only a friendly I know, but somehow I'm annoyed that we lost - probably because I think we should have won

saw some really good moves from us, but last ball/finishing was wayward

Honestly quite heartened by that. With a bit more composure we win it easily, some good minutes with no injuries and a big step up on shots conceded. No big hole in midfield, looked more balanced - admittedly against a weaker city. Still, good enough. If we can find a cutting edge before Friday we will be doing well.

The goal from a position we are imminently about to strengthen.

Agreed. Pellistri at RB for the goal. Felt bound to happen.

Very happy with the last 60.

Bruno, what energy. 90m like that today after the lay off.

I agree. I think he was poor last season because we burned him out by over relying on him the season before, and Brazil have done us a huge favour by giving him the summer off. I think (hope!) we will see beast mode Case this season!

His legs look more under him for sure. Very happy about his performance today and hopeful for him to bounce back. We obviously need to sign competition for him within the squad.

Are we really kicking off the embarrassing Rashford abuse after what was essentially a pre season game?

Some of you honestly come across like you're about 8 years old.

He could get 30+ goals this season and some of you would still slag him off for no other reason than to protect your own idiotic hate filled opinions.
Agreed mate.

Yeah lets count players we know aren't better than the ones played and add 4 players in there that haven't made a professional appearance for us two not even having signed. Wonder why you didn't just added Varane as well...Just for the sake of it.

But each to their own.
So you are saying Hoijland, Shaw, Garnacho and Yoro are not better than the ones who played? Forget the other new signings.

Exactly - to each their own.

Sorry but this isn’t the first time for many of seeing Rashford playing like he isn’t interested, it’s what has been happening for last 12 months, so people being worried and being vocal about it isn’t wrong. This is a cup game against one of your bitter rivals, play like you mean it is what everyone is asking for.

There were some good plays for sure, but most of his flaws are still there and very apparent. For a player earning as much as he does, people expecting more is right! He is a professional footballer which comes with certain responsibilities just like any other job. It’s also clubs fault to let him do things the way he does and get away with it. If mount doesn’t perform then people will be critical about him too.

I came away from yesterday quite satisfied. We had a slow start but from the moment Amad got in and tried to play that ball across it was like a light bulb went off and confidence grew in the team that we could go at them.

Finishing was a problem and we probably should have had a few goals.

Overall given it is still pre season there were promising signs. Did see things that might also become a bit of an issue if it doesn’t improve like the passing out.

Why city weren’t jumping all over that I don’t know.

Alot of positives to take away from the game. We were clearly the better side, creating the better chances.

I hope we ship Sancho out. He will probably blame the missed penalty on united and ETH. Made him panic and didn't take care of his mental health or something.

That is pretty harsh. Especially after his contribution last season.
It is the very fact that he could get 20+ goals is what annoys so many including me when you have seen how he spent most of the time not really bothering.

Apart from 20 minutes where we just took it to easy we controlled the game and should have won. Lot of positive signs.

Community Shield is meh, what bothers me about yesterday was that once again we couldn't hold on in a winning position
.Well impressed with Amad & Bruno .

Man City created just 0.55(xG) against Man Utd yesterday. For context, the last Premier League game they created less was in December 2016

Poor English. Pellistri allowing Bernardo to score the header.
So you are blaming a kid who has probably never played there before? Shouldn't the blame be directed against the fact that we didn't gave a viable left back ?

So you are saying Hoijland, Shaw, Garnacho and Yoro are not better than the ones who played? Forget the other new signings.

Exactly - to each their own.
That is exactly what I am saying. Yoro hasn't even made a match for us, so your assumption of him being better is based on nothing at all. Garnacho is promising, is he better than Rashford and Amad? Certainly not a clear yes. Hojlund better than the Bruno-Mount combination? Both don't seem to be "good". I'll give you Shaw. That makes 1 player you could really make a case for.

Lets keep it like that, we aren't going to agree on it. When you want to think, that we were worsened by players not being available to the same extent as City was, playing without their 1st choice midfield alltogether, then be my guest.

