EL W Europa League Group E

Manchester United 1:0 Omonia Nicosia

Post-match discussion

Thu, 13 October 2022

Mctominay is the first sub to score a 90th minute winning goal in a European match for United since Solskjaer in the 1999 champions league final.

We're so shit.

I'm fed up of us being so shit.

I wish at least we played the youngsters instead.
Pfft. I feel like I've seen literally hundreds of those games in Europe, plenty under Fergie. We've won, what? 7 of the last 8? If we'd have scored 2 or 3 of those 162 chances, it'd go down as a decent performance. I don't feel the need for the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

We didn't score 2 or 3 of those 162 chances though. So we can't call it a decent performance.

Rashford puts away one of the early chances and we win that game comfortably.

We were so painfully slow though, far too much sideways passing with no penetration. Usual issues to be honest:

Our finishing has been less than stellar since the last days of the Ferguson era. This is an aspect of our game that must improve if we’re to become part of the major trophy acquisition conversation.

That's exactly what I mean. The performance doesn't change depending on how many we score, just the scoreline. 'We were shit' is based on them not going in. Fine margins, innit?

We struggle to beat Omonia at home and then cry when City thrash us at Etihad. The irony. Casemiro was a positive. And thank feck for the Fergie time goal!

We beat possibly the weakest European team Utd have ever played ….in injury time.

Whoop fecking eee!

Same shit the past 8 years....United have issues scoring enough goals to be competitive at the top. Yes, defensively they've been okay and good at times, but they've had difficulties creating enough chances to then become goals.

At minimum, United should be averaging at or over 2.0 goals per game. It's going to be a struggle either way.

Keeper had a great game. Rashford should have had a couple first half. Glad we won it at the end. Deffo red on Casemiro. Move on.

We played well bar the horrible finishing, especially first half. Completely controlled the game and were hungry to win the ball back at every opportunity. Started to get a bit more ragged as we got more desperate in the second but thankfully got the job done.

Decent apart from the top end that was wasteful. I'd be more concerned if United were struggling to create clear cut chances and only had 10 or so shots on goal.

Bruno doesn’t do nearly enough. He’s so wasteful. A game like tonight he should be totally bossing it. He’s just such a frustrating footballer.

To be fair, Sociedad only beat them by a late goal in Spain, and still have to play them in Cyprus. They’ve been decent for minnows in this group stage, despite 0 points on the board.

Less than stellar is one thing but that was the most abject display of finishing or playing the final pass that I've ever seen, from any team.

It was like watching someone play fifa on the easiest settings and somehow still being too shit to score, despite the fact literally anything they try will just work.

For the entire fecking game we were being allowed to just walk into the box and shoot, or pass the ball along the floor to someone stood 8 yards from their goal. Or just stroll in behind with next to no skull or effort.

That game was the attacking equivalent to watching Maguire score 7 own goals and then accidentally headbutting De Gea in the balls. It actually defied belief how bad it was.

Deserved it. Our best performance so far, would've been 5-6 on another day
Not a chance.

There was ridiculously giddy posts after we beat a hopeless Everton team. We have today absolutely struggled to be a team from Cyprus.

It shows how terribly average we are despite spending hundreds of millions of pounds.

The lack of speed of thought and running and forward movement and a decent striker were laid bare for all to see tonight.

Why is everyone ignoring the penalty we should have had , on fouling Malacia.

Listen, i am no Neil Lennon fan but he is no mug. Folks on here seem to forget he set up a team that beat Barcelona. We won move on. TenHag knows they need to find the back of the net more regular quote " its a game of scoring goals"

Need to watch the game back, as being in the stadium right next to the away fans was impossible to watch the match properly.

Felt Bruno had a good game and Rashford would've scored at least once if their keeper wasn't playing like Burnley Tom Heaton or Newcastle Dubravka!

Shit it was only 1-0, but feel like this is what we've always been like in the EL.

Some of you are dickheads basically.
Should be beating everyone 5-0 mate, the 2008 lot with Rooney & Ronaldo in the team definitely wouldn't have dropped points to Celtic or Aalborg and I'm certain the treble winners wouldn't have drawn with some team called Lodz.

We couldn't finish our dinner. If Greenwood isn't coming back then we have to sign a new striker in January or we won't get top 4, it's that simple.

Play that game again tomorrow and it’s a 5-0 Utd win. I know we’re a bit blunt up top but we’re not that bad.

That keeper incarnated himself in the Friedelness like that Johnsson guy for Copenhagen two seasons ago.

Also could have been a much different game had they squared the easy pass for the tap in. Their Bruno was just as bad there as ours. Should've gone 1-0 down at that point
