Chelsea 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I don't understand how McTominay can come into a game mentally and physically fresh, and still commit a mistake like that.

That being said, I thought we were excellent at times in the first half, other than our finishing. Rashford and Antony should've put us at least a goal ahead.

Also, Sancho is hopelessly out of form and confidence. Won't be surprised to see him dropped. I reckon he made at least 3 unforced errors with his passing.

We literally do everything well now besides the final shot on goal. It’s maddening but feels much more fixable than we have been in years.

Fair result…I’d argue Chelsea’s offence is actually worse than ours right now which is saying something. They are insanely soft.

Thought we'd lost that. Great character to get the draw at the end, you have to be happy with that.

Losing Varane and losing the game would've been really harsh on us.

I loved how we played that 1st half, we rarely ever dominate our rivals at their ground so that was funny. 2nd half was even with Chelsea having more of the ball but not really creating anything.

2 of 4 subs were at fault for Chelsea's goal today - Elanga giving away so cheap at their end, allowing them to counter attack and have that corner afterwards. Then McTominay at main fault with that stupid and reckless foul.

Let's rest most of them vs Sheriff now and get ready for West Ham in PL.

Casemiro is such a great signing.

We have been crying out for a midfielder like him. So glad we got him and Eriksen now.

If we can add FDJ to the mix...

Desperate for a competent striker, I'm afraid with Rashford, Elanga, Ronaldo up front we are not scoring many goals. Martial is a crock and cannot be relied on for 2 games!

Can see top 4 going on the fact that we miss so many presentable chances and then have brain fart moments like today.

I feel that cameo from McTom should seal his fate!

We should have buried them in the first half when we were well on top, but a good result nonetheless.

STRIKER STRIKER STRIKER

We need a fecking striker. This is not sustainable.

Rest all is perfectly alright.
Not just striker. We also need our LW functioning again. But yeah of course we need a CF.

Have you watched us in the last few years? That's the 2nd time in a week that we were clearly the better team against a top 6 opponent. Something we haven't seen for years. Sometimes we got results but we never dominated the ball like we die 90 against spurs and in periods today. Chelsea created absolutely nothing and then got a penalty out of nowhere. We look solid as feck and the only thing missing right now is a really good striker with good hold-up.

Again a very good game and the improvement is easy to see. But the Varane injury will really hurt us, such a shame. Such a brilliant defender. Seeing him that devastated was really painful.

I agree, I'm comparing today's performance to the Spurs game only, of course I can see the improvements and I hoped that today we carried on the momentum from the Spurs game, but yes, you are right we are missing a striker

Played well first half but the players really let themselves down the second. Just can’t understand why the passing and pressing went to crap in the 2nd.
Because we run out of gas. We were running like mad just two days ago.

On a different note, didn't know Stam speaks so good English. Fluent, no accent and strong command.

How awful was Sancho, has to be mentioned. He’s a problem at the moment, should probably come out of the team on merit.
As soon as Martial will be back, he’ll be on the bench.

our problem is we have no good players on the bench. Our first 11 with Martial is good. Then we have no other attackers or good with the ball midfielders.

Again, if you can't see how our passing and movement have improved then I just give up. Not seen a display like that at their place in the first half for a very long time but as usual we lacked a cutting edge. Stick Rashford out on the left and get a top striker and this is easily a top 4 team.

On a side note, the improvement in Dalot this season is fantastic btw  We play with two technically very adept fullbacks.

Little depth and CB made out of glass. Very happy with the results, considering all. We are starting to look like a team.

We started very well. I thought G. Potter did well to introduce Kovacic and changed his midfield tactics and it kind of worked. But we were the better team even in the second half. Relieved when we equalised. This team is going places now.

Declining? Did anyone say declining? Ladies & gentlemen, Casemiro! The monster from Brazil!!

And Marcus Rashford is not a Center Forward.

Pretty even affair and right result. The penalty was bullshit

Roy Keane talks about us like we’re coming off the back of Fergies last season in charge and the last ten years and last season didn’t happen.

And JFH must have watched a completely different game to the one I just watched.

