PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:1 Bournemouth

Post-match discussion

It was obvious how difficult it was to create chances without Ibra dropping deep in the second half. You need creativity against a bus and there was none in the second half,

All went wrong once Carrick was subbed. Obviously a number of players had bad days.
That sub made the least sense. The only player who looked like opening their defense with a pass was taken off for Fellaini. That amd the Lingard sub was Jose taking the piss. If we miss out on top 4, a lot has to do with Jose making God awful calls during a game.

One silly mistake and our inability to take our clear chances. They had 1 shot on target all game! Their keeper played very good and we should of scored the penalty. Very frustrating to watch. That wasn't our strongest 11 but changes needed to happen. We are 2 or 3 players from challenging at the top again. It's not as bad as some people on here are making out.

I agree it's fine margins, but today was terrible. I'm going to get a curry and have a good few cans. My weekend is ruined.

Was saying for years, feck this 4-2-3-1 bullshit of formation. Also feck JM`s tribe mentality,in what fecking universe Afroman is better then anyone when it comes to building a pressure via build up play?!

A front 4 containing Zlat, Mata and Rooney is always going to be a problem, too easy to defend against. The lack of pace is ridiculous and it was a poor decision from Jose to start them all.

Just livid right now. How poor must that performance have been if we were unable to score a goal against a 10 men Bournemouth. I repeat ... 10 ... men ... Bournemouth.

Pogba is just so frustating to watch. Just run into the space right in front of you and play a quick one two. But no, he plays these really difficult lobbed balls. I just don't know what he is trying to prove. Just keep it simple.

Ibra.. Now, this is the reason why we should not be depending on a 35 year old striker. Like, it is OK if it is only about him missing chances. But, his movement seemed so lethargic today it affected our entire play.

Mourinho also got the formation after making the subs wrong. Why did he bring off Carrick? And his replacement was Fellaini. Fellaini is only good as a target man, or as a disruptive presence in midfield. It left Pogba so isolated and seemed to bring out the worst in Pogba.

Lingard as a left wing back. That was really odd. It seemed to affect Martials game and it helped Bournemouth close out any threat from that flank. Should have brought on Blind instead.

Martial was causing quite a few problems from them from the wing. We should have tried to support him and should have given him more of the ball. But we failed to do this mostly becuase we had Pogba as the only midfield option and he was entirely at sea.

Against 10 men, the genral tactic is to move the ball. Just move it around and tire them. But we were either loosing the ball or playing hopeful lobbed balls or through balls. This was one game where LVG style sideways, forwards, backwards ball movement would have helped us.

It would have been OK if we could have labeled this performance as one off. But we have been consitenly poor in the last few matches. We were poor against St Etienne in the return leg, we were poor against Southampton and we were diabolical today.

However, we will hopefully have Herrera and Mikhi back in the team and that will make a huge difference.

I'm sure you've pointed out most of the criticism resulting from this game, but I'm sure you've missed out the main culprit...
OK, so I'm on the coach going to the match. I don't often go and I am not a lucky talisman. Don't blame me, please. :nervous:

Why do we always choke when we have the chance to go into the top 4. Bring Keano back as coach to give them all a measure of what is expected of a United player. I´m sure that would get some of them trying a little harder. Boruc is one of the worst keepers in the league and we made him look like a world beater. Mata,Ibra,Rooney,Carrick does not work as we do not move the ball quickly enough. We did miss Herrera and Miki today but Mourinho please stop playing Rooney, it´s no use playing a guy who´s finished even though he´s a former great with a young player like Rashford on the bench.

Always the same this season. Have a big chance to close the gap on the teams above us and blow it through not being able to kill teams off. None of our big players stepped up to the mark today and them going down to ten men was probably the worst thing that could've happened as we were far too one paced to break them down.

Well.. thing get simpler now.

We should put more emphasis on EL from now on. Like making sure Mhiki will be fit for EL games .. things like that, but I have a feeling Mourinho always looks at EL as our main option to CL for some times. Playing our 1st team @ St. Etienne is one of the evidence.

And next summer, despite the caf asking for CB, defenders, I think our main priority should be attacking players. This year what let us down is not our losts but we drew too many matches so we should make sure our attacking options next year will be really really potent. With Griezmann being one, maybe we could buy another. Ibra can't save our ass every match.

2 good attacking players, one good DM and one good left back will do, hopefully.

We absolutely dominated the game...but once again we failed to score (in the 2nd half), when our opponent decides to park the bus.

Ibra had a poor game today, but when he plays badly, I expect our other attackers to step up. Sadly (like last season), our attackers aren't great and our entire game plan relies on Ibra scoring.

We could have beaten them over 90 minutes. These 70 minute games are a cancer on football.

Mate, be honest, if we had played for another 90 minutes, we probably wouldn't have scored.
When our opponent parks the bus, we simply cannot score. It's happened too many times to mention.
Our only hope of winning is when our opponent attempts to score and play football. If they decide to park the bus, we end up with huge possession, lots of shots on goal, but no goal.

Before today I think Bournemouth lost 5 out of the last 6 games? They come here and immediately play like supermen, when they are a man down.

