Utter nonsense. Walker Peters challenge won the ball totally fairly.
It's breathtaking bias to think anything else.

Casemiro wasn't in control, he'd gone in high, but was unfortunate he pinged off the ball onto their man's shin.
If Walker Peters was in control, he must have injured Garnacho intentionally

I really don’t get the handball rules. Seemed a clear handball this game in the box and right before the Betis goal last week. If you can use your bicep to coral a ball and that’s not a handball…but someone kicks a ball into your forearms without any intention to stop it and that is…I have no idea why there is even a handball rule frankly.

Couple that with a harsh red IMHO…I get a high challenge on a player but when your foot rolls off the ball I don’t get giving out a red. That’s essentially a red card to physics.

I guess I’m just totally lost on how these decisions are made, but it doesn’t feel like football…

Walker-Peters' challenge actually resulted in an injury because of the follow through.

To be clear, I don't think Walker-Peters' was anything close to a red card. I just think it's absolutely insane that Case was sent off; the tackle was nowhere near bad enough to warrant a red.

You could freeze frame loads of slide tackles to make them look dangerous, and if they start enforcing this standard consistently then you will see tons of red cards.

Kudos to the lads for being brave and trying to still win the game. ETH was courageous too - loved the sub in throwing in our 2 young wingers.

Licha was fecking sublime again even when under so much pressure. He just makes defending look so easy when it isn't. Fecking top notch.

Bruno was v wasteful in possession the entire game.

Ref was dogshite. How could that not be a penalty.

I want Southampton binned together with Leeds scum. But please keep Bournemouth in the EPL.

We shouldn't have started with sancho. It meant only Bruno and casemiro in the centre.

The title is well and truly gone so this is a decent point in our top four battle. Playing with ten men for an hour and always in the match.

I went from not thinking Casemiro was a foul to start with. But the second you saw how he'd gone in, off the ground, top of ball level, then pinging off it onto their man, you had to fear the worst.
And it was no surprise to me at all, as much as I was cursing it at the time.

You're out of your mind if you think that's a Red.
I think it's more people understanding why it was given, rather than agreeing with it. The original yellow sufficed for me.
You can just as easily cherry pick images that make it look a legbreaker.

Disappointing result but when you play an hour with 10 men, you take the draw. We weren’t at our best today for sure.

The biggest loss today is the upcoming 4 game ban for Casemiro.

Considering we usually go to complete shit a man down, I feel like the performance was pretty decent. Poor opponents alright, but still

To be quite honest when it comes to handball now I'm lost as to what is and isn't hand ball.

That's clear as day handball today & you see it given in plenty of other games

It did look a bit wild attacking wise didn't it.
No-one seeing that line up would have bet on 0-0 that's for sure!

I wonder at what minute ETH first regretted taking Weghorst off instead of Sancho. Another game that completely passed him and he never for a minute looked like meeting the extra demands post red card. A baffling decision given how consistently he has selected Weghorst during this run of good home form.

Surely, you want all your workhorses on the pitch to help mitigate the extra man. McTominay is cut from the same cloth and looked our man of the match battling against the odds.

Otherwise, a good solid effort from the team.

Thankfully it was Southampton we were playing when we went down to 10 and not a decent side. We would have been hammered otherwise. Far too many wayward, half-arsed passes, not to mention stupid flicks in dangerous positions.

Very poor officiating and they looked well up for it but we didn't look too good before the red , whether it's tiredness I don't know . 2 cup games coming up where we can start rotating the team but we have to start getting clinical in front of goal. A couple of half chances in that first half, stick one away and its a different game.

Him out for one game gets most of us worried, so 4 games is significant.

Hopefully we can still get past the likes of Fulham, Brentford and Everton all at home though.
If we can't we've got real problems.

Positives

Case will be fresher for our road to Europa League glory having missed 7 domestic games this season

Can't really fault anyone for losing two points bar the referees.

Good comeo from Pellistri. Martinez great, McTominay proofed he has his uses sometimes.

Big plus was the positive setup even after that joke of a red card.

I think you're drastically overstating the severity of the tackle. The most you could say is that his foot was high; Case's studs were pointed downward towards the ball (hence why they touch it) and he only goes into the tackle with one foot.

A yellow would've been absolutely fine; a red is ludicrous in my eyes.

I worry that the number of games is going to catch up with us. We can only hope that we get some players back to freshen up the team....

Bruno did a couple that were literally screen punch inducing. We're lucky the likes of Walcott is 10 years past his prime, or he'd have raced a couple in today.

I've seen several people say this in the match thread but I don't think there was any malice, just a hard tackle after a sprint. If Martinez did that to an oppo we'd be slabbering over him.

We still play some really good football and I have no doubt that we will make top 4. Today was just one of those days. Casemiro with a bad performance from the first minute and crowned it with a red card. AWB and Bruno with some dangerous passes to Southampton players. Rashford, Sancho and Antony also not having the best day and still if it wasn’t for their keeper having a couple of top saves we would have won this game.
Martinez MOM by a country mile.
McTominay good as well and I don’t understand why so many in here wants him out of the club.

This game was a must win to give us some top 4 breathing space before the international break. The run in could unravel quickly for us.

Idiotic from Casemiro again giving a ref the opportunity to send him off. We'll miss him for vital games now.

For all the plaudits this team have got, we're only 4 points better off than last season after 26 games.

It's pure straw clutching to suggest that challenge was anything bar a perfectly timed one isn't it.
That Garnacho got a knock from it is just unfortunate, but what happens in contact sports at times.

Was there any malice in Casemiro's? Neither is a red if you ask me, and we wouldn't talk about the tackle on Garnacho if the red card didn't happen. Just the inconsistency that's being pointed out

Shite result againt a pathetic team but could have been worse after the red. Bruno, AWB and Sancho were so casual today.

I don't think he had enough force to shatter the guy, but the second you leave the floor you run the risk.
We got away with it a little with Sabitzer the other week, luckily he'd pulled out enough to get away with it.
But you'll always risk it flying it off the ground.

We played with 10 men for an hour so it's point gained for me. We'll be without Casemiro vs Newcastle, Brentford and Everton which is another challenge...

He'll miss next weekend against Fulham first, since it was a red and not suspension due to yellows accumulated.

Given the amount of matches we’ve played, going down to 10 for 60 minutes and having just played Thursday, these guys deserve a lot of praise.

I actually made this point in the stupid "corruption" thread; this is what is so annoying. Sabitzer's tackle against Leicester was actually an obvious red card. It genuinely wouldn't have taken much for that to result in a really serious injury. Case's tackle today was hard but it would take some horrendous bad luck for anyone to come out of it seriously injured.

It's the lack of fecking consistency that is so frustrating. You just never know what the result of a VAR review will be.

Yeah, just realised it... Guess silver lining is it makes him fresh for Europa League games if we beat Betis.

It's a contact sport. Sometimes people get knocked in fair challenges.

Exactly. That’s why Casemiro shouldn’t have been carded. It was a fair challenge that ended with an unfortunate knock on the follow through. You made the point against yourself perfectly