Oh true we were better on balance, but like... We deserved to win by half a goal. Wouldn't say we we did enough to "deserve the win" if for the last hour we struggled to link up anything in the attack.
It’s our own fault we didn’t win but Chelsea can’t perform like they did in that first half and say they deserved something. We have a top striker we win that game in those 35 minutes. It was total control. Can’t remember the last time we’ve done that away to a top side. I’m chuffed with ETH.

Played well, look a lot more solid and trustworthy these days, still lacking in the final third, we don’t know what to do with it, no one in the box for a cross, tip tally around, no one running behind. It’ll come but it’s frustrating when dominating matches only to be a bit toothless.

Really pleased for Casemiro, loved his celebration

We should have scored in the first half, but I'm not disappointed with a draw the way this game ended. Hope Varane is okay.

Thank feck for Casemiro. Absolutely world class player.

1st half we were better, 2nd half was pretty much dead even. Dumb penalty to concede but the game was going for a 0-0 if not for that, ended 1-1 due to the little push. Huge shame for Varane, hope it's nothing much but I doubt that. No idea what he injured.

Antony i thought was pretty good but quiet 2nd. Bruno was good IMO, Eriksen a bit shit throughout, Casemiro easy MotM. Back 5 very good as well, nothing to comment on there. Sancho was shite. Rashford was quiet. Eriksen shite. Those 3 were the reason we struggled IMO.

Spot on. That pen was gutting, a point was honestly the least we deserved.

I agree in a way with Keane that we need to score more, but Ronaldo is not the answer long term.

Overall, we’re looking good in my opinion. So happy for Casemiro too, deserved goal.

Casemiro is clearly on a mission to make me love him! Not doing too shabby so far!

So, we come to the bridge, and have more possession, more attempts, more shots on target.. Even if we lack some bite in the last third, that is impressive! This has always been an extremely difficult game for us. Honestly happy were we are at right now.

It’s our own fault we didn’t win but Chelsea can’t perform like they did in that first half and say they deserved something. We have a top striker we win that game in those 35 minutes. It was total control. Can’t remember the last time we’ve done that away to a top side. I’m chuffed with ETH.

Same. Even under Fergie we rarely (ever?) dominated Chelsea like that at their own ground.

What a well played match from both sides. There was everything in this. Technique, Tactics, Great play, goals, and, most importantly, grit at the end from United.

I think we can say we are a top 4 team now and on the rise. This is going to be a fun season....too bad WC will break it up.

- Dalot was magnificent. Maybe he is our answer to RB, maybe he is the sort of player who just keeps improving.
- Antony is just pure class and this match he showed great ability to keep the ball in tough situations.
- Love Casemiro and his thinking ahead and that he is a winner.
- Sancho was the only real downer. His passes just rarely have the correct weight on them and he seems a step behind the thinking of his teammates. I hope he can turn it around.

I hope Varane's injury isn't too bad. It looked like a jammed ankle to me and not a muscle problem.

I thought we were very good, definitely the better side over 90 minutes and it was so good to see us not panicking at the back any more. In the past, we'd have lost that 2-0 after not scoring in the first half.

I'll say it again: we won't win anything without a top-class goal scorer. Rashford never will be and I don't think Martial is either.

Varane and Martinez excellent again. Eriksen bossed the midfield again. Antony very good first half, faded yet again in the second. Sancho doesn't seem to know what the football is - I'd try ronaldo out there.

When you are disappointed with a draw against Chelsea, you know the team has turned a corner.

Total control first half, ripping them apart but poor finishing again and underlines our need for a centre forward.
Loss pf varane is a blow hopefully not long term.
Chelsea were better second half, we seemed to loose the intensity and didnt get it back until after the penalty.
Pretty fair result but we really should have won it first half.

referee giving that penalty was fecking atrocious.

I'd expect us to get one on our corners but the lot of them are fecking usless and inconsistent.

Gutted we’ve lost Varane for the foreseeable future.

Its really going to hurt us defensively. Him and Lisandro are rocks at the back.

If we insert maguire back in, then who knows what will happen.

Hopefully Harry finds his form and confidence again and performs like he did when he first came.
