Oh come on, the first red card was a joke and not even for a tackle, and this one was unlucky.

If anything we should be more annoyed by the suspension he picked up for the Arsenal game, these two red cards have been very harsh and incorrect in my opinion.
Yeah. I thought he was very unlucky last time to be picked out of a general melee, it was arguably a red if it happened in isolation but in that scrum it wasn’t fair and reasonable to single him out.

Today he tackled in a way that can be dangerous. If he does that and doesn’t contact the player then he might even get a Yellow then. If he does that and misses the ball and gets only the player it’s an obvious Red. Today it was in between, a bit dangerous but a bit unlucky; they could have left it as Yellow but no real complaints from me.

We’re going to miss him badly but he needs to re-focus and come back at his best.

Not a red and should have been given a penalty and bet had it been the other way round it would have been given but our passing was all too sloppy even when we had 11 men on the pitch with casimero being one of the main culprits and with rashford now out of his purple patch of form we are struggling in front of goal again, it will be crazy if we finish third this season when we have had to rely on crock martial, the hopeless weghorst and over the hill ronaldo for our striker options

Everton had a goal chalked off yesterday for a far less obvious use of the arm.

exactly. it’s the second time in two games a bicep corral was allowed against us. I just don’t get it. He clearly want “trying to protect himself from falling”…and it actually looked rather deliberate to me. Just insanity.

Everything about that performance was pathetic. We started the game at snails pace, sloppy passing, too many stupid flicks. The red card then came, its a red but VAR should not be getting involved so should have stayed as a yellow. Second half Southampton came at us, dominated the first 10 or 15. We couldn't handle it, lost energy and looked tired. Our players are obsessed with trying to do individual moments instead of looking the right pass. Subs came too late, Sancho was god awful, Antony just poor. Fred should have come on a lot sooner to give some energy. The team didn't respond. I just do not understand why Hag plays the same team over and over, they are jaded. Either way, still third, need keep going, we have to get top 4.

Rashford should have finished those chances. This game has once again proved that we need a profilic striker.

Yes we do, Rashford is not a striker, he is a wide forward. His production from there is great. He does not have an all out strikers instincts which is why we are looking for a CF.

I really do wish they’d make referees do post match interviews. I would love to hear the referees thought process on not giving us a penalty today. And why he thought to only add 1 minute at the end of the first half, despite the game being stopped for about 5 minutes for the red card alone. They are paid to do a job and he didn’t do that today, I assume he’ll be in trouble with his superiors.

Why did the manager start with that midfield? And Sancho stayed on too long.

Two straight league games without a goal

Not sure which was worse today, dropping 2 points or having to listen to that insufferable, childish "commentator" on BBC Radio Solent
Was desperate for us to get a last minute winner for his reaction. I get that a commentator on a local radio station is going to have some bias in favour of that team but he was horrendous.

Numerous comments about the United fans like 'being from London' and 'tourists who don't know what a foul is'. Non-stop whinging about Bruno, outright saying 'I don't like Antony, never have' and then imitating a child's voice pretending to be him begging the ref for a card. Whilst Garnacho's getting treatment he suggests it's a plan from Ten Hag to 'give the 10 men a breather' :wenger: Completely unprofessional.

So much sloppiness and so many bad decisions today. This was so unnecessary, Soton are fecking terrible.

Oh, and Taylor and Marriner are cnuts.

Didnt know it took one game for a Rashford to be out of purple patch?

Dan Burn just made the exact same tackle that Casemiro did and caught the player with the follow through the same way, and didn’t even give away a free kick. Of course pundits said it was just a natural follow through, but not when Cas does it?

It’s the inconsistency that is infuriating.

Happy enough to have gained a point on Liverpool for the weekend, but the refs were shite.
Hope we can hold onto 3rd now with all the injuries and fatigue.

Neutral view here. Thought Manchester United were quite poor and several of your key players looked off the pace today (Fernandes, Rashford, Casemiro, Antony). I think the sheer number of matches played is catching up, and forced rotation isn’t perhaps the worst thing in the world to happen.

As a Brighton fan I was supporting your team in this game, not a big Southampton fan!

I thought the handball should’ve been a penalty. Clear cut and very poor decision. I thought the red card could have gone either way, however having given a yellow it wasn’t enough for VAR to get involved. The tackle was nowhere near as bad as Fabinho or Robertson’s against us when we thrashed Liverpool, and they weren’t even referred. Zero consistency. He was having a poor game mind you, but it definitely changed the balance of the game.

