PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 2:1 Leicester City

Post-match discussion

Fri, 10 August 2018

Misses all the action at the end of the game, but overall I think it was a game over control even when they were controlling possession.

Good start and should keep grinding results till the WC players gain fitness and start.

Shaw was very decent and deserved to score.

Young lad on Sky now, Madison, great game and good interview, better than the usual shit media trained tat we get.
They should create a chant for him based on that Not3s song.

An enjoyable match of football with a lot of positives and minimal negatives for us.

Pogba was quality. Just oozes class and he seems to have a real hunger and confidence.

Sanchez wasn't great and he was wasteful but I don't think he was as bad as people are making out. I thought we looked vulnerable down the right hand side defensively and offered little going forward. I'd like to see Alexis play down that side and anyone but Darmian behind him. Rashford was a lot worse IMO but he's barely got back so don't want to give him so much grief.

Fred is the type of player I like. Looking for the ball in defensive situations and offensive situations, a lot of energy and a lively, positive player in general. I felt he was sloppy at times but you've got to understand that. Pereira was solid too. Very calm on the ball.

Bailly was excellent for the most part. Aggressive and committed. I liked Lindelof too he's a calm defender. Not as eye catching as Bailly but equally effective I felt.

I want to give a special mention to Shaw. I have my doubts about him as much as I like him but felt he was excellent overall. A threat going forward and read things well when Leicester had the ball. I really, really hope this becomes the norm for him.

Much better second half, shit that we were hanging on at the end as 2-0 would have been a much more pleasing result

Pogba immense
Fred and Pereira both good
Bailly beastly
Sanchez fairly shit apart from some nice cross field balls

Pogba was a bit downvast in his interview post game. i do hope the stories of unrest were just media bullshit
Ah I didn’t get the impression that he was downcast. More that he wanted to give the impression that he is confident / motivated and mature, given that he has been given the armband today. I liked that he reiterated his desire to win the PL.

Can't believe the stick Sanchez gets. He is looking to create all the time but the rest are just not with him. One example I remember from the game: where he picks the ball up in midfield rides the tackle and then sends a perfectly weighted pass to Mata on the right. Mata with all the time in the world floats in a feeble cross and nothing comes of it.

You remember one example. Unfortunately I remember multiple examples of him giving the ball away. He worked hard but his pass accuracy tonight was appalling.

The moaning continues. First game...two new midfielders... several players coming back from vacations a week or less ago. Sometimes I am wondering is this Man Utd forum or Pools forum? I fed up of the negativity here.

A solid if unspectacular start. There were some positives and negatives.
Positives:
1) The Fred, Pereira, Pogba midfield. It's the most talented midfield we've had for quite some time. All three of them were fantastic.
2) Our fast start at OT. Very rarely did we start games on the front foot and attacking very aggressive last season but we looked much improved at the start this time and quickly got rewarded with a penalty. This team has the capability to play really attractive attacking football if we let them play. Time for Jose to understand the best form of defence is attack.
3) Eric Fecking Bailly. if he stays fit he will be the best CB in the PL without a doubt.

Negatives:
1) we still give the iniative to lesser teams. I don't like this. Why do we sit back and invite pressure like this? Our team doesn't have the ability to park the bus and soak up pressure. We are much better with the ball. I knew we would concede when Pogba and Fred went off.
2) Sanchez. He needs to fix up quickly because he lost too many balls today.
3) Darmian is still shite.

Lets not dress it up. Rubbish. this will be par for our course this season. solid and very, very unspectacular. imagine us against a good team playing like that. we are the new Arsenal.

I actually really like the red black combo, not so sure on the lower stripes but I like the black Adidas arm stripes and black shorts
It would be okay-ish with black socks. And without the lower stripes.

But as it is, it's terrible.

There are a lot of positives. But there's also a lot of work to do to get the best of our players.

IMO we should change the system. We are playing 433 where Sanchez and Mata are average. Sanchez should be supporting striker next to Lukaku. I like Pereira in our midfield, I hope he plays most of the games.

In your opinion... Which system would get the best of our players?

We started the game well. That midfield looked real good at moments, all three industrious and quality on the ball.
Peirrera looked very consistent.
Rashford, Mata, Sanchez and Darmian were poor. Mata had a few moments, but combining him with Darmian makes our right wing an easy target, and unbalances the team.
Bailly was really good and I hope Shaw grows in confidence after this good performance.

Thought there were some real positives tonight for 1st game. Midfield looked good, central defence was strong and Shaws’ performance might mean we can move Young to RB in place of Darmian. Sanchez cannot play that badly again surely.

Fred can be our Edgar Davids! Two footed and a complete class act for his first game at OT.

So f**** depressing what did you expert?!? We won and youbare miserable- please change team.

A half fit team missing 3-4 players who wins- still you are moaning.
So fed up- and this is the first the match

New around here, is there not a threead just for post match interview stuff? from players and manager.

