PL D FA Premier League

Everton 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

As soon as Chelsea drew the game yesterday, I knew we would drop points - we simply don’t want Champions League football next season!!!

Really poor second half and unfortunately we still had work to do at that point due to yet another untimely howler from our keeper.

Referee shit his pants every time he heard their fans which didn't help us.

I don't know why we never have any of our players standing on the edge of the area picking up bits and pieces. Just invites pressure.

Knew this was going to be tough and we grabbed a vital point in my opinion. Spurs beaten as well so today could have been a lot worse.

Bruno will soon start singing that famous Hollies song to Ole.

Worse goal difference. What does it matter if they have the same points as long as we are ahead
Matters a lot actually, they're going to be up there competing with Spurs for top 5. So yes it's backwards. It's more 2 points lost, than a 1 point gained.

Why do these feckers always raise their game against us. Completely useless against other top teams but when it comes to us they'll play that extra 10%. First half was fantastic. Second half we defending well but ultimately poor.

Really strange, it looked like we were defending a lead against a superior team.

We did well between the two goals I suppose.

We lacked bottle to go for the win

We aren’t good enough in attack

The reality is that Martial doesn’t do enough when you need him to and Greenwood is raw

We are in the same position as the last three years, ridiculously over reliant on the brilliance of one player instead of being a good cohesive attacking unit

Actually, it's not a bad game. If we had a better striker, it's should be great.

Draw was probably fair. We're just not proactive enough.

We're level on points with Wolves. Sheffield if they win their game in hand go above us.

Massive opportunity to close in on Chelsea squandered.

We play City next, won't hold my breath for that one.

Also that performance by Kavanagh has to be amongst the worst refereeing performances I've seen in the PL for a long time. What a shite set of refs we have in this country.

I get the frustrations but that second half seemed typical of a team that has played Europa League the Thursday before.

In an ideal world some of those shots such as the one that hit the post and some that Pickford made great saves from, and no De Get error, we'd have been comfortably up in the first half. As we wasn't we were easy picking in a tired second half.

I actually thought for the first time this season we defending the corners excellently. They had some many and they are very good at them.

I hope we can rest a few key players in the FA cup and have more energy against City.

Top 4 is still in our hands and I expect us to be able to push on.

A draw away to an inform Everton is never a bad result. Big results needed against the next two, they will make or break our ability to get top 4.

Great to see some good patterns of play again in the first half, the subs were probably made too late again and that is one thing Ole can be criticised for.

Bruno is cut above the rest. He just makes things happen. Without him we probably get demoralized and lose this game 4:0. Amazing player.

With that said we have too many useless players.

Martial is useless, he just occasionally does something nice but generally a useless player, cant wait for Rashford to come back.
Wan Bissaka is currently useless too, needs more time.
Shaw is useless as a left back. Williams should always start.
Lindeloff sure as heck doesnt make you feel safe as a CB. Baily should always start.

Poor second half. Fred completely dropped off. Bruno quite wasteful. Lost all control of the midfield, and we were so on top until Everton turned it into a dogfight and the referee didn’t respond. Definitely felt like a tough point earned rather than two dropped.

An acceptable weekend with Chelsea dropping points at Bournemouth, and Spurs losing. Wolves and Sheffield United will have to be seen off, but if you lose out on fourth to either of them, then you don’t deserve it anyway.

We played really we first half and should have gone in ahead. Matic was superb along with Bruno. 2nd half we looked tired maybe all these quick games caught up with us but we definitely faded. Harry Maguire was a rock 2nd half. They had corner after corner and he cleared all but one which was Lindelof. Overall a fair result. VAR decision on offside goal was correct. He was lay right in front of the keeper And in his way.

Very good performance until our rhythm was disrupted by the referee losing control and allowing Everton to break up play with fouls, fights etc. After that it was just a game of attrition.

Poor second half. We need to strengthen our threat from wide areas. Today we had a striker and an attacking midfielder playing in an attacking trio in wide area

Very disappointed felt we should of done much better, don’t know where we go from here with that result

Greenwood's movement was great first half. Martial his usual lazy self. There was one where Bruno played a brilliant ball and he hadn't even started moving until after it was played. No desire.

Maybe it was more a case of Greenwood lacking physicality or just the fact that he is so young, but I felt the game passed him by.

He has time on his side though and is still so young in terms of professional minutes.

The players were affected by the rubbish gamecalling by the Ref.
Countless decisions were going their way, stopping us from establishing our mark on the match.
It doesn't help that once McT went off, we lost control of the midfield. Fred lost his head after the yellow card.

