He's played what 3 games? Dont think he was that bad tbf
So after 30 games he will magically learn how to pass and cross? His base level seems awfully low. I am scared looking at our financial position, we can’t afford to feck up signings, why after soo much change in scouting department, we are still signings players with so many obvious flaws specially technically.

I always keep in mind that we might do something foolish and end up losing.
Wouldn't be the first time.
That’s fair but I don’t think this in particular is foolish. There’s about 5 players all jumping in the same way during that corner. Are they all doing something wrong or is that just how people jump?

Could see the frustration with Ruben in the after match interview. Said United had control of the game and momentum swung with the penalty. Final quarter fatigue played its part and naturally so having played with ten men for half the game last Wednesday and Extra time on Sunday.

Let's see after 30 games, then we might be able to make a better judgement perhaps

Feels like a defeat.Dalot not squaring the ball to Rasmus in the first half was criminal, shocking non football intelligence.
Garnacho was dreadful, his attitude is really poor.
I think we'll comfortably do them at Home.

That must be about 40 goals conceded this season from a total inability to defend set pieces properly.

Am I the only one that can't rate players in this game and can't comment in players performances thread?

zero point playing Hojlund, he's an empty shirt. absolutely never where he should be on the break.
In fairness 1st half Dalot and then Dorgu had opportunity to put him clear in on goal in the same attack, he had made good space, I thought his general play was awful tonight but even when he is where he should be he doesn't get the pass

We should have been out of sight. Sociedad are terrible.

But at home, we're a disaster. Hope I'm wrong, but it's very easy to see them knocking us out at a nervy ot.

Our players have such a dreadful mentality. They drop the heads the minute they concede.

I also think we must coach stupidity because dalot and garnacho have to be 2 of the dumbest m'fers I've ever seen.

I keep saying the same.

What are people expecting of Dorgu. He's 20, only just getting going in his career. He shouldn't really be here yet.

But people want more teenagers in there.

Expectaction comes with oppertunity cost and transfer fee and wages. While we're hearing we have to sell our homegown players to fund transfers in the future, we spent all of Jan trying to get the Dorgu deal done. So you would hope that a £24 million signing that you spent all your focus on all window would give the team something it had needed. Yes he's only 20 and yes he needs another couple of games before any real evaluations can be made, but you can't just throw away £24million+ on any old player to play left wingback when we're talking about selling our best players for around the £60 million mark.

This isnt his fault, he absolutely deserves more time, but the decision makers who decided to sign him for that much at this point rather than working on other deals in Jan are on the clock.

I havent seen today's match but I thought before signing him that its too much money and that he's not currently at a good level compared to the other options being mentioned for left wingback like Kerkez, Robinson or Guierrez

One bonus though is that Diego Leon does look like a player so if Dorgu doesnt play well, eventually I think Diego Leon will be a good leftback for us and they did make that signing.

Results more than performance at this point in the season. I think we'd all have taken 1-1 before the game if it'd been on offer.

No one in this competition looks great. I know it's a big ask, but need to grind out a result at home, then see what happens from there.

I got an official warning for criticising Dalot, which apparently offended some of the caf, so to appease the powers that be and not offend the Dalot lovers in the room, I would like to say Diogo Dalot is not very good at football and we should be aiming higher.

That Sociedad CM, Beñat Turrientes, looks pretty good. Still only 23 yo also.

Agree with you on Dorgu. He shouldn't have been bought. He's too young. Too inexperienced. It's going to be a steep learning curve for him.

But Diego Leon is just more of the same. Unless he's ridiculously special how does a teenager from the Paraguayan league come into this United and hit the ground running?

It's completely unrealistic to me.

Barcelona took this Sociedad team apart at the weekend, in the end they looked liklier to win. Says a lot.

Its rubbish and it continues to be so. We played some half-decent counter attacking stuff when we were 1-0 up. That vanished as soon as Socieded equalised.

It would be miraculous if we won the Europa League.
Sociedad had 10 men for most of the game vs Barca.

Well. We're heavily linked with a 17 / 18 y.o. wingback.

Three things you will never see:-
1) Garnacho winning a challenge
2) Dalot making an early cross
3) Hojland competing aerially rather than just backing into a defender

And it's more craziness.

I asked a poster here if he'd be ok going into next season with 18 and 20 year old wingbacks and his answer was yes. I reckon plenty would say the same.

Agreed but also entirely unsurprised, have we really done anything to improve our approach to identifying and signing players
A club who is penny pinching, axing jobs, taking free meals of staff, hiking ticket prices to get a few million pounds savings, goes out and spends 25m on a player whose only redeeming quality is running. We used to have players like Park, Fletcher who were great at running and working hard but also technically brilliant and reliable. Now we have a marathon runner for 25m.

Oh you're absolutely right, I'm saying that when hes of age to play in the first team - which may be 19-20, he looks like he has the style of play that suits playing an ideal left wingback to me. He's fast, loves running with the ball and when he looks up to pick out a teammate he's using the right technique for his final ball or cross. So I think at the same age as Dorgu, or whenever he's given the chance in the first team he's going to do a good job with those things. And yes he will of course be young and inexperienced at the same time. I cant say the same thing about Dorgu. He has other strengths and limitations imo and doesnt have the ideal style, especially as a left wingback.

What is happening with Hojlund?

Referee had more impact than him. He just strolls around watching

I don’t think he’s had a shot in about 12 games now
Strongly disagree.

Not really his job but I imagine an experienced striker would be in that dressing room ripping in to Dalot, Bruno and Casemiro. Since he however doesn’t probably have the stature to do that you would hope the manager is doing it.

The amount of Under hit passes they hit through to him. There were a good few times he had that back line and there was space in-front of him and Bruno or Casemiro would under hit a pass so he is having to wait for it.

He was alright in terms of his general play and he worked hard and constantly tried to get inbehind and he made some really good runs. Heck Ethe Bruno shot and the Zirkzee goal, his run drags the defence deep creating that little pocket of space for them to use.

There are many little things he does that people just don’t tend to notice. Also fed in Garnacho to take a shot twice.

He does look talented. My issue is timing. Is this the right time for us to be starting another teenager? I can't see how. We need players in or about to come into their prime. That's what the scouts should be working on.

Felt like we did ok today. Had good control in 70 minutes. I feel like we’re getting there sloowly. It’s going to take some time before we get more stable performance's, but today we were kind of onto something. Watching the game I realized we have to look at the bigger picture. Amorim came to implement a style. And he also said early on it will be ugly.

We should also not forget we have a lot of unavailable players. Even if you could magically attain the best possible manager for this group of players, right now, would he make this team perform as a top 4 club in 3 months?

It’s like you really have to hit the basement before you’ll make a proper change.

Are we just trying to let ashworth turn us into a glorified Southampton? Presume his investments in youth made Southampton quite a but of money but they also got relegated
