Don't spoil this thread with negativity. Fair play to LVG.

Not spoiling the thread at all. Have already said they played really well. Just not getting carried away just yet with the usual van Gaal hot and cold love him/hate him rubbish!

I missed the game live but now that I'm reading these posts I'm buzzing at the prospect of checking out the game in a couple of hours!

who said they love LVG?

I've seen plenty of them recently. They got a lot of hype because they beat us and City in December but have also had some very poor results as well. Shawcross makes a massive difference to them.

Yeah, they're pretty hot and cold, lots of hype but I've seen as many shite performances from them as decent ones this season.

It was a very good performance, it is what you expect when we play at home, started a bit slow but once we got attacking we did'nt stop, even at 3-0, Martial was just immense, great to see CBJ and Jesse combine for a goal made out of the academy, that is sort of thing you want to see as progress, not necessarily winning trophies but progessing and blooding youth players, why it only happened tonight I don't know, it was completely unexpected for the players to look so committed, that commitment was there throughout and that is why it was 3-0.

Great performance and one I didn't expect.

Rooney, Mata, Martial & CBJ were very good.
Most other players played well too. I criticised Fellaini a lot pre-match but he played well.

Darmian's best game for a long while.

I liked our game plan. We scrapped that possession nonsense and we attacked potently and effectively. We looked like a confident side again + we defended well.

Hopefully we can take this into the Chelsea game. Sit back and counter and I think we can get something out of it.

The one game where we don't dominate possession (47%), we hammer Stoke.

In games where our opponent has dominated the possession, which has happened on five occasions in the league, we've actually tended to do quite well (United 3-0 Stoke, Liverpool 0-1 United, Newcastle 3-3 United, Everton 0-3 United, United 1-0 Spurs).

Allright mate, I take it back then! Peace

Yeah I thought Smalling was amazing tonight. Crouch didn't get a sniff, also Fellaini...

A very satisfying result. I'm just finished watching some highlights online and the goals were very nice. More importantly, we actually attached with freedom. I'll definitely enjoy that while it lasts. Hopefully a corner has been turned now but it's too early to say. That game can only be good for the confidence though.

Damn work, missed probably our best performance of the season.

Visual representation of tonight

This is hilarious! Lol

I did enjoy MOTD, shame I couldn't see the whole game, we looked brilliant again. Amazing how it can come together like this when at times we look devoid of anything slick. I think Rooney's sharpness, the direct passing of Carrick and the confidence of Martial are all key factors.

Hope we can keep up the good form!

Maybe there is hope in LVG yet. At the end of the day managers can't get it right every time. Sometimes you need to reinvent and try again and maybe that is what we are starting to see.

Shocking that this wasn't higher up the running order of Match Of The Day tonight. Enjoyed what I saw of the match, I just hope this carries on and we go on a run.

Of course the one time we play a league match while I'm at work we end up scoring three and winning.

Great result, more of that please. :D

First game I've enjoyed this season at Old Trafford.

Width
No sideways or backward passing
No possession football
Quick and incisive passing
Rooney and Martial were given the freedom of the pitch
Mata was superb in the middle - Yes middle!
Lef-back and right-back playing in their respective positions
Carrick
Players actually looked to enjoy playing

Very good performance and result. Bad for LVG haters though.
Childish post.

No one actually hates the person (LvG). Fans are disillusioned with the style which has been served. If he gets them playing in a similar manner, I'm not sure anyone would complain.

Noticed this too. I've heard many coaches say over the years the best way to score goals, even more so in modern football, is to hit teams in the space that arises 'on the break'. Mourinho might be is an example of someone who has perfected that strategy, but basically you notice this pattern in almost every football game on every level.

Let's just hope our beloved coach will put the emphasis on hitting teams on the break as much as possible because tonight was awesome.

The key to our improvement.

Not sure if the players just ignored LVG tonight and did their own thing but we looked a different team.

Martial's goal was the best team goal we've scored in years, the quick break from the back, Rooney and Mata with one touch give and go, cross field ball and that finish, superb.

Hopefully LVG can see what happens when we don't do the pedestrian, safety first passing that let's opposition defences get organised and set up deep like he's always blaming our shite performances on.

I'm surprised that of all people, you bit.

I stand by my opinion that there are quite a few who blame LVG personally for our bad performances. I have a few mates who think he is stupid and was lucky with his past successes.

How do you think he won all those trophies? With Ajax, Barcelona, AZ, Bayern and a bronze world cup medal with a Netherlands side that was expected to get knocked out in the group?

The difference is that the players did as he wanted, as he claims they have shown him in training and so they actually looked like how a Louis van Gaal team should look.

I also think he is responsible for the teams bad performances over the last 18 Months. He's very fortunate to still be in the job judging from what we've seen over his tenure.

 Can't believe people still think that players are ignoring LVG

You don't become a great or bad manager over one performance. We've been served some of the worst football in the Premiership for a long time. This result does not erase that fact. We need consistency over an extended period for there to be a change in judgement.

Old Louis seems to become overly cautious after shock results...the one to Leicester last season being a prime example, and then reverts to boring possession football hoping to Nick a result based on the quality of his players.

Unfortunately, teams will just park the bus and we don't have anyone who can slalom through that with the ball. We over commit, get hit on the break and drop points or come up with a bore draw.

Let's hope we approach the rest of this season with the same intent that was shown today.

To be honest I've read a lot of derogatory comments directed his way. Even some posters who claim even if he did win the title with us, they wouldn't enjoy it because it wouldn't be deserved.

I find it insane, it has been an experience reading this forum as of late, in my opinion anybody who respects the game of football respects the players and the managers too because without them there is no game.

Always argued it is more about player confidence. Martial is going through some purple patch, may it continue, Rooney is considerably better than he was during the first half of the season, Mata has been better, carrick has done what he usually does this time of year.

Players now have confidence in giving Martial the ball and they run to help him, rather than stand off. Think it helps we have had a fairly consistent back 4 recently too.

That's true.

The Premiership would be mocked if this team somehow fluked Premiership.

Old Louis in his second season at Barcelona started poor, for example he lost four league matches in a row, this season he managed only to lose three with us. He still managed to win La Liga that season, putting points on the board when he needed too.

For whatever reason his teams will have a poor starting period followed by an excellent run, he is the sort of manager who will be awful and then randomly go on a run that breaks the record for consecutive wins or something.

It's as if he uses competitive matches to train the players, only trying to win points in the last 20 minutes, and then around January he wants to actually put points on the board. He probably doesn't do this but I wouldn't be surprised, he seems to rate himself as a teacher and enjoys that aspect of the job, always referring to himself as a 'trainer-coach'.

It wouldn't be a fluke, for us to win it we would need to play some amazing stuff when it truly matters. Hit peak performance at the right time. Players like Rooney going on an insane run, he already has 7 in 7.

Sweet dreams, buddy.

Much better from the shirts, but Stoke looked nothing like the team that turned us over at their place. CBJ was my MOTM. Played very well against Walters who can be a handful for experienced defenders. He made some good runs down the left and he can cross a ball. Hopefully, this win won't be a flash-in-the-pan and we don't revert to negativity against the Chavs.
