our reaction after that. Before that you felt that it was just a matter of time before we finally get a second goal. Yet instead of accepting we conceded and getting right back to how we were previously playing and getting that goal, we instead start lumping the ball about, something that really is only effective on the counter, not against packed organised defenses. After that point, you just got that feeling that we were never going to score, and we created very little chances.

Ignoring the result, I liked the look of this team for the most part. Balance wise it feels better than having Rooney in CM and trying to plug Falcao and RVP into the one team. So hopefully we stick with it next game despite the result. Though I would play Mata instead of RVP, with Rooney leading the line. Would be nice to see Rafael back aswell.

That's odd. Subbing Shaw was questionable IMO. And RvP obviously.

We played some good football today (at times).

The subbing, no inspiration, lack of any progress in overall.

Such a frustrating result, probably one of the most frustrating of the season because it was smash and grab in the second half. No way they fecking deserved that, we were all over them until that poxy deflected goal. Poor by the players to just mentally cave in after that goal.

Van Perise had a shocker out there today, should have come off early in the second half for Mata. Taking off Di Maria while chasing a goal was strange IMO, people have said he was poor but he could have at least taking the ball and driven forward. Young probably looked our best player when he came on.

People insulting Van Gaal should get a life. Without him we would have been further down the table.

We have a lot of deadwood in the team yet and if last window was any indication he wants to clean the team up for good.

It says it all really the fact that in spite of having players of the calibre of Rooney and Di Maria he thinks our best chance to score is to lump it forward to Fellaini.

Di Maria spent the entire game trying to give Fabianski catching practise.

Maybe, just maybe Fellaini should have tried attacking them crosses rather than staying out wide.
On another day, if somebody attacked them crosses, people would be saying what a good cross etc.

Rooney, RvP and Fellaini, and nobody was near the keeper for any of them crosses

I for one have had enough for some time now, we are boring as feck and with no passion at all.. His blind spot towards Rvp is baffling and his stubborn attitude towards his philosophy is just to much.. He is killing my love for football. If we are renting a plane and a banner count me in..

Sickening to lose this game. With teams below us putting pressure on, a defeat was the last thing we needed. We didn't play that bad and there were some decent performances in the team. Ultimately we fell into that timely trap of having a lot of the ball but not doing enough with it and I think that was partly down to how well Swansea defended. But then again neither team created much in the second half but they got the deflection while the ball didn't fall for us when we needed it.

I felt Rooney and Herrera played well today while Di Maria had a better game. Ashley Young played well when he came on, but it just didn't happen for us. I expected better defending for both goals, especially the second as someone should have closed Shelvey down, so Jones and Rojo have to take the brunt here. Smalling should have started this game.

With the poor performances recently, we maybe had this one coming but we MUST not let this become the start of a poor run of results. The fact that we could fall out of the top 4 by the end of the weekend just shows how tight it is still. That late March/early April run is looking more daunting by the week!!

The only positive I see come out of this game is Herrera, my MOTM but going on LVG's philosophy he will be dropped next game and Rooney will be in defence!!!

That was a must win.

Actually a reasonable performance, beside giving some big chances away early on.

We cant expect to win games with 3 shots on target however.

RVP was poor

We were dominant in that 2nd half but got hit by a deflected Shelvey sucker punch, which is all he's good for. If we don't force the issue and work their keeper this is what can happen. So many corners but we're useless at them, might as well have just kicked each one out of play and given them a goalkick. Van Gaal got his subs wrong, not a good day for him.

This has frustrated me aswell all season. We do absolutley nothing with out corners ! We had like 9 or 10 today and not even one came close to a chance for a goal. Set pieces are so damn important in the modern game and we are useless at them ! Wing play is so damn important in the modern game and we don't play with actual wingers and the ones that play on flanks lack the qualities you'd expect from good wingers. Finishing your chances is so important in the modern game and our forwards are probably among the worst in the world the this respect this season. Tempo is so important in the modern game and we are slow as feck !

Really hate our team atm

As a single entity, that game was ok. It was a poor result that on any other day would have been a clear win for United. We dominated for huge spells and should have had many goals against what was a bang average opposition. That we haven't is entirely the fault of the players. Fellaini & van Persie in particular ghosted 70 minutes of that game with no input. McNair and Shaw went forwards and did nothing. Rooney got worse as the game went on after a bright opening 30 minutes. Di Maria sparked but failed to ignite.

As a moment in the season, we're in trouble now. That's entirely the fault of the manager. 6 points pi$$ed in the wind to Swansea is entirely unacceptable no matter who the manager of Manchester United is. At a time when we have a had a decent run of games and should be clear of our rivals by a large cushion of points ahead of playing them shortly, we are not. Points dropped against Swansea x2, Leicester, Southampton, West Brom, Villa, Spurs, Stoke and West Ham is not acceptable and the cumulation of not picking them up has left us in danger. We now need big results in big games. We should have been comfortable enough to want them, but not need them.

