Good, solid and professional performance.

First half i thought Herrera was very poor as was Januzaj, credit to LVG though, changing Januzaj for Schweini allowed Herrera to move into the attacking 4 and he looked so much better.

Rooneys movement was superb and his finishing was good too, hopefully he will kick on, especially as his understanding with Memphis looks like it's improving every week. Hernandez is so low on confidence it's unreal and based on that look between LVG and Sir Ryan I think that could have been his last game for us.

I'm happy with what i saw from us tonight, 4 goals and another clean sheet. can't complain.

Like a boss performance and all in LVGs style.

Loved the interplay between midfield and Rooney and the cris crossing of the front four.

Will have provided huge confidence.

5 games in, unbeaten, 7 points and empathically into Champions League. A near perfect start to the season by LVG - deserves our thanks and credit.

After all our attacking I forgot we got a clean sheet too.

Tad lucky to get it though, a better forward would have scored 2 or so goals against us. Romero did well to stop that once chance where the Brugge player dwindled far too long on the ball.

Second away win of the season, how long did it take last season to manage that?

Was a bit anxious knowing how we, sometimes, can sit back and invite pressure. Very pleased with the tempo and movement, some of those counter-attacks were old-school United ones.

Good to be back. :)

Good performance. Although given the state of the opposition, I don't want to get too carried away. We need to perform similarly in the league.

Wouldn't base too much on the 2nd half. At the start there was open space as they were pushing and then they almost gave up.
It would have boosted the confidence, after Saturday it was just what the doctor ordered. Rooney gets scoring and Herrera's confidence will have had a massive boost.

Steward attempted to tackle a pitch invader and he slipped while trying to do it.

Our fans chanted 'are you Gerrard in disguise'.

that's the thing I actually like the most from what Van Gaal has brought to United so far, playing from the back. Under Fergie we managed two or three passes and then hoof the ball, often losing possession, now we are teasing our opponent and ca really handle the ball, sometimes it's too slow and sometimes it's too risky but I like that and we should be doing it, every top team does that, we cna' hoof unless we have big guys like Fellaini up front.. but I guess next year with Kane and Fellaini in great form we will play it more straight forward..

Good performance, really like Herrera in an advanced midfield role, makes a big difference to us. Shaw & Darmian where fantastic again & thought Rooney looked sharp. Chicharito was disappointing, not just with the penalty but overall. If he wasnt good enough last season when he was loaned out why is faith being put in him now to be our main back up striker?

I admit it.:lol: I did say he shouldn't to give him the minutes, wasn't expecting him to move him forward.

Yup, bit annoying here the commentators rambling on about his yellow. As if players who've been carded early on have never gone on to survive the game.

Cheers:
  • Champions league football
  • Champions league football
  • Rooney and Herrera redemptions
Jeers:
  • Herrera's first half as a #8
  • Adnan off the pace
  • No redemption for Chicha

Rooney was brilliant, hopefully the real Rooney is back.

Herrera showed again why he should start.

On the other side, Januzaj and especially Hernandez were poor.

We played some slick stuff in the 2nd half, obviously Brugge are a Championship level side but the goals will have done Rooney good and some of the link up from the front 4 in the second half was really crisp with some excellent movement.

The key was the change, Herrera struggled in the deeper role and our CB's were ran on more than they've been in any game so far this season. When we moved Ander to the AM spot and brought Schweini on we looked much better. The back 4 to their credit, even with the extra pressure due to less protection, performed excellently, I love the way all 4 can sweep across and cover each other.

Need to see this type of performance in a PL game though before anyone gets carried away.

LvG's eyes bugging! :nervous:

Massively excited for the draw tomorrow. So glad we're back in the CL.

Anyway, good game tonight, especially in the second half. Think in the first half, we were a bit too slow again. This hugely came down to the imbalance in midfield. Again, there was a massive gap between midfield and attack. Januzaj, who is not a number 10, in my opinion, was anonymous. I think this could be down to the tactics of Van Gaal, but it doesn't work.

In the second half, Herrera replaced Januzaj as the 10, and this is when the game changed, in my opinion. Granted, Brugge were very open, there just seemed to be a better balance to our game. We kept the ball a lot better, played at a quick tempo (apart from when we killed the game), created chances, looked really good on the counter and ultimately scored goals.

Positives:

Rooney hat trick
Another clean sheet
Qualifying for the CL
Herrera bagging a goal

Christ, it's good to be back in the CL. Natural order restored.

Huge lift for Rooney too. Sad to see Hernandez waste his chance to keep the competition even half alive.

So what did we learn? Well...

1. Rooney may be back? After his first he really relaxed and started to play with a bit of enjoyment.
2. When we play with pace we do look a threat. We have the players in the side who can move the ball with pace.
3. Smalling is a beast. Seems determined every game to keep a clean sheet no matter where he has to sniff out the danger.
4. Blinds distribution from the back at times is a great platform for us to build attacks. I'd just like him to put more pace on his passes more often.
5. Memphis again showed what he can do with a bit of space.
6. Romero actually gives me the hebby jebbies... He's dodgy! Lots of clean sheets but not really down to him.
7. Herrera should start! He brings energy and creativity and pace. He gets forward from midfield and brings tempo. LVG needs to find a way to get him in the team!

8. LVG has one hell of a death stare!

It was a very good performance and going forwards was much much better. But it was Brugge who aren't a great team. What we showed tonight was when teams come out to play we can hurt them. I expect Swansea to do just that this weekend which should help us.

6. Romero had some great saves tonight, I do not think he is as bad as you make him look, he too is responsible for that clean sheet.
7. Only as #10, he was dreadful as a CM next to Carrick, a real liability. However as a #10 he is the best we currently have.

The one on one was a very good save but his distribution (maybe the biggest factor for our keepers) it's dreadful!

Don't forget first half he would have been a bit rusty. But yeah I agree he's our best option at number 10. In fact... He's a brilliant option in that free role.

Read that earlier about the clean sheets not being down to him but, he pulled off some good saves at the end of the Spurs game, made a good save today when the guy was clean through and should definitely have been a goal. Defense has been better but, he's been called on to preserve these clean sheets.

No white text?

Its not dreadful. He was good tonight. He is not a beast who dominates the area, but neither was De Gea at the start

Can't quite believe we did it with no drama, that's just not the United way, gotta to say I liked it though.

The implications of that match were huge, £50 million + into the club, and no looming £20 million + penalty for missing out on the CL for two years running.

A nice draw tomorrow will be the icing on the cake.
