I would really really love it if Shaw proved me wrong and used today as a launching pad and cements himself as our starting LB. It would be fantastic.

We won, yay. Let's forget the rest as usual.

I really, really hate this kit. I must say it again: we look like Bayer fecking Leverkusen in it. Red, black, red combo? What on earth is this?

There are some real trollers on here still. Talking about painful to watch and all, stfu man. Was lovely to watch!

So true and so glad to get a win. Lovely to see Andres and Fred get starts, Pogba keep it up please, and so happy for Luke Shaw. Onward and upward, pessimists go have a cry.

I don't know about you guys but for me Shaw was the better player on the field before his goal. i wanted him gone this summer but i think this could be his year if he is not replaced by young in the next few weeks. he need to be trusted

We look far better at getting the ball out of the defensive third when pressed. Our interplay in midfield also looked good. I was happy with the center back pairing, and Luke Shaw looked good enough defensively to claim that left back slot. We have a huge problem on our right side.Mata's lack of pace and inability to dribble, mixed with the insecurities of our right backs is a real problem. I feel Dalot may help us with this partially, but we need a solution to that right wing. Sanchez has never impressed me on the right for utd, and looked brilliant in a front two, it seems the pitch at old trafford is too big for him to operate on the flank. I would experiment with him on the right hand side or switch to a diamond formation. All in all, we looked good defensively and midfield, and were even able to look a threat on counter attacks through the middle, but we need more from our front three, they need to support the midfield much better.

Jose: "We play against a team that invested more than us".

Praised Pogba, wanted to play Martial, said he needed 6 subs.

We'll be lucky to get top four.
New season. Same weird shit. This bout to be a funny season again
Nothing seems changed from last season, I can see a long season ahead of ourselves.
Not a thing has changed. Let's hope Man City have for worse.
Really dismal, boring and shaky performance. In the end a well earned grinder 3 points. Going to be a long season as a fan watching this again, I'm pretty certain we have enough to finish in top 4.
Painful to watch. Lucky for a draw but will take the win

Are you guys for real??? Could you guys please FO for today and let others enjoy the win, PLEASE.

Feels like you guys wants United to lose, either you are oppo fans or you want us to lose to get Jose sacked. Either way, tired of this negativity around here.

It wasn't a perfect game, but it was lot better. We played with a much better tempo and desire. Shouldn't forget that this is the first game of the season and many players are not full fit. We will only get better from here.

Lots of positives amidst some shit. The win is crucial.

Pogba was imperious. We actually shouldn't have taken him off as he just looked even better the more exhausted he became. Phenomenal display. The midfield showed glimpses of brilliance but there was a lot of sloppiness - They've barely even trained together so it's expected. Pereira was excellent and very composed on the ball.

A few obvious positions where the reinforcements will help - Notably Darmian getting very far away from everything. Sanchez has one more of those performances before being dropped. That was utter dogshit and it's looking more like we've been hosed to biblical levels with this guy.

Bailly's physical talent is actually crazy. Saved us a few times but always has a reckless decision in him. You can see why Jose wanted experience next to him, alas it is what it is. Lindelof worked well enough with him and hopefully they build on that.

We played some class football at times, some great moves let down by bizarre passes/decisions and we also lost all control for large phases. The result was all that matters though and it's something to build on - There's potential in this team. Mourinho looks really up for it too, killing the media narrative. Good night's work.

2nd half was better because I thought they were slightly better 1st half

don't know you could tell much from that overall

the only thing I really thought was that we trying to break with a bit more zip at least, even if a lot of move broke down (1st half)

Sanchez at least seems like he has a definite role now, didn't get the run of the ball at times.

Thought Darmian & Mata were very poor. Sanchez also extremely wasteful in possession. Rashford (without pre season) against Maguire was never going to be easy. However, he can and should do better. Hopefully Martial will come into the team soon. DeGea, SHAW, Lindelof, Bailly, FRED,POGBA & Pereira were very good.
The head coach needs to get a little class!

