Leicester City 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

We need to be more urgent in the final 3rd. We lack urgency and quality. Darmian was dreadful. In the 3-5-2 formation the wing-backs are play a vital role in the offensive game. He received the ball so many times and did nothing at all. Very wasteful.

Young wasn't good either but he at least improved after the break. Rooney was awful. Carrick pretty poor and Mata was quiet again, which was no surprise to me.

We were better when Rooney came off. He needs to be dropped for the next game. It was an decent point considering injuries, the midweek game & Leicester's form but I feel we still should have won that it was there for us.

For all the possession we failed to create much from open play and that was the main worry for me.

Our attacking players are poor. That has a little to do with tactics but it also has to do with quality. Darmian and Young had loads of space a million times but nothing happened--capitalising on that space is what makes a team look good attacking-wise.

Martial was a one-man attack while Mata was invisible and Rooney was a one-man attack wrecking machine. Depay did ok.

Carrick had the best penetrative passes of our players and also some alarmingly bad passes, and shambolic defending for one of their counter attacks. Schweini was a threat but too safe with his passing.
Ironically two of our better attacking moments came from Darmian's passes - Rooney's awful flick to a free Mata and Depay's chance.

Smalling was a rock, miles above the rest. Blind was ok, McNair repeatedly poor.

Also, it could have been simply due to tiredness but we completely dominated once Rooney went off and we stopped messing up easy passes. We didn't attack any better but Leicester were completely asphyxiated.

With quality in the wide areas we would have won this very comfortably.

The two shots on target came from Bastian's goal and Rooney's very stupid and weak volley. Yay !!!

Rooney's shot wasn't even on target :p, the other one was the other Bastian header.

boring, possession football with little penetration. It is fair to point out though we looked more dangerous with Rooney off. Van Gaal needs to grow a pair and drop him.

Dreadful first half and stupid goal. Basti saved us and the second half was better. If we let Wolfsburg counter like today we are done. Rooney reached an all time poor performance. He needs to be dropped for a month and Depay should be allowed a run with Mata at 10. There were good signs today once Rooney was subbed.

We were a lot better than them overall but they had better players in certain positions which evened it up. Namely:

Vardy > Rooney
Mahrez > Mata
Their fullbacks > Our fullbacks

As with the PSV match the game was there for the taking if we'd wanted it enough. Dissapointing, Leicester offered nothing after their goal.

I was looking at the player ratings in the MEN, most are right, maybe a bit generous. However they gave Ashley Young 7. That surely is over generous.

The one good thing about this match is that it fully exposed rooney.

We are better without him, LVG has a decision to make.

Soul destroying to watch, I was so numb by the time Schweini equalized that it took me a moment to react. Rooney and Mata are a disgrace as the 2 senior attackers, no ambition, no drive and no use to our inexperienced youngsters.
In the last 15 minutes Schweini was the only one with any real drive and spirit.

The fact Mahrez and Vardy have scored more between them than our entire team says it all.

But I imagine the whole country and 95% on here look at Arsenal who create for fun and pass in behind for fun as an example? 2 points behind us. Or City who have a superior team and then some....hardly leaving us behind.

I don't think Van Gaal has the same opinion. After the match he even said that he was going to take Martial off, but Rooney picked up a knock and that's why he was subbed off.

We are one of the worst teams to watch in the league, I don't care if at this stage of the season we are 2 points ahead of Arsenal who play tomorrow, or any other stat you care to use. We are producing sleep inducing shite week after week and the fact Leicester are currently ahead of us tells you how much our current position in the league is worth bragging about.

Positives: Rooney was subbed off and Fellaini didn't come on.

Rooney, Carrack and Darmian was utter shit. Mata was invisible for the first ~65 minutes. Smalling was incredible.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we played against fecking Huth, and we didn't challenge him once with a proper deep ball. The man has the turning radius of a super tanker and about the same acceleration, but we didn't even once try to get him out of his comfort zone. It's frustrating as feck to watch us play the ball around for 100 passes and getting nowhere, while the opposition gets the ball and has a shot on goal within five shots - and it happens every week. The tactical approach seems way too cautious and too many players are simply under-preforming (some every week and others in turn).

True. Maybe those stats aren't reliable at all.
Re-check in a couple of hours or on Monday. Another pair of analysts goes through the match within 24 hours and adjusts all events on the pitch, including the number and outcome of shots. Depending on the website, it sometimes needs a couple of days to see those changes on websites.

Stats wise I imagine they would be above afew SAF teams as well at this stage?

He's lying mate. Rooney looked confused and even asked why he was subbed.

We were ok. Kept the ball well and got into decent positions, but weren't able to create any clear cut chances. Not sure I would have played a 352, but it wasn't that bad as I though it would be. We just need to find a way to create more chances.

Positive note was Blind's crosses. We don't often score from set pieces, but today it looked like we were going to score from all of them. He whipped in some great crosses, which will be s great weapon to have if/when we can't score in open play.

I do think the game would have been different if we scored first. Would have meant we could have possibly sat back a bit and played Leicester at their own game. Unfortunately we didn't, but Leicester are a good team and they're second in the league because they've been doing really well this season.

No they have to score a winner. Shots on target are a waste of energy if its not a goal. If we had another 5 on target and didnt take them it would only shift the blame to taking our chances......ZZzzzzz
At least if they get them on target something might actually go in. I know what you are getting at. If they keep firing stuff high and wide etc then they won't score. We can't keep relying on set pieces.

We have lost that extra desire to win games, it seems that way anyway. We hardly create any goal scoring chances, its so frustrating to watch. Was Darmian's shot at the end our first attempt from out side the box?

Things aren't right that's for sure, it doesn't help having a combination of out of form attackers and inconsistent young ones too. The senior players like Young Carrick and Rooney were well below the expected standard today. We don't have a single in form attacker, someone who is a real threat. Martial is the closest we have to that but its not enough.

Well actually for every one of those chances you don't take you give your opponent the chance to counter! So no its not better. A team that can take 95% of all chances is the holy grail regardless.....no one bar Arsenal has had any joy against us on that regard and that was an error in formation he won't repeat. We can win the league like this!

It's like watching something die in front of you watching the shit we are serving up. The only stat worth bragging about is the position at the end of the season, not in November. Truth be told I could give a shit if we win the league playing like this every week, it's soulless garbage.

Well trust me every other team's fans would take any league win. Our first League win after SAF is all important. I dont care how we do it. Next summer the new money comes into the league. If you are top and win the league you will be first in line for the best players if you are Man United! Thats all that counts. Dicking around wanting Brazil football regardless of results is laughable right now for a team that finished 7th and 4th!

I've seen 11 league title wins in my lifetime, winning them wasn't my greatest joy as a fan, it was the entertainment the teams under SAF provided me, right now I'd settle for seeing some good football, I am not desperate for another title that I'd want to sit through this crap each week, if you are that's fair enough.

I only watched the first half, as right after Bastian scored my GF warned me that I'd do well to not waste another hour watching (I was watching the recording), and I'm glad she did.

This team just isn't fun to watch anymore.