Rashford’s was never a penalty I’m afraid, he was looking to dive. Astonished he didn’t score given his form lately, it summed up the performance - a bit off the pace. Walker-Peters’ tackle on Garnacho was hard but fair. Cleanly got the ball. Good luck to the lad in his recovery - these things happen. Laughable suggestions from some about that incident - but I understand the blood is pumping post game!

Good luck for the rest of the season!

THIS

It is a fecking lottery at the moment of what is and what isn't a foul.

The red card was a direct result of this. We kept having to defend and defend...something stupid like this can happen anytime.

I know but I wonder why Barca got away with this in their big days. They played Iniesta and Xavi yet they dominated each opponent both home and away.
I was happy to see both Sancho and Bruno initially in midfield but it clearly didn't work

We’ve been absolutely had by the referee here. A few contentious decisions, but none in our favour. I almost feel like the fact he’s from Wythenshawe means he has to screw us in order to appear unbiased.

Ultimately though, we look shattered. Feel like I’ve never said this before but bring on the international break. By that time we will have booked a European quarter final and hopefully another trip and semi final at Wembley, it isn’t all bad. Top 3 firmly in our grasp.

Letting Liverpool off the hook today makes me fairly mad but we did everything we could to win the game and were ultimately done by an incompetent clown of a ref and VAR not doing its duty.

Didnt see the match but would have to say its a point gained given the sending off.

I felt it was a yellow as well the tackle.
Didn't see the match but you think it's a yellow????

To be quite honest when it comes to handball now I'm lost as to what is and isn't hand ball.

That's clear as day handball today & you see it given in plenty of other games

It's not that long ago that any handball by any outfield player had to be deliberate rather than accidental.
It can now be handball even if it's accidental but it's different rules for defenders, attackers and actual goal scorers and assisters.
Talk about being overly complicated!

Utter nonsense. Walker Peters challenge won the ball totally fairly.
It's breathtaking bias to think anything else.

Casemiro wasn't in control, he'd gone in high, but was unfortunate he pinged off the ball onto their man's shin.

It's ironic that you claim "breathtaking bias" only to immediately contradict yourself.

Walker-Peters was also out of control, because if he wasn't then the scissor tackle was intentional. Either way its a red by the very same logic that Casemiro's was, winning the ball dangerously means you go.

Before the game, anything other than a win would have been a bad result. Given the fact that we played over 60 minutes with a man less then I think it has to be seen as a good result imo. Not a great result but a good result. We showed great determination which shows that the Liverpool result was a one off.

Contrary, to some opinion, I actually thought the work rate of the post red card was very good. I said during the in play thread, that our concentration had to good, which it was, and we had to be ready to attack at the right time, which we did.

I thought Anthony did well in the second half with tracking back and remember he went on attack and one of the few times in his short United career he looked up and switched the play Shaw and with a better touch, Shaw could have got shot off.

On Sancho's side there was not enough play developing on that left for us to make any consistent attacks. Walker Peters nullified that side and it seemed we more comfortable building attacks on the right.

However, I think without that challenge on Garnacho we may have created another chance to win it as we were starting to build momentum from 84 minutes o.

That tackle broke up the play and halted our momentum.

Martinez was exceptional. He took responsibility from 34 minutes on till the end on the match. He can turn either way and play out with both feet.

The benefits of a defender like him is 2 fold. Whilst he calms his fellow team mates, he is demoralising the oppositions attackers, as they they they getting an opportunity at goal but he extinguish their threat.

It got to a point in the match ( just prior to Garnacho's injury) where Southampton settled for the 0-0 and it was us who may have created those last gasp one or two chances.

We are going to have regroup after these 2 cup ties and international break and start tidying up our league form.

Start, getting players back, Sabitzer needs to get some minutes, Martial may be back and Erikson will enventually be close to getting back.

I am really hoping as everyone that Garnacho is not bad.

Yeah! Call that fecker out, Erik!

Anthony Taylor and Andre Marriner are the type of fecks who deserve to get teabagged in every single game they officiate simply because they are grossly incompetent.

What I hate a number of times about this league is how the refs sem to help relegation fodder at this time of the year. And for what? To build needless interest in the relegation battle? To hell with that. If teams at the bottom suck, let them suck.

Rashford’s was never a penalty I’m afraid, he was looking to dive.
Watch that again and you'd see the keeper did tackle his leg. With the speed he was going of course he gonna fail. No way it's a dive.

For me it's not the red card or the hand ball. Both I can live with. But this I simply can't understand. Regardless of he's going to score or not the ball was still in play, the keeper did tackle him inside the penalty area. How the feck that was not a pen? Where was VAR? I've seen so many exact same situations where pens were given.

4th spot plus 2/3 cups will be a successful season. We're running out of steam for the league and it's a bit of a worry tbh.
