Post-match discussion

We started well as I expected. We need to become more clinical and have more composure.

Sancho and Dalot need a rest.

Shoulda won, but we are a work in progress.

We battered AC Milan home and away over the past few weeks. We're not the best side in the league but we're certainly not shite.

Easy tiger - AC Milan was decimated by injuries in those two matches, you know that.

But, you're not shite - you're def top4 material with City, Arsenal and us.

Before todays game I would have thought our chances of winning against the top 4 sides as being less than 30%. If we were to face Chelsea again in a few weeks time I would be expecting a win. We have clearly improved and whilst there is a lot to do for the first time in a couple of seasons i have genuine hope for the future.

We were playing so good until Kovacic came on. That was a good substitution by Potter to change their shape. ETH should probably have had a back-up plan too, and made a change to counter the Kovacic move by Potter.

Maybe we do not have the right bench strength to help ETH. I mean, if our options are to bring on FeckTominay and Fred, then what can one do as a manager.

I really wish he promoted youth. Maybe try out Z.Iqbal. With Martial injured, Ronaldo ageing and Sancho being completely ùseless, I wish we had more options. Also, as Scoles said earlier, Antony does seem like a very limited player.

Casemiro saved us from losing in the end, but, we could've won that.

Really hope Varane isn't out for too long. Martinez and him were beginning to build something.

Its not that crazy a take. We have nobody that can finish right now….we’re creating the chances

It's a crazy take for anyone that has watched this team play, because there is no chance in hell this team dominates any period of the game with Ronaldo up front.

Really strong first half and had we finished those chances it's 3 points in the bag. Kovacic change definitely helped Chelsea get back momentum. I thought Broja just let himself fall/stumble and McTominay was holding on and got called for it. Wasn't a lot in it but he got caught. Not a bad result but 3 points were there for the taking.

This is Rashfords chance to make an impact given he'll be looking for a new contract soon. He should be hungry for goals and giving Martial and Ronaldo food for thought.

Having seen us play all the top 6 teams so far ,Arsenal and City are the only teams who I felt were better than us . We should now go on a winning run against the lesser teams to improve our league position and then see our chances against the two.

We have done better than could be expected, except for the 2nd game. We need a couple of improvements in January, to secure a top four spot.

There is zero evidence that says Ronaldo would make things better this season. We've been worse pretty much every game he has played than the games without. Yes, we need someone who can score, but Ronaldo isn't the answer either, and the team as a whole performs far worse when he's on the pitch.

You played well against (lads it's) Spurs and for about 30 minutes today. You also got battered by Man City and battered by Brentford so lets not pretend it's all been great under Hag.

You're a work in progress of course, as are we and to call either side "shite" is just dumb.
Brentford’s early on, it’s like chalk and cheese to what we were back then. That’s what you see, improvement. Playing the top 6 in our last 8 games and being 5th is a great showing, hell it’s last years top 7 after West Ham next week. That’s what’s great to see about this side.
I can’t honestly see any improvement in your lot. Maybe it’s because Potter didn’t get a window but you’re just continuing your horrible 2022 displays since Christmas. We ran Spurs off the park, named an unchanged 11 and still matched your effort even though you rested so many v Brentford.
So much money spend and it’s just blah.

I thought I watching Mourinho's' Chelsea not Potters. Solid, disruptive and nick a goal against the run of play. Not many teams are going to get the best of Chelsea especially at the Bridge this season. I think we did well. Just need to be more clinical. Never a penalty. Well technically yes by the rule of law maybe but if you followed the rule of law all the time there will be 2/3 penalties a game and numerous yellow and red cards.

I think we were still good once he came on, I think Varane's injury and the swap of Sancho brought the slight lull.
One lesson people need to learn quickly is that Bruno does a lot for us when pressing. Eriksen doesn't offer that as an Attacking midfielder, particularly at this stage. It showed again today. It's a good option for a low tempo game or one in which we are already up and cruising, but not against a side as good as Chelsea.