Garnacho is promising, is he better than Rashford and Amad? Certainly not a clear yes.
I think it’s pretty clear he is.
I'll give you Shaw. That makes 1 player you could really make a case for.
Hard to made a case for a player who is seldom available. We need a new LB!

We really should have won this game. Good performance and we were the better side for the second time in a row vs City, although it has convinced me of the need for a reliable goalscorer - think this team will create more chances this season than last, but I'm not convinced we have the ability to finish those chances off.

Still, definitely cause for optimism.

Good performance. I can't believe Erik is still manager. Will be interesting to see who he brings in.

I haven't watched a minute of pre-season so yesterday was the first game I've seen since last year and that was an encouraging performance, enough to give me a bit of optimism that wasn't there before. Clearly City were nowhere near full strength but we also had several missing and many in their first game back. The first 30 minutes were sloppy but after that we were the better side and created 5 very good opportunities as well as the goal. Defensively looked a lot more solid, refreshing to get through a game without giving away endless chances.

I think it’s pretty clear he is.
Debatable. I think, he is a bit one-dimensional, granted, I'd like to see Garnacho more than I see Rashford but in terms of better or worse, I don't think, there is much between them.

I am totally with you here. I am not a Shaw fan myself, I just acknowledge, that he can be a very good player and he wasn't available yesterday.

A lot to be pleased about. Garnacho is taking over the goal 'go to man' . Some excellent through and over the top balls from Bruno, I liked the look of Collyer.
Once we got going looked as though we would finish it off. Only downside was letting/asking Johnny Evans to take a pen....Noooooooo! typical centre-back finish.
Looking forward to Friday

Couldn’t care less about the result. Admittedly only watched the highlights but it was all united? Promising.

First 25 minutes were ropey but after that I thought we played pretty well. Should have wrapped it up really but if I had the choice I'd rather have the three points on Friday so hopefully we can do that.

Holy Mother of God the average player rating here is harsh. After a ponderous start we grew into the game and effectively controlled the game until the 89th when a non-fullback was beaten for the equalizer. The pk shoutout…unless the defender is a pk specialist always go with an attacking player before a defender.

It certainly wasn't all United. But United certainly created the better chances and on balance should have won.

Well I scored the players ratings just after the end and was very close to the average.

5.8 is harsh. Yes of course City were not at full strength but nor were we. That we kept it close without help from bad officiating or beach balls alone merits something above average and the fact — or at least the widely held opinion — that we were the better side on the day should land us closer to 6.5-7. My average player rating was 6.3, which one could say is not that far off 5.8 but in truth player ratings fall within a narrow band the low 5s to the high 6s most of the time. We were better than average yesterday.

Fair enough. My take was that on average, we were just a bit above the average which I assess as a 5. There were a couple of performances that dragged my average down. Rashford a Mount. And Sancho penalty miss given he wasn't on that long to negate that miss, unlike Evans who was and played ok.

Somehow I don't believe putting Pellistri at RB would show his strengths to prospective buyers looking in our shop window.. Maybe that's not what was happening and maybe ETH didn't have an ulterior motive at the expense of us winning the game. It was essentially a pre season game which are to get your squad fit and sharp for the upcoming season. Maybe that was his motive?

People literally go out of their way to find something to be angry at ETH for.. In this case making up a scenario in your head and running with the idea as if there was no other logical explanation. We lost the game because we couldn't finish off our chances that were created by our good/excellent build up play today.
:+1:

:boring:

He's had all summer, unlike others, he still wasn't good enough.

I once wrestled an eel in a Fiat Panda doing 70 on the M23, it was scary and quite unpleasant, so I have a lot of respect for people who have been through the same or similar eel trauma. There's no phone connection to this story though and I

No sorry it isn't harsh.

If you come in here to dish out abuse to our own players (after a fecking pre season game), or frankly if you dish out petty abuse to anyone because they didn't play football the way you liked, then you need to have a serious word with yourself.

It is not a normal way for fully grown adults to behave. It is what spoilt nasty children do.

It's embarrassing for all of us. Please stop it, and if you're incapable of stopping it maybe seek therapy.
