PL W FA Premier League

Everton 0:3 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sat, 17 October 2015

I missed the match but my friend who is an Everton season ticket holder said that United were the best team he's seen at Goodison this season.

I wouldn't expect anything different from a Liverpool fan. The Times is utter shit these days. Murdoch rag.
Wait a second - is that headline real?

Brilliant performance. Went to a tough away fixture against a good side after a disappointing loss and won well and looked good doing it as well.

Our defence was very good but Schneiderlin played a part in that. Martial again looked like one of our most talented players.

If I was to suggest what lessons we can take from this it would be:
1. Schneiderlin is crucial for us. He allows Schweinsteiger(/Carrick) to play better and shields the defence so he should start in the most important games.
2. Herrera is another player who should start. He compliments the others well and I've suggested him as a 10 before in different selections as I do believe we can't rely on Rooney anymore and he does help connect the midfield and forwards.

As good as Herrera was today (and he was excellent), I can't believe Smalling isn't MotM up there today. First time I've ever given a 10/10 on the Caf - he gave a simply faultless centre back performance.

Ignore them. United have been mediocre for the last 10 years according to some of them. Just will make their surprise and shock when we eventually win the league again all the more enjoyable.

Or look at it as a positive: we're judged to a higher standard than every other team in the country so therefore: biggest club in the country and they know it.

Like what you've said here. Dirty feckers those journalists!

If that's real it's ridiculous...

Smith has been featured a lot in "The Anfield Wrap" so I assume he's a Liverpool fan. Either way, The Times used to have some bloody good football writers but, like the Telegraph I suppose they're just using headlines like this for clickbait. I stopped buying it when Murdoch bought it. I miss the crossword but the one in the Guardian isn't bad.

Listening questions about Terry,Rooney etc in post match interviews, the way how they force managers to say anything positive, hell they would take it even if its made up,just so we dont forget that they exist...

Guess not everyone saw the game as most of us did.

This is incredible. Probably our best performance of the season and definitely our best away performance.

Fantastic team performance. Tactics were spot on and an excellent response to the Arsenal defeat.

Matt le Tiss praised us on Sky Sports, was very impressed with us and that we controlled the game.

Best performance in a long long time. Can't fault anyone, if anything it should of been more!

Yep I completely agree with you, I gave him a 9/10 and thought he was head and shoulders our best player today. Absolutely no doubt in my mind that he's the best CB in the league by a mile on this form, absolutely brilliant.

On the channel I watch here in Singapore, that City fecker Don Hutchinson has been sliding off his seat with the excitement of abusing us all season.

Even he had nothing but praise this afternoon

Herrera was brilliant and some others were very good, but Smalling was my first 10/10 this season, at the moment he is absolutely someone we could'nt replace.

was at my other team's game today, but was shocked when I saw the goals going in! Thought this was going to be a real tough one.

Like others have said real positives. Jones back with a strong performance helps immeasurably. As good as Blind has been, Smalling-Jones is the power combo.

Can't remember the last time we have been that dominant at Goodison Park, but I really loved it.

The tactics were spot on with Schmidfield in front of the defenders and Herrera acting as the number 10 like a boss. That 3-man midfield has to play in every away match in order to keep that balance. Also, I was happy to see Anthony Martial doing well from the left wing; he really can do a job there in case our other left wingers are either injured or in poor form.

Smalling and Jones were also a joy to watch together, and I say that as someone who has been very critical of both in the past. Like others already said, Smalling had a flawless performance today. May those two keep on going like that.

Maturity. Balance. Creativity. Brains.

These are the signs of a great team in the making. They might have a throwback here and there but there's just so much untapped potential in this group. Exciting times ahead. Everton were snuffed out, completely outthought and outplayed. This lot is starting to look like United proper, the sort of team nobody is looking forward to play against.

Quality-wise the difference with the Spurs-Liverpool match was just night and day.

Didn't see that coming!

Smalling amazing again!
The 3 man midfield everyone wanted
Herrera just fantastic
Martial excellent even tho wide left.

I'd like to switch Martial and Rooney as Rooney really does do well helping out the fullback even tho that's not what he wants to be doing but Martial is simply better upfront and the future of our club in that position... I suppose Martial does offer us that pace from wide left though so maybe I could handle him there for a while.

Memphis. The guy has got a great future with us. Hopefully he works his arse off in training now to get back in the team and to perform at a very high standard that we know he will in future.

Again what an amazing performance and result at one of our toughest games every year

Yeah, who would've thought that after he got sent off against City? I hope he keeps progressing.

Smalling was good but people giving him 10/10 is a bit excessive. He was up against Lukaku not Messi, and they only put us under any pressure for about 15 minutes in the entire game.

So is LVG still the problem? I get confused how that seems to be the consensus when we play crap...

3-0 win at Goodison, well done. I had million other things going on and had trouble watching the game but Herrera and Smalling especially were great. Almost a perfect performance from all of our team. That I haf said.

I think our defence has shown we are fine with your typical 9s like Lakaku, Benteke and Kane but the smaller faster strikers like Aguero and Theo even cause most issues....but then not sure a defensive line that can deal with both exists.....