In terms of our youngsters, I think we will start to see them more soon. We really needed the time and minutes to really adopt ETH's game plan. We clearly struggle to adapt to it once the season started, so every game has been important for us to develop that style. We have also had a very heavy run of fixtures to start the season, taking a risk and starting one of our youngsters wouldn't have made sense. We also don't have many youngsters that I would be comfortable giving a look in. This is not to say anything bad about the academy as we have produced good players over the years, but outside of Iqbal and Garnacho, I don't think any of our academy players are ready to play at a top level yet. I think trying to facilitate academy player growth has been one of the reasons we have struggled over the years and should not be a real focus for us moving forward.

So much money spend and it’s just blah.

You snatched a draw against us in the 94th minute and are below us in the league. I personally don't think either side is shite but if we are, so are you.

McT being rated worst player is unfair. Giving penalty was not smart and nearly killed us, but it wasn't as clear of penalty as it seemed. There was definitely diving involved by Broja.

I think the worst player was actually Sancho. Absolute empty space, total zero. Had to be replaced by Fred. What a shame.
100 percent in agreement.

TBH that's a bit unfair and I also felt it was unfair to Tuchel too. Chelsea have a good squad and Potter hasn't been bad. However, they are missing some really important pieces. Reece James is such a massive part of Chelsea's team, Kante is another massive piece of that team too. Right now, they are having to play Loftus Cheek and Gallagher a lot more than they otherwise would. Their attack is not as good as it should be either. Havertz is nothing special imo. Neither is Aubameyang or Pulisic. I actually like Mount. However I reckon that Chelsea will do well to sustain a stable front 3 rather than constantly switching systems and rotating as often as they do.

There’s so much to say about a 1-1 result, but in the interest of brevity I’ll only mention two things: our poor finishing and our brilliance in midfield, led by Casemiro.

What a colossus of a midfielder.

It’s our own fault we didn’t win but Chelsea can’t perform like they did in that first half and say they deserved something. We have a top striker we win that game in those 35 minutes. It was total control. Can’t remember the last time we’ve done that away to a top side. I’m chuffed with ETH.
Good post. Respect!

This is 2 points lost in my eyes. We was all over them and created more then enough chances to win the game. I’m impressed with how much the players are adapting to ETH methods and we look miles better in possession then we’ve done for a few years. We defo need a clinical striker to start killing games off. Mctominay is such an idiot for dragging someone down in the box though. Could of been a win if they didn’t get that pen. I think that was the only chance they really had.

Made up for Casemiro getting that winner to cap another top performance from him. Dalot and Martinez were always good.

We were the better side and definitely didn’t deserve to lose so glad we got the point, dominated the first half an hour but weren’t clinical enough and Chelsea improved a little bit second half but we were still better before that daft penalty McTominay gave away. Need to be better in the final third but a step in the right direction.

Another promising match with more sharpness up front the game could have been wrapped up in the first half. One point off the the top four having only played teams in the top half of the table (bar Everton) looks great, in a normal season we would be looking at a run of winnable fixtures let's hope the sportwash tournament doesn't feck us over.

Have you seen Ronaldo play recently? Would we even still be creating the chances with him up top?

My point isn’t that Ronaldo is even close to being adequate right now…he’s not. But unless we have some alternative he’s still at least…hopefully…better than the alternative. If…and it’s an if…he can start finishing at league average level. There’s just no one else that is frankly any better. At least we had some evidence of his ability to still finish just one season ago.

Trust me…if we can get a decent striker in Jan and boot Ronaldo I’m all for it. I just don’t think we will so we need to make due with the best we have. ETH has all but admitted this publicly…this is not a hot take.

Still don’t understand all the wrestling at corners and free kicks. I played years ago at a decent level and it was about positioning and getting to the ball. Having said that , McTom is an idiot and gets out thought by the opposition constantly, how long has he been playing.

Says a lot when he is first choice off the subs bench, great fight back and what would the team perform like with a real striker leading the line.

Agreed. Although Ronaldo has had his chances and not taken them and there is zero reason to have him start most games, we need him cause we have no cover.

Thought we were the better team overall, but we failed to score our chances which is becoming a recurring problem. All in all we're clearly on the right track.

We battered AC Milan home and away over the past few weeks. We're not the best side in the league but we're certainly not shite.

A bit stodgy though based on what I have seen so far this season. Where is the creativity? Where are the goals?

Chelsea will always be solid and difficult to beat, especially at Stamford Bridge, but I feel you'll drop points by drawing too many games unless you can get some additional attacking flair into the side
