Manchester United 2:1 Brentford

Post-match discussion

By his logic, that famous Macheda goal against Villa was a sign of slipping far down.

It's crept in hasn't it, bitter fans moaning at celebrations of goals.

I moaned at their man celebrating a goal kick, but that was ridiculously ill advised.

I'd actually love to hear your reasoning behind posting this.

almost every foul was yellow card against us but similar fouls by your lot were left unpunished. He blew up seconds after the restart from your second goal despite you celebrating two goals in injury time. The second included one of your donkeys going down injured. Is what it is, a tough mid table clash that wenr the way of the home team.

Don't worry, you'll always be able to celebrate that goal kick!

You’re obviously upset but I’d probably not post until you are less so.

You’re a good poster who I like hearing the opinions of but you’re letting yourself down a bit this evening and coming across pretty bitter.

Delicious bitterness. Your team’s time wasting backfired.

I had almost lost hope until I saw that goal kick celebration. Then just had a little inkling that he'd gone too soon.
But that finish...

To be fair, quite a few United fans are doing their best rawk impression in the Thomas Frank thread, so I am not surprised he is extra bitter.

Congrats, ref did you proud

Personally I give all the credit to Ajer for thinking the match was over when he got a goal kick on what should have been a corner kick and subsequently letting McTominay score 2 goals.

I wonder what our results would have been like if we could have played all games without injuries, meaning: Luke Shaw and Malacia as left backs, AWB available, Licha and Varane playing most of the games, Amrabat and Hojlund playing.

I think we would have conceded way less goals, especially if we had a goalkeeper that is not made of a sponge.

Still would have needed more in goal-scoring. Rashford is a real problem

It's very tribal to imply United won because of the referee. There weren't any contentious calls in the game and even TalkShite would have a hard job cobbling together a sob story for the ABU mob to feel aggrieved over today.

If United got more 50-50 calls, so what? It's not like the ref has some obligation to dish out an equal number of free kicks for either side. It's just the way it goes.

You were unlucky to be on the receiving end of a last gasp winner but the referee and the officials in general had a very good game and got all the big calls spot on. Give them credit where it's due instead of being so myopic.

This new time wasting and injury time rule only seems to apply when we’re winning.

Not a yellow card or decent amount if added on time to be seen when we’re losing.

The injury time in both halves today was awful. Ref told their goal keeper time and time again but chose to do nothing about it, players walking to change the balls for throw ins to squeeze a few seconds

Sweet irony that the 2 goals came in the time that was added due to Brentford wasting time. It’s a plague on the game that needs cutting out

Genuinely was expecting 10 minutes in that 2nd half to be added.

It’s kind of like all our cruddy random managerial appointments have been channeled by ETH.
If you merged Moyes, Mou, Ole and LVGs style you’d basically get what we have now. Direct long balls mixed with an attempt at passing from the back and an urgency to find the head of Fellaini/Ibra/Rasmus/McT/Maguire when. The chips are down.

We’re going to win the league playing Pulis ball.

I’d love to think that. I didn’t watch the match. So will ask questions to see if this comeback is a new or false dawn.

If the performance was worthy of a win and we would have been unlucky to lose : draw then yes I’d say it can be a turning point.

However if the performance was rubbish and we deserved to lose but were lucky to win then I’d say it’s nothing we haven’t seen under Ole, Mourinho, even Moyes. incidentally, I don’t really remember any combacks under LVG. So then I don’t think we should read too much into this.

Obviously I hope regardless of how we played this is a turning point. But that’s what I hope. What I think can only be based on what I’ve seen and understand about football and United over the past 10 years.
To be honest, a win from a shit game would probably do more to morale and confidence, as you’re basically thinking that luck is now on your side
And footballers are superstitious creatures

Shaw you'd think would make the biggest difference. We've had zero support for Rashy on the left hand side

Don't accept our fans saying it's the worst performance under any post Fergie manager. First half was dire but second half we played better, deserved to win over all and considering morale is clearly low, the performance in that context wasn't bad at all.

A fun end but lord almighty are we poor right now.
Whatever Erik wants the players to do, it is not working.
We are fragile without the ball, our pressing is awful.
We are poor in attack, we basically need to throw the kitchen sink to create something in the chaos.
We should pack our midfield for next game with Scott, Hannibal, Amrabat, Mount, players that have legs.

No truer words.

Just a shame will be leaving you behind in the midtable scramble soon. We are accumulating points, whilst you’re busy gifting them.

The problems are there for all to see but if you cannot enjoy that last minute winner then probably football isn't your sport. Imagine being a fan of a team who never wins anything last minute winners are what make it the sport we love.

Ba ba bada ba ba Scott mctominay!

It wasn't even 50-50's, they got most of their cards from very obvious professional fouls. They've got nothing to complain about, they nicked a goal, parked the bus, and timewasted their way through 2/3rds of the match and it blew up in their faces. The referee is under no obligation to facilitate their anti-football strategy.

I am still furious at some of the time wasting from the opposition players, particularly that creep of a free-throw taker who kept taking 5 mins to feel the ripeness of the ball before taking another 3 to chuck it in.
Were that any of our players they'd have got an easy yellow for that type of behavior.

Last minute winners are like having the worst possible Friday but then you take that first step outside work and everything that went before becomes irrelevant, a rush of excitement takes over as you moonwalk to your car.

No interest in getting into an argument but it tickles me to see someone getting annoyed about the ref not adding the correct amount of added time when really there should have been about 12 added minutes the way your lot were carrying on in the second half.

Yes!! This. Everything is good til we play Sheffield United now.

Just got home from the game. Amrabat in the second half was really good. Really gave us the control we needed with the ball. Rashford really needs to fix up, he was looking bored and dejected the whole game.