Kudos to the defense and excellent set-piece defending.
It's a marked improvement compared to what we were seeing earlier this eason.

Lucky to get a draw. If we can play like we did in the first half, we could have won. What happened in the 2nd?

Nah, that is shite. You were better in the first half and dominated the midfield as I expected and the ref was giving silly yellows to you for no reason which was unfair but we were much better in the 2nd half. Maguire was excellent in organising your defence and showed signs of the leadership he was expected to bring but you were really poor going forward in the latter stages aside from Fernandes who is going to be brilliant for you.

I'd wager most of you would be livid if the goal at the end got disallowed for you. There is no way that De Gea would have time to react if Gylfi wasn't there. He didn't need to adjust because of him and he could see over him so there was no obstruction to De Gea. He followed the path of the ball from when DCL hit it and from when it deflected from Maguire. It was just one of those goals that was very lucky and left a keeper with no chance to react. With or without Gylfi being there. Obviously I will be a bit biased but it was a poor choice to disallow it.

The ref didn't have great control on the game either and I'm interested to hear what Carlo said to him. Don't like to abuse them but good on Carlo for sticking up for a poor decision.

for what its worth after the replay i thought it was a goal.

Terrible ref, terrible second half and half a team on their heels. The diamond formation will never work if both strikers have bad games like today. Another wanted opportunity to catch Chelsea, what is that now, 9 games where Chelsea draw or lose and we fail to win?

Not the greatest second half in the world but thought we defended brilliantly especially Maguire in dealing with corner after corner. Not sure what happened to the midfield or attack in the 2nd half but a draw is probably a fair result and I'll take it

I thought our tactics were wrong from the start. Way to narrow. Martial and greenwood out wide without someone spearheading is wasteful. Should have had Ighalo from the start. This front two being wise didn’t work at all. I put this one to Ole. Don’t think Diamond is for us cause our fullbacks aren’t tricky.

Only problem is that Igahlo might not have been fit enough to play 90 minutes.

Correct me if im wrong, but if its deflected off your own player, then offside is basically a non factor is it not? I'm sure that has always been the rule?

No mate, it's from whenever it last touches an opposition player. So in this case when he took the shot. The deflection doesn't matter. It would have only been not offside if the Utd player had trapped the ball and then passed it into his own net.

DDG brainfart aside, that's another super defensive performance. Midfield looked a bit confused in the second half, nobody seemed certain exactly what position they were supposed to be playing.

Very promising first half though and could have won/lost it late on. I said 7 points from the next four would leave us in a strong enough position so I'm not overly disappointed.

Would've likely taken a draw at Goodison before kick-off as our record here in recent times must be fairly poor.

Good response after the mistake from DDG,must be said , but we really should've capitalised on our dominance.

Calvert Lewin comments at the end say it all about us and where we are, mid table teams believe they should be getting wins against us, not a point.

If anyone makes a good offer, I would sell and put Henderson as no.1. Unacceptable gift to Everton. We would have won comfortably scoring a couple in the 1st half. Martial isn't a striker, put him on the left and play Iglaho. He is a proper striker taking good position whereas Martial isn't a threat is the 6 yard.

we are poor and poorly coached. williams for martial with a few minutes to go should end any debate about whether ole is an attacking manager.

I'm sure I missed something. I still cannot work out why we would make that sub at that point in the game, especially when we have a corner. You'd think that you'd want your striker on the pitch for a corner with minutes to go.

Agree with everyone who says we didn't kick on after that first half, yes I know it won't be a popular opinion but a decent point after going behind.

Shite in-game management by Ole. Can not read the game live, does not react on time, puts Mata in when it is leather for leather. Let him see the season out while looking for a replacement in the meantime.

Ref completely ruined that game. Absolute trash, who was he? And how did he get to Premier League level?

And De Gea, WTF is wrong with the bloke?

That was so exhausting to watch, in the end I think we can be grateful to get a point. It’s a game we could have won, we can lament David’s horror error at the start of the game or Pickford making two great saves in succession against Bruno and Ighalo, it was a bright performance for the first hour or so. But after that we maybe tired and Everton just physically overwhelmed us for the last period of game. It was nail biting watching corner after corner being thrown at us along with some free kicks from great positions, Maguire was awesome defensively today.

VAR call was lucky, it was the right call, Sigurrdson is obstructing De Gea’s view so it’s an infringement but it was a call that the officials didn’t have to make.

Far cry from the capitulation of last season and we should take it as a positive. We fought hard despite how difficult the game became. Still loads of work to be done though.