Man Utd 1:0 Leicester - Pogba (3' pen)

Man Utd 2:0 Leicester - Shaw (83')

Man Utd 2:1 Leicester - Vardy (90' + 2)

Fyi, first goal and second goal videos are both unfortunately the same link to the second goal.

Peace. ✌️

Thank you for your hard work.

Good win, & did what we had to do. That is the only thing that matters. Very good from DDG, Shaw, & Bailey, with Pogba performing well at times, though got tired in the end. Only concern with our play is the tendency to sit back after scoring, allowing the opposition to take control. Any side with a more ruthless attack than Leicester would have taken advantage.

Sanchez seems to have carried on from last season, with lots of endeavour but little end product. He nearly cost us at the very end when conceding possession, with Mourinho furious. I thought he was supposed to be great this season, our best player, according to the pre season reviewers. Shows how little that really means.

How are Leicester not a good team? They played well, just didn't take their chances and we did a bit better. Odd.

Diamond. However it would require a lot of work from the full backs and centre mids to cover the wide spaces. We have the central talent, but i am not sure if valencia/dalot or shaw/young, can be given that sort of responsibility.

Three points. First game. I'll take that. On to the next one. The game itself...same old really. No use becoming a broken record. No one likes that. Happy for Shaw. I was starting to think he'll never score a senior goal. And that boy Maddison...seems worth the hype!

Tell you what, that Leicester team is not half bad. They're gonna do well.

I was thinking this for most of the game, best they have looked since they won the title. Just lacking end product really.

I'm made up we got the win. Alls you can ask for after that preseason, should be more than enough time for everyone to get up to scratch for the next game now.

Good start and should keep grinding results till the WC players gain fitness and start.

Shaw was very decent and deserved to score.

Was a few times I thought Shaw could bomb up the flank a bit more but I guess he did not want to put the defence at risk and jeopardise his performance.

Extremely happy he got a goal, just a shame about the clean sheet with 2 mins to go but not surprised to see Leicester score. They pushed us all the way.

Disagree. Thought that was a good test for us tonight considering our injuries and lack of fitness of the WC players. Leicester are no mugs and will be top half come the end of the season. For me there are far more positives than negatives to take away from this game, and I think we will improve with more games under our belts. Three points is all that matters on day one imo.

He can become better but that was very encouraging and far better than anything he did in the preseason. The goal should give him good confidence and hopefully he kicks on from here.

Missed most of the match, but what I saw looked decent but lacking match rhythm. That midfield looked great.

100%. The WC has been a blessing in disguise for him because had we not had so many players out and the issues with our defence I'm confident he would have been out the door. Onwards and upwards I guess. Let's hope he can start against Brighton next week.

Motm Perreira. Did he give the ball away once?
Pogba excellent and Bailly equally as good.
Didn’t enjoy Leicester dominating possession but we should be used to that by now.
Cautiously promising

Both sides had many players out. It’s early season and understandable to see a performance we saw tonight when the side is so heavily rotated and tired. Some very good moments from the team. Shaw, Pereira, and Pogba were outstanding. Although, too early to judge I like Fred's bite and forward thinking. Watching Maguire it's understandable why United were interested in a top-class defender. Composure whilst defending and on the ball is missing from our central defenders. Most important part of today's game was a win. The clouds have at least been lifted from all the negativity of the last week.

Are you guys for real??? Could you guys please FO for today and let others enjoy the win, PLEASE.

Feels like you guys wants United to lose, either you are oppo fans or you want us to lose to get Jose sacked. Either way, tired of this negativity around here.

It wasn't a perfect game, but it was lot better. We played with a much better tempo and desire. Shouldn't forget that this is the first game of the season and many players are not full fit. We will only get better from here.

There’s no reason you can’t enjoy the win, ignore it’s ruining your buzz. Plenty of positive comments in here.

That’s what a forum is.

The first half was a poor performance and people were quite rightly calling it so. Letting Leicester dominate the ball, poor use of the ball when we did have it. We shouldn’t be conceding possession at home like that.

Second half we pressed harder, used the ball better and seemed to start to click in places. By no means brilliant, but there was potential.

As you rightly point out, there’s a good few lacking match fitness.

There’s nobody wanting United to lose. There are plenty who can’t sit by quietly and brush over the football we have played the last 5 years.

We have, or should have, an abundance of quality to control a game such as that. The first half performance was very very poor. Nobody is saying we should steamroll everyone week in week out.

There were definite positives. Pogba was excellent, and should be our permanent captain IMO. Pereira showed good maturity....both with and without the ball. Given the debate rages on about CB pairings, Lindelof and Bailly were very good, with some issues in the final few minutes, regardless excellent.

Shaw was pretty good in general even without the goal. Couple of blots giving the ball away in dangerous areas....but positive in near enough every way. The goal was excellent.

You can see there is a player in Fred that we really needed. I think him and pogba can work well.

I’ll take those as positives. There are obvious negatives we will see if we can address over the next few weeks