Just zip it Jose....that's right. Just move on!! Feck off Shreeves!!

First game of the season. We will get better. Nice three points.

It looked like most performances from last season though and going by most comments you are all just happy with the points. We at Liverpool love this as it keeps Jose there longer. The fact Shaw scored is just fecking beautiful.

I'm not a fan of Sanchez & no one could say he had a great game tonight but I think it at least looked like there is something there.

I won’t care about the style if we actually biuld up on this. Because that was no different than last season.

Brighton away is a really good place to start and show that we are ready to fight and at least challenge.

Perreira immense, Pogba and Bailly beasts, Shaw and Lindelof good, Sanchez disaster.

All in all, under the circumstances this was a great result and good performance. There were many positives to take out of that game.

Firstly, defence looked strong and solid, apart from when Darmian got caught out a few times, partly thanks to Mata literally being inept defensively, which to be fair isn’t really his fault. Also, us Football Manager nerds are looking to be right here, Lindelöf and Bailly could really form a proper top partnership. Lindelof can be the calm and composed Rio while Bailly is the tough tackling, commanding Vidic. Shaw scored as well which will boost his confidence to attack more and in general. Oh, and needless to say De Gea was class.

Following on, i really like this midfield. As we all know, Pogba is brilliant but Fred and Pereira too bring discipline yet some extravaganza as well. The chemistry between these three and some of the feints, flicks and passes from all three players were class today.

Lastly, on to the attack. Simply put, they were not good enough. Sanchez while having one assist and definitely should have had two (Lukaku chance which he should have buried) was not good enough today. Lost the ball way too easily a lot. After that, Rashford was hardworking and had his moments of brilliance but had no end product, which sums up his entire game basically. Mata tried to create and is still very intelligent and good at passing but is clearly too slow to play RW and he too was not good enough today. And then, as said before Lukaku should have scored that chance, all day every day.

If I had to give this match a rating, I’d go as high as 8/10 as all our World Cup players, while most such as Pogba played well all had less stamina than their leicester counterparts, while some aren’t even on the bench yet.

Of course, for today its 10/10 for the fans, good atmosphere right from the start and tens of thousands of people uniting to chant Jose’s name was something I found brilliant.

Well done everyone, and now on to Brighton with fitter, more confident players. Come on United!

I'm not a fan of Sanchez & no one could say he had a great game tonight but I think it at least looked like there is something there.

He's not suited to playing on his own half way line...isnt that fast, doesnt cover ground quickly, its the complete opposite of the positions he has excelled at in his career!

We won, yay. Let's forget the rest as usual.

I really, really hate this kit. I must say it again: we look like Bayer fecking Leverkusen in it. Red, black, red combo? What on earth is this?
I actually really like the red black combo, not so sure on the lower stripes but I like the black Adidas arm stripes and black shorts

Poor first half, better in the second half.
Midfield tried to move the ball quicker than last season.
Hope the 2 central defenders can improve their understanding together and form a partnership.
Squandered some good opportunities on the counter attack.

Good to have a win but a lot more work needed on passing and keeping the ball.

Mata had a good 2nd half I thought. Completely agree about midfield. Maybe it will be better with Lukaku and Martial in attack. T

Yeah, we were gelling a bit better in the second half, mostly because the attack started linking up better.

Was very disappointed first half, but second half was much better. We played with more conviction and incision. Not perfect, but we carried that threat and a second goal felt inevitable.

Loved the Shaw goal; still struggling to process the Lukaku miss.

Bailly was probably our man of the match. If we can tune his eccentricity just a little, we have a real dominant centre back in the making.

Sanchez would be the cliched “like a new signing” if he could find his form, but he was poor tonight. One or two good moments, but he looks a husk of his former self. I want him to succeed, but fear he may be a busted flush.

