Did anyone see Martial pissing himself laughing when Januzaj was sent back to the bench the second time  Good bit of banter.

What's up with this Martial - Herrera mix-up in the ratings? And why have you lot given him 5.9? I gave him a 9.

It was a big game for us today. Nothing but a win would have been enough. Van Gaal made quite a few changes, and it shown, as we looked pretty unsettled in the first 10-15 minutes, where Norwich could have taken the lead trhough Cameron Jerome's header.

After we survived the onslaught, we got into our usual possession game, but again, like so many occasions this season, we weren't able to create much. Our best chance possibly come from a corner, where, on another day, Smalling may have found the net.

It was a game of very few chances, which many would have predicted before the game, due to both teams finding it hard to create much this season.

We seemed to step up the tempo a bit second half. The triangle of Herrera, Valencia and Mata seemed to be our best route to goal. We got down left side of Norwich quite a few times, and eventually it paid off, with a hopeful long pass from Valencia, putting Rooney through on goal, courtesy of a Bassong mistake. Even then, we didn't look entirely convincing we were going to score, as it seemed Rooney had taken one touch too many. Thankfully, he had the composure to hold it up and lay it off to an oncoming Mata, who was able to slot it in.

Once we scored, despite Alex Neil putting another striker on, it didn't really trouble us. Smalling proved why he was the player's player of the season, as he literally won everything in the air.

With the additions of Mensah and Schneiderlin, we were able to kill of the game, and bag ourselves a very important three points.

Finally, is it only me that thought Rooney showed good awareness with his assist? The consensus here seems to be that he almost fecked it up and got lucky with the Mata pass. I thought he showed a good awareness of Mata running in behind, he knew he didn't have the pace to get away so picked out Mata.
He had a clear opening to shoot with his left foot from near the penalty spot. The biggest part of luck for him was Olsson not tracking the run of Mata.

Mate I admire your writing skills. Your summary made us sound way better than we actually were. I think I fell asleep at least 4 times throughout the match. Holy crap I cannot take another year of this, 4th or not.

He did but people hate Rooney so have a bias.

Think his assist sums up his playing style these days. Wants to burst past people and bang in those thunderous goals of yore but body simply is not up to it. However still has the footballing intelligence and awareness to make a play if given a chance. That is why he needs to play in mid now.

People are thrilled to bits that West Ham are losing. We still want 4th place, just don't want the manager. I was relieved that we won today. Relieved is the word, most games we have won have been a relief. It shouldn't be like that.
Swansea just scored a third as well.

I didn't really have any emotion when the goal when in. I was like ok LVG survives another day (feck). This really conflicts with my overall desire for the team to win and get 4th.

Redcafe posts. moan moan moan

Seems some will be upset that West Ham are loosing - Do they really call themselves Manchester United supporters?

Moaning for LVG to go and that we play sh*t on a stick football is different from moaning about winning ugly. I think the majority of cafers here are in the former camp.

the trouble is mate they are not all thrilled they put dislike of manager above team something I just do not understand.

Really have to hand it to LVG and his staff, to spend over £300 million and then be able to consistently play such awful football is some achievement. To have such little spark is beyond belief.

I dont think he has the desire to score thunderbolts tbh. Even today he had a chance to score but didn't back himself.

Have a United no.11 and no.7 ever been so ineffectual during as season as this one?

He did want to score on his left foot but he was a bit slow and Bassong recovered. That's why he had to turn and look for passing options. To his credit he found Mata.

Could care less about the quality of performance as long as we get the results in the next two games.

That game was just really boring. I literally fell asleep watching it. It's not even dull tactics, it's no tactics.

He did well to find Mata but i cant help thinking a better striker wouldve just stuck it away first time.

Why he went back to the bench anyway? I was watching the game for 65 mins but need to go then so I didn't saw what happened.

In what way did I make us sound better than we were?

Today was a very typical performance under Van Gaal. Possession, possession, possesion and little to no end product. Once we scored the goal, we were able to defend the lead, which, in a way, has been one of our very few postives this season.

Awful game. Made worse that I watched it severely hungover. I guess it the results that are important at this stage, but Van Gaal really isn't doing much to convince the naysayers that he should stay.

Yes it can be tolerated for 2 more games, and even the FA cup final if needs be, but for sake of sanity we can not go through this next season again, and that only means one thing, but I have no faith it will, he is finding the results at precisely the right time.

LVG is such a lucky git - our team won playing horrible football, unrecognizable to us United supporters, and West Ham get hammered at home!!

Yes, the idea of him being here beyond this month is quite depressing. Let's hope Woodward and the board have a plan and Mourinho is brought in and all the signings are done immediately.

I don't know how long you've supported Utd but there were loads of games like this under SAF.They were usually at the back end of the season and we were fighting for the title.People do have selective amnesia when it comes to Utd performances

Excellent summary of the game :)

There were definitely lots of games like today, but not a whole seasons worth.
