Real Sociedad 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I never thought i'll see a team with less attacking power than us. Sociedad were horrible (well, with Becker and Oskarsson on the pitch they improved a lot), yet we couldn't win again. Still, i see a big chance to beat them next week.

Really scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for something positive when it comes to watching the match these days. Haven't missed a match in years and getting the the point that those 2 hours could be used way more productively. Would it be sad to say that it a really hurts?

I was talking to an older couple from Surrey who mentioned they travelled from there to the opening match of the season and it took them 8 hours due to traffic and more lorries on the road. Imagine that. They were regular match goers for 40 years. I thought I had it bad. Shocking stuff

That's the thing that annoyed me the most, they were so bad and that penalty completely changed the momentum. The squad is threadbare as well and as he said at the end, everyone was so tired.

All that aside the reason we didn't win was brain dead football from our wide players and our striker having a combination of crap service and also not being able to do anything.

We’ll comfortably get through next week I reckon and we have a big chance to win the competition outright.

Will be a lot of negativity, but we have played worse than that under Ferguson away from home in Europe and got a win.

Decent result, I do fear our horrible home form though.

He does look talented. My issue is timing. Is this the right time for us to be starting another teenager? I can't see how. We need players in or about to come into their prime. That's what the scouts should be working on.

I agree but we could take anything at this point, be it a youngster playing well apart from an occasional inexperience issue or a 27 year old in great form. Anything is better than where we're at.

Thought we played ok and was shocked to see the pen. Was a proper WTF moment when he went to the screen. I think we could win 3-4 nil at OT. We aren't great but they are a far worse team then us. As sad as it is thought it was Højlunds best performance in a while, although there was a moment where he really messed up a good opportunity.

He's played what 3 games? Dont think he was that bad tbf
You kidding? That was probably the worst passing game we've had from a player this season. He was atrocious with the ball. It doesn't mean he's a dud, it's one game after all. But good grief I can't imagine what you consider "bad" if that wasn't it.

Oh for a fecking goal scorer, and players that have the nous to make the right pass near goal. Should have wrapped this up tonight Nervy 90 mins next week at OT

I thought we actually played decently for the most part, well, at least better than recently.

I like Garnacho a lot but I am also starting to get fed up with his poor decision making like many on here. Selling him this Summer ,if it multiplies what we can do financially makes more sense to me after games like this.

I know it is i penalty in this world but it totally sucks. Go try and jump in the air next tome someone jumping next to you... haha.

Forgot mention, even though squad is not good enough, a lot of these players have to be exhausted. There are no good subs for the most part.

No. People are overreacting.

I thought he was worse than Dalot on average, but Dalot had lower lows, if that makes sense. I had to go check the stats because I thought I’m going crazy since there is a pileup on Dalot:

In Dalot’s favour:
71 touches to 52
41 attempted passes to 28
68% pass completion to 64%
2 chances created to 1
2 shots to 1
1 shot on target to 0
5 passes into the final third to 1
4/6 aerial duels won to 1/2

Dorgu was better at ground duels (3/8 vs 1/4) and tackles won (1/1 to 0/1).

Forgettable game for both to be honest. Dorgu has the fact that he just joined the team in his favour, so hopefully onwards and upwards and better performances will be on the way

Infuriating game not to win and win comfortably. If we had a decent attack this would have been one of the most relaxing nights of the season and instead we go away with just a draw.

Still I didn't think we'd even manange that.

Spot on. Dalot better, but neither of them good.

Why? They were terrible until the dodgy pen and then the crowd gave them energy. They won’t have that at OT.
We've been absolutely shocking at OT. We've maybe been worse at home than away, teams come and seem to just enjoy themselves on our patch these days. We don't scare anyone anymore.

Will be a different atmosphere next Thursday. Players and fans. We know this is all we have left.

I think we can beat them at home. They looked absolutely terrible for almost the whole game and had zero they until the penalty

I'm not arsed about the arsenal game, just focus on keeping players for for the second leg. Id be giving Heaven and Chido a run out definitely and would start with Collyer to cover ground as well.

Think we'll see them off at OT but could be more of the same ie, big missed chances, opposition there for the taking and we have brain dead penalty gift or Onana assist for them.

We cannot seem to be able to enjoy a comfortable win and look like a team. Always has to be some nonsense to peg us back. We could've even lost here with the negative subs at the end.

A missed opportunity against a poor side. Anyone in the top 6 of the PL would have stuck 4 or 5 past them tonight. But alas we are where we are and it all equates to an edgy uncomfortable night at OT next week, one I think we’ll just about scrape through.

I do understand the thinking, not to bring youngsters in but look at our experienced players: Onana, Dalot, Casemiro, Eriksen etc. Lethargic or just crap. Docherty and Ferguson both brought in a bunch of young players from nowhere and it wasn’t just an immediate breath of fresh air but they became the foundation for years to come and build upon. Maybe it helped that they had each other’s support on the pitch.

Chido can’t play in this

The players make some absolutely brain dead decisions at times and it will constantly cost us points… the dalot cross to Hojlund was unforgivable, that’s literally his job. Who was he waiting for? De Ligt??
Thick as mince.

Spot on. Dalot better, but neither of them good.

One of them is a kid who was most recently seen playing for Lecce… the other is a seasoned pro who’s played under Mourinho, Ole, Ten Hag and now Amorim… he’s played for United for a long time now and there’s barely daylight between them..
neither of them are good enough to be first choice wing backs for one of the biggest clubs in the world.. it’s a joke

They'll throw everything at it at OT where we can't seem to put any type of performance together.

Can see it being 1-2.

Out 2-3 on agg.

And it's more craziness.

I asked a poster here if he'd be ok going into next season with 18 and 20 year old wingbacks and his answer was yes. I reckon plenty would say the same.
Many even prefer Quenda (who's just having first pro season) over Frimpong (who has proven himself on the wingback position for many years and won titles). I don't get it..

Some of you have no idea how momentum can be powerful in football. Just completely ignoring context and thinking the team that were utterly toothless for 70 minutes would be able to play like that in the return.
For the last 20 minutes, momentum was with Real Sociedad. If they carry that same momentum to the return leg, we are toast.

We didn't lose. That's a positive and I mean it. It is advantage to us for the 2nd leg back in OT. We should win this.

With a squad full to injuries and constant forces changes, I think Amorim is doing what he can.

I think one of the biggest reason why we dominated them was because we were better physically. Until the two tall attackers came on, they were bullied by our players who are used to English standards. So even if we played utterly bad, they couldn't stand a chance. The only way they could create danger was by well taken long shots (twice by Mendez). Also, they played without their key player Zubimendi. Let's hope he's out in the second leg, too.

The shit show continues. And some people still say ole was clueless. Most exciting manager since fergie left and we drove him out with pitchforks. We deserve everything that we get.