Rashford meanwhile is not a centre forward. Martial is probably going to be neither a centre forward nor an inside left for the time being. Enjoy the paternity leave.

You’d think conceding late would do us good at some point, but we have an issue with complacency. We’re not good enough to drift through games.

Fairly predictable game until our back five fell asleep at the end. Good to start with a win though, I was surprised how good Pogba was given his quick turnaround from Russia and Shaw's performance and goal was nice to see. As for Leicester, my main takeaway was that Puel has a good chance of being the first PL manager to go this season.

It looked like most performances from last season though and going by most comments you are all just happy with the points. We at Liverpool love this as it keeps Jose there longer. The fact Shaw scored is just fecking beautiful.

It's far too early to judge us. Lots of our regulars are not even match fit yet and we have a few out. Not sure why you are happy with Jose being here since it's not like he's underachieved in terms of trophies / league points with the squad he has at his disposal.

Only caught the second half, but according to reports, I’m glad I did. Pogba looked sensational. I think if he didn’t have to go off we would not have conceded that goal. Sat deeper and deeper. So happy for luke shaw! I think he has to keep the spot for his fitness alone. Pereira looked really good on the ball, so good at keeping possession. Fred will need some time to adapt.

Overall, some good positives with Lukaku to get back to full fitness, Valencia or Dalot on that RB position to come. I’m hopeful its not going to be anywhere near the doom and gloom some people were forecasting.

Young lad on Sky now, Madison, great game and good interview, better than the usual shit media trained tat we get.

Can't believe the stick Sanchez gets. He is looking to create all the time but the rest are just not with him. One example I remember from the game: where he picks the ball up in midfield rides the tackle and then sends a perfectly weighted pass to Mata on the right. Mata with all the time in the world floats in a feeble cross and nothing comes of it.

A lot better than what? Only rashford and pogba were not match fit. Rashford still had 2 games. I think I was fairly positive as a whole though. I still think we have enough to get top, i just think the brand of football will continue to be absolutely draining and dull. Sayimg that, results come first hence I said a well grinded win which is what is was.

De Gea - A couple of good saves, distribution a bit shaky. Still world best in my eyes.

Darmian - effort was there but don't think he will ever be
Lindelof - good player to have but don't like the trio of him De Ge and Bailey as we are vulnerable to crosses as none are great at dealing with crosses.
Bailly - physically dominated the Leicester front line, I believe he'll cut out the errors after a long run in the team. alough we may have to tolerate more mistakes in the mean time I belivie he's worth the patience
Shaw - Hopefull can build on this and make the position his own, great work rate today always offered himself for the ball and like Bailey I believe we'll have to tolerate several errors untill he's use to play in 90 mins at this intensity but I hope we give him them and allow him to come good if he continues to match this effort.

Pereira - very tidy player, will be a good addition to the squad this year especially when we come against team who press hard
Pogba- Hope he keeps the captaincy, penetrated with his passing and was dominant Airedale in our own box. Best midfielder in the world if he wants to be, it's up to Jose to get the best out of him.
Fred- impres seven start, looks to suit the English game very well. Constantly looked to inject tempo I to a player and is going to get better as he gets on the same wavelength as his team-mates. Think he will be a big success here

Mata - lack of pace exposed at times going back wards but opened them up towards the end, wouldn't start him in the right often but like him in the no10 if we play 2 in the middle
Sanchez - jackal and Hyde performance, lossed the ball to easily too often but created several chances and should have had an assist. I seem to be in the minority of thinking he did well.
Rashford- still looks far to raw to start for me should be an impact player, can't fault his work rate but never seems in control when he's dribbling and always seems to read the game a second slower than everyone around him

Lukaku- obviously still rusty should have scored, took the ball well on his chest a few times.
Mctominay- didn't do much wrong but I don't think he will be good enough to make it here considering we have 6 centre midfielders better than him, could be a solid premiership player at another club.
Fellani- good option to have on the bench, I'm glad he stayed.
