That being said, the less said about the 70 minutes before the goal the better. One of the worst games of football I've seen up to that point in recent times.

Neither Casemiro or Eriksen out isn't the issue. The issue we've had in these 2 games vs leeds is moreso the ineffectiveness of Fred's positioning and defensive capabilities. They easily won the midfield battle again.

ETH tried to change things up against Leeds' aggressive press by using Malacia. He thought that Malacia coming into midfield to create more of a box would help our cause in getting the ball through the middle. Unfortunately, even with that advantage this didn't work at all due to how poor the positioning was in midfield today. To make matters worse, Malacia coming in centrally meant that we couldn't move the ball through the flanks like we did on wednesday, completely knocking Sancho and Rashford out of the game.

Another reason the system didn't work today was Maguire. As stated before, Leeds were playing an aggressive front 3. In order to get past them, we needed to move the ball quickly. Even if that meant playing it more directly, this still needed to occur. Maguire was taking far too much time on the ball. A lot of time which he was doing absolutely nothing with. He was creating the tension that forced multiple giveaways defensively. He also had a lot of mistakes passing the ball as well. Particularly as he was the centre of the 3 when playing out, his play on the ball really affected our composure today. Martinez coming in provided a proper outlet out of the back with composure. What's worse imo is this was not due to not having passing options, Maguire doesn't like making that pass into the middle and it showed today. Even when Sabitzer dropped deeper on his right side, his need to shift the ball left consistently narrowed the pitch for us. This was always going to be a difficult game without Casemiro or Eriksen, but it would have been far more comfortable without Maguire

Not a great game or performance but one that might set us up well going forward. Rashford getting on the end of a cross is nice to see, the kind of goal that will really add to his game. Not impressed with Weghorst but thought that end to the game was his best performance since joining and shows some potential. Sabitzer getting 90 mins. Dalot, Sancho getting a game under their belt. Solid game from lots of squad players and 3 points away against a team desperate to give us a (second) bloody nose

Excellent win. It was a really tough game and were poor for most of the game. But we pulled through in the end, thanks to a great spirit and a bit of quality when we needed it.

Thought Weghorst was a little unlucky to get his goal ruled out, there was an angle where it looked as if the ball rebounded off the defenders arm and not Maguire. Luckily it didn’t cost us today.

Masterful management from ETH. Does anyone else have the feeling that he anticipated the whole game and planned it that way? I know it's a little crazy. He wanted it tight the first 60 minutes and then his subs were all planned, the goals were planned, and it all worked to perfection.

I don't want to play Leeds again unless we have our first choice midfield.

Very good analysis. And imo both Sabitzer and Fred were poor today. Imo Sabitzer was even worse than Fred. At least you could see Fred when we defended. Sabitzer basically lost all his duels and didn't make a single good pass forward. Our midfield was literally non existent especially when it comes to keep and progress the ball or create chances. Bruno was heavily marked and tackled out of the game. This forced us to go long balls without any real target for the first 60' until Martinez came in and changed the game.

Not quite the comfortable two goal win I expected but it was a two goal win all the same and that's what matters. God it was awful for 80 minutes and I thought Ole was back. Fair play to them though. They gave us a lot more problems than I expected thinking Wednesday would've been a one off. Erik Eriked though and class told. Seven point gap to fifth now which is great to see.

Ultimately you have to say they played pretty well in the two fixtures. Certainly raised their level, although I'm not convinced they were playing that poorly under Marsch. They're kinda good apart from in both boxes and that's why they're a relegation candidate, but it's not because they're a pushover.

Today was an old fashioned away scrap. We weren't great but defended well enough and battled well enough to give ourselves a chance and then we've always got a likelihood of scoring.

It was scrappy. Leeds away, with players looking to impress an incoming manager and fighting against relagation was always going to be a slog.

Leeds pressed really well, and were very determined in the tackle, but we did not give in and loved seeing a few feck you tackles from our players.

You have to give Leeds some credit for making it so difficult for us.

Having said that, Leeds fans can get absolutely fecked.

The Martinez sub, along with Weghorst moving into an 8-10 role really changed the game. I think EtH really likes the idea of putting Rashford through the middle late in matches.

Wonderful cross-pitch ball by Sabitzer for our first goal. I think him and Casemiro are going to be class together.

Wonderful result considering other results around the league.

Bad performance for most of the game, many mistakes in defense, horrible passing and build up and non existent pressing. We were terrible but we won, at end that's what matters the most.
Rashford in the middle and Garnacho on the left were very good moves that made us raise our game in the last 15 minutes.

My thoughts

De Gea - some good saves but his kicking was very poor yet again
Dalot - way off the pace, good shot but the rest was quite poor
Maguire - passing was poor and a couple of howlers but solid otherwise
Shaw - as a CB was poor, much better at LB, good cross for Rashford
Malacia - mixed, dived in a bit too much, never gives up
Fernandes - mixed, should have scored
Sabitzer - good performance
Fred - average in first half, excellent in second
Sancho - not ready to start yet, seemed a bit hesitant and lacking confidence
Rashford - quiet game but did the business when needed
Weghorst - poor until he moved to the 10 position
Garnacho - excellent cameo, why he's best used this way at the moment
Martinez - excellent as usual
Wan-Bissaka - did OK
Elanga - not on long rnough to have any impact

One thing I noticed, the pitch was very slow and that seemed to affect us, especially in the first half

A great win for United against a rival. It's nice that Rashford has finally added potent headers to his attacking armoury. I remember he scored two headers against the gunners on his league debut. He just needs to do it consistently, he could become unstoppable when combined with his other great attacking attributes.

Weghorst has been getting some sticks from our fan base of recent, due to his lack of attacking threat. I think he did well today, he contributed a lot defensively, clearing some balls in our box; and his general play was decent, also had an assist. We shouldn't expect many goals from him, that would more likely be a bonus.

Maguire played some slopy passes, although it seems harsh to single him out because the whole team was doing that in the first half. However, he continued playing like that in the second. He needs to get himself up to speed.