We're on the ropes. It's time the players picked their minerals back up and played like they should. It's time for a captain to lead and inspire. It's time for the manager to have his back to the wall and kick on with a formation that gets goals and wins matches. Safety first option is looking like it's missing the target.

Unlucky but we have been lucky in a number of games ourselves so can't complain. Being fourth flatters us let alone third, the simple fact is the players and the manager just aren't and haven't been good enough, the squad is a shambles and huge changes are required in every department. The only area of the team that doesn't need change is the goalkeeper and he might leave through choice.

I don't think we will make the top four but we are still in the race, we have to start winning these kind of games though and are going to need results in virtually all the big games.

Gutted, it was a key game and it's very likely we will miss these points. Still a similar performance will win us a game 8 times out of 10 if we can work on finishing, hopefully this won't make van Gaal give up on this midfield.

We were bad, very bad but we've been bad for a while now although results can mislead you.

These games are must win games. We didn't deserve to win today, but perhaps didn't deserve to lose either. I now feel that our hopes of Champions League football next season are nearly gone. If we do manage to somehow scrape 4th place (which I'm 90% sure we won't), it probably won't be enough with how strong the likes of Everton/Spurs/Liverpool are in the Europa League.

I tell you, that would be salt in the wounds wouldn't it... Liverpool taking our Champions league place despite coming 4th. I find the performances lacklustre and there is a serious lack of determination, commitment and character being shown throughout the team this season and we're going to really need to improve over the remaining fixtures. If I've learned anything over the years supporting United, it would be very silly to rule us out entirely of course.

It was a problem, we couldn't play it. There is nothing we can do right now that will completely "solve" everything. We just have to make the best of what we have, which wasn't happening over the past couple of months. Rooney and Herrera on the field in their best positions is a start.

3-5-2 wasn't any worse than the diamond especially when we had Young as LWB. The results and not performances are key.

And that's kind of the point, nothing we can do will lead us to consistent wins yet many on here were convinced Herrera in midfield and Rooney up top in the diamond would do that.

I said back then our problems are more than the shape or players out of position however most posters will forget that and now have a different shape in mind with a different combination of players, the same thing happened last season.

Did he realy say that??
Sorry, no he didn't. I was more pointing at the fact, it seems what he cares about the most. As long as we have most possession, it seems he then feels we are the better team, yet, most of our possession happens between the two CBs and keeper every week

That was a good second half all things considered and we deserved something from it. RVP was thoroughly disappointing.

Young is looking very lively. I say give him a run of games on either flank.

Playing two up top is fine in a 4-4-2 since when played properly it's basically a support striker dropping deeper and the other looking to make runs in behind.

With the diamond if that happens then the striker gets in the way of the 10, it's usually better with more dynamic strikers who can roam wide.

Our problem is that too often the strikers are just standing together up top, there is no dynamic movement from them.

Exactly but we don't have strikers like that so we need to revert back to having wingers with one up top. Not saying it will fix all our problems but it's surely worth a go at this stage, especially since Young and Janujaz have at least looked like they give a shit recently.

Also I die inside thinking we have Mata on the bench but we continually use Fellaini who offers nothing defensively and has no creativity at all either. Honestly at this stage Mata would defend better from the front than Fellaini does.

Maybe, just maybe Fellaini should have tried attacking them crosses rather than staying out wide.

Rooney, RvP and Fellaini, and nobody was near the keeper for any of them crosses

Whenever a player went near the keeper the ref gave a foul, wether it was or wasn't. The keepers are protected by refs when it comes to contact from an outfield player, but they're able to plough through players to make a punch and a foul will never be given.

Anyways, Di Maria's crossing was shocking and was too near the keeper, I'd love to see a stat to see how many went straight into Fabianski's hands.

Really good comment this.

Strangely, it's not as frustrating as it should be to me. Kinda half expected this kinda performance and results. Still annoyed but it's nothing new really.

With all the possession it yielded nothing, our players seem inclined not to take a shot on goal. Should have played Falcao as opposed to RVP a, all in all, we got what we deserved - NOTHING - disappointing and now we are hoping that Liverpool beat southhampton.

This season....I've enjoyed Herrera and De Gea. Thats it

Madrid pulled are trousers down with Di Maria
Certainly seems that way, at times I forgot he was playing (until he passed it to the opposition keeper)

The subbing, no inspiration, lack of any progress in overall.
Subs were weird, putting Valencia, Young and Mata is fine, just not sure why we subbed Shaw who looked good and how on earth did RvP stay on the pitch I don't know. His substitutions were much, much worse this season though.

If anything, I think this was a first game when I saw some progress for a long time.

We deserved to win this so I don’t think it was that bad.
