PL W FA Premier League

Manchester City 1:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Had to watch this a day later because of work. I don‘t think it was a dull game, just a tactical one with a lack of opportunities in front of goal which is pretty normal for a top fixture.

This win is so important, because we had lost two PL games in a row and Amorim might be in trouble. Things are moving in the right direction for once, so that would be unfortunate.

We still have a long way to go. Defense looks much better, but we need to improve in midfield and attack. We look more solid, so overall I‘m happy with where things are going.

Yea, it was a cautious game, but not a dull one. I was very pleased with our control of City. They are in deep shit, but they have still been able to put teams to the rope for smaller or larger parts of the game recently - just less than before and it hasn’t paid off like before either. Sporting was really lucky in that first half. This time, City were very lucky to even get a goal at home. This even as our Plan A was forcibly changed by Mount’s injury after about fifteen mins or so.

The other thing I liked, was us speeding up the last twenty minutes, changing the game with substitutions and creating chances without opening our belly totally.

It’s also interesting and very enjoyable that in our three latest grand victories vs City (2-1 at home, 2-1 cup final and 2-1 away) we have scored from pressuring their defence into huge bloopers. Seems we’ve caught onto something there! :)

Are you kidding? Not overwhelmed? Before 80th min, we on ly had 1 clear shot on target (almost), and bad miss by Bruno. We were defending well but offensively was like a car with a flat tire. The only good point was we didn't give up throughout and kept on running. If it wasn't City's clear mistake, we could have been 3-0 down by half time and much worse final result.
I was making reference to other games when we were at times in desperate straights, and against top teams perpetually getting the run around, looking like we expected to lose.
On Sunday, as you say we did not surrender at any point and kept the engine running throughout. Given the changes made and the attempts by the new manager to try changes and to get things right, 'on the job,' so to speak, it was for me at least a encouraging performance.
Against the PL's current champions!

The new commentator on ManUtd youtube channel, maybe it's the same as MUTV... who is he? Kept calling Amad "Emet". Not a lot of excitement after he scored the winning goal as well. Annoying.
If it helps, Emet is Turkish for “truth” and I am okay with that for Amad.

Too many good things to criticize anything here...

A win against City at the Emptyhad... I don't care if they're in 20th, a win over City is good... I don't care that they're struggling now, a win over City is good.

Progress continues to occur on the pitch, even when goals don't manifest. Thought we were the better team through most of the game.

Amad is the man right now. I want the club to treat him properly, though, and not create another ego-monster. Hoping we've learned our lesson now. That said, what a player!

Ugarte was so solid in the middle, as was Maz.

The back three! I know a lot don't like the 3-4-3 and what it usually becomes in some situations, but as a small-time youth coach, I love the formation because it's so versatile. The Martinez-Maguire-DeLigt combo might be our best one at the moment, but with our roster, we can swap one or two for any game and keep everyone sharp and injury-free. Maguire can thrive in this setup because it reinforces where he has weaknesses. And he handled Haaland just fine.

I think Bruno gets way too much stick - he'll do well in this new look because he's a class player. Look at his composure during that pen. Give things more time as Amorim gets everyone in line and figures out where everyone fits.

And I think Antony might find a place, too. The price tag he wears isn't his fault and it's already paid. We're not getting that back.

As for Zirkzee... that final breakaway where he just patiently dribbles down towards the corner, fighting off two or three City players to keep it going and wind down the clock... yeah, I don't see enough of that.

Also loving the 90+ minutes of fight that the team has. Amorim has already instilled some expectations, he just doesn't carry on about them to the press. Every camera shot on him during the match, I see the gears turning in his head as to what he needs to work on next. This man is a COACH. He has a vision and he's going to make it work.

Amad's first touch on the ball was Messiesque. Fine, we were a bit lucky that City (not sure who exactly) didn't clear the ball off the line but what a fantastic piece of skill to control the ball with both feet in the air (check it out) and then score from a nearly impossible position for the match winner.

Take a bow, son!

Just watched another clip of that goal and I think I was so caught up in the moment that I was completely oblivious to that first touch and back heel by Ugarte in the build up.

What did City do?
First of all, they scored. Secondly we had something like 0 shot on target by half time if I remember correctly, may be partly due to City partly due to us, as usual. We didn't give them too much space on open play which was our credit.

My main point was, we never look like we are going to equalise before 70th. That 3 points was 70% City fault, 20% Amad's effort, 10% Manager's credit for not wasting space on Rashford. Even Antony was more committed.

The game is 90 mins long + whatever is added on, it doesn't matter when we equalize or get the winning goal, just becaue we didn't create many chnaces doesn't nean we were overwhelmed which is what you were claiming in an earlier post

We clearly were frustrating Cheaty, to our credit. They got themselves in trouble after scoring a random goal, but we fully deserved equalizing. There was a big opportunity for Bruno and some smaller chances.

We were lucky Amad‘s goal wasn‘t cleared off the line for sure. That doesn‘t take away from all the good stuff that preceded it.