Just watched the match...fecking disgraceful....how do you play worse when you are up a player? Ref gave us everything today and we still couldn't score one fecking goal? Pogba......I ask myself wtf is he doing at times....he just flicks the ball forward to nobody....Ibra should of been sent off, as well as that cnut who stamped on his head.....Miki would of torn Bournemouth apart today....no reason we shouldnt of scored three or four....and feck off to those bitching about others bitching....these are the games that cost clubs championships and top four finishes....have every right to be angry and call out players....think Chelsea/Man City would of bottled it like us today? Not a chance.

Agree with you as I would like to see young Tuanzebe given a chance as one of 4 central defenders next season. We need a prober right winger with pace and can cross the ball, Griezman/Dybala and somebody to fill the DM like Weigl/Dier. Perhaps Lukaku could be an option also. I think(hope) Rooney,Carrick,Young,Fellaini,Darmian,Schweinsteiger and Januzaj will leave in the summer and the salary cost of those players is 800-900.000 pounds per week. Getting them off the payroll will give United a great flexibility in recruiting for next season. We simply are not getting a lot of return on all that money to say the least.

We need a leader at the back, not a kid who is still wet behind the ears. That is our problem we don't have leaders except Zlatan when he isn't dead on his feet.

I've just noticed we've only won 1 early kick off league game this season.

12:30 - Man Utd 1-2 Man City
12:00 - Watford 3-1 Man Utd
12:30 - Man Utd 4-1 Leicester
12:00 - Man Utd 1-1 Stoke
12:30 - Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal
12:30 - Man Utd 1-1 Bournemouth

Remaining early kick offs that have been confirmed so far are Boro A and Swansea H.

Such a typical home game of 2016-17. Unbelievable.

Aye. Not sure why he chose to bring Rooney back in today? Not that today was his fault, but i just dont understand why he wpuld be back in the side today. The partnership with Zlatan doesnt work and we all know that.

I miss the controlled pace with which we tightened our grip on games under Fergie. Mourinho reverted to doing what he did back in the autumn, throwing a bunch of people on and playing as if it's dying minutes of the match even though there's still half an hour to go. We really should have finished them off today, but Bournemouth rattled us, the ref did a poor job of keeping tempers in check, and we looked disjointed all second half.

It's really nice to have Arsenal - Liverpool as a pick me up. Either this round is a missed chance to pull ahead, or we find ourselves getting at least a point more than one of them, there's still plenty to play for.

We might as well just focus on the cups. The league mentality seems to be any chance to leave the comfort of 6th position and they seize up. 1-0 up as well against that utter pile of dross that Everton put 6 past a few weeks ago.

Zlatan has had a good season but how many of these draws are on him? Let's be honest.

How many of our wins is are on him is the right question.

And stop blaming him for everyone else playing bad. How bout Rashford? Jones? Pogba? Mata? Rooney? all crap. Only diffrence is we are used to it, but if our 26 goal striker has a bad day hes to blame alone. Pathetic.

I genuinely don't care anymore if we come Top 4 or not. We absolutely don't deserve to be in the CL and sneaking in through the backdoor may happen but we still just don't deserve it. The way we play, we'll probably crash out of the groups anyway. CL or not, we have enough money to convince players to leave and come as well.

If things stay the same at Anfield, we'll have missed another chance to go up and lost our game in hand advantage. Never forget goal difference. We'll be 4 points behind Liverpool and two behind Arsenal with the away game to come.

Only hope is that 2 of the other Bottlers (Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham) will bottle even more than us.

We currently Arsenal are bottling it.
I think Spurs will be playing in a few days (or maybe tomorrow), so we shall need to wait and see if they also bottle it.

Let Ibra take his 2 year contract, shove it up his arse and go retire in China.

Read back what you are saying. He is our most prolific goal scorer since RvP and you want him gone?
If he goes, who is going to score goals for us?
When Ibra has a bad game, none of our other attackers step up to the plate. Today, Rojo needed to score - Ibra was bad today, but what about Mata, Martial, Lingard, Rooney? None of them scored.

Story of this season isn't it? Can't believe the consistency we've been showing. Absolutely pathetic performance. We should have been up by 3-4 goals within 15 mins! But looking at long run, at least now we'll drop out of Europa and FA Cup within the same week so we can focus on keeping our place at 6th. We seem to have grown fond of that position.

This was so predictable. In fact, I predicted a 0-0 stalemate so I should be glad we scored, all things considered.

It's pretty obvious we're not making top four. For most of the year, we've been out of it and having had the chance to get into the top 4, chance after chance, we've blown the chance to lift ourselves from the hefty heights of 6th place.

Europa League or bust now for me. Premier League top 4 is so obviously not happening.

On the positive side - we continue our league unbeaten run.

runs and hides....

Jose wanted to inject some urgency (and fresh legs), to shake things up. That's why we made 3 subs at once.
Up to that point, Bournemouth were parking the bus, successfully and able to defend against every attack.
He did the right thing.

Has a team ever played this well and failed to put away as many chances as we do?

I didn't like how we panicked in the second half as a reaction to them sitting back. We were shite, but then again we were a saved penalty away from bringing home all three points.
