I/We appreciate your POVs, no reason to apologize but shows your character and awareness, so major props to you. You're one of the more valid and well thought out posters/people here compared to the hyperbole that is spouted especially during matchdays and in general!
Overall you're right, but even then, the adjustment the team will make (hopefully it'll be a net positive as many of us assume) and the expectations and compromises supporters have will be interesting and we'll have to get on with it.
I've missed you doing these!Fred - Speaker of post match gibberish, and only player on earth who has the potential to finish the season with more motm awards than appearances, due to frequently winning them for both teams
Antony - ffs use your right foot, no your RIGHT foo....oh never mind as I was saying the left is fine.
Martinez - he can't even give his team mate some water without doing it so aggressively it looks like someone force feeding a baby in some kind of child cruelty camp.
Rashford - guess he was due a game off from single handedly retiring half the opposition back 4.
Garnacho/Sancho - whichever one starts looks rubbish, and whichever one comes on to replace them looks great. Well in Garnacho's case looks like they've glued some cheese to their head in an attempt to blend in as a human, but still.
Lewandowski - I was underwhelmed. Why is he always flopping his body around and generally behaving like a fish?
The ref - what a weirdo. The penalty wasn't completely outrageous but he spent a good 20 minutes of the game making it illegal for Barcelona to lose the ball, then in the last 10 minutes seemed to decide everything any Barcelona player did constituted a foul.
All in all 100/10 to every player
I do think we have to move on from DDG as it is imperative to move towards becoming a possession based team that can suffocate opponents if we want to win big trophies again given ETHs philosophy as well.I don't believe De Gea is one of the best shot stoppers in the world and I'm sure the statistics will back me up on that.
Of course we need a good shot stopper and I'm sure there will be good shot stoppers that the scouts will know about. But for me it's about taking positive steps towards creating a team that fits the methods of ten Hag. A keeper who is commanding against the high ball and technically secure in possesion will aid the collective where less defending will have to be done by the outfield players.
The below is what I saw from De Gea tonight and the statistics confirm that. That's no where near good enough in comparison to the competition, when Ter Stegen
had a 90% completion rate.
De Gea had a pass completion of 54% compared to 90% for Ter Stegen. De Gea made 15 long passes completing only 4. Ter Stegen made 18 long passes completing 14, and only misplaced 4 passes from a total of 37 passes made. Casemiro saved us today, by making some fantastic blocks but I'm not sure how long ten Hag will want to carry De Gea in the build up transition.

Had me worried he'd pop his shoulder or somethingGod I love that Varane celebration.

It felt like it.It's no mean feat beating these Spanish teams, never mind Uefalona over 2 legs. The kind of tie that felt like a CL semi.
Why couldn't you watch it? I couldn't either, cause my country is run by cnuts of the highest order. So gutted I wasn't able to watch the match. What a shame really
Anyway just watch the HL and that's one of the softest pens I've seen in my life if not the softest. Sure Bruno did touch that guy but no way that'd be enough for him to fall so beautifully like that. If that's a pen there would be probably 10 every match or how the feck the defenders supposed to defend especially in corner kicks with the usual amount of grab and push.
Feck those cheating cnuts they cheated and still lost
Oh my country is also run by the cnuts of the highest order too but that's not the reason for me. The match started at 3 AM here. I was trying my best to be awake waiting for the match but I simply fell asleepWhy couldn't you watch it? I couldn't either, cause it country is run by cnuts of the highest order.
Oh god this is the sweetest thing I've read this week:
But Barça fans should be proud of this team. They definitely weren’t embarrassed in Europe and held their own against arguably the best team in the world right now on both legs.
From the pro-Barca Barca Blaugranes
I wouldn't say so, but wow, it feels awesomeOk so with Arsenal being overhyped and lucky with always playing one match a week, City faltering and the PL being the strongest league, is our form the best at the moment? Is there any truth at all to that statement? Real looked pretty damn good the other night.
Whenever the ball comes to Fred, the gods flip a coin.Fred can have a 1/10 and a 10/10 game simultaneously.
The issue right now is fatigue and if Rashford and Casemiro are out injured.I genuinely think we have enough to push for the league. It may take a push, but with Sancho back, Rashford in form and AWB being good again, it really bolsters are squad. We also have enough quality to beat any team and enuugh consistent performers to win games consistently as well.
Our only issues for this season are:
a. Both City and Arsenal are also quality teams. They both have more well rounded squads and actual strikers in their team
b. The current gap. 5 points behind with an extra game played is good enough to be in the title race, but is far enough for it to not to be a straight shoot out. We will have to hope for some slip ups, with the knowledge that we don't necessarily have the firepower ( due to not having a striker) to pull through more challenging games consistently.
I do also think that we are a summer away from being genuinely strong champions league contenders. I don't think many teams are better than us in Europe as it stands. With this manager, and the current players we have, if we can upgrade the position next to Casemiro, sign a striker and compile more depth through loan returns and cheap forays into the market, we can have a squad that can challenge for everything.
The draw is todayWho do we play in the next round?
So not only me but Bruno also browses the CAF regularly.Delighted with that second half performance and glad that someone either spoke to the ref at half time or he watched a few things back maybe... because the pressure Fernandes put Rafinha under for the goal would have been blown up as a foul.
Glad we beat the diving cheats and stuffed their levers up their arse.
There was about 1000 pages of transfer forum venom added to that kick of the ball from Fernandes into FdJ's lower portions too.
Anthony transformed the right wing...he covers so much ground so quickly and tracks back to help the team.
He is talking about the result. The rest is w**k.I didn't mention the most important stats but rather alluded to the development of a team towards the most important stats which are winning the biggest titles like the champions league within a defined style of play. And Ter Stegen has aided that development for Luis Enrique where they've won the biggest honours within a play style that was developed over time.
Why couldn't you watch it? I couldn't either, cause my country is run by cnuts of the highest order.
Lewandowski tried to do CasThe issue right now is fatigue and if Rashford and Casemiro are out injured.
Is we had a deeper squad I'd agree but being in 4 comps will stretch us.
We have 2 losses, 2 draws and 18 wins at home in all competitions this season. So that’s Liverpool, arsenal, spurs, city, now Barcelona all beaten at old trafford. Ten Hag wasn’t joking when he said old Trafford was going to be a fortress.
Bruno intentionally hitting De Jong with the ball at full force was every United fan who is pissed at Frankie for thinking he's better than us. Was worth the yellow card
I was surprised by how poor Barcelona were in possession. Neither team looked that competent in the first half. Barca created very little and wasted decent situations with poor passes in the final third.
Hugely underrated aspect of his game. Man Utd are better when Antony plays.Antony brings such a balance to the team, we can notice it when he's not playing. Even when he's not doing well going forward, he puts a real shift pressing and defending.
Makes a huge difference to us playing out from the back too. I, like most, was expecting a flying winger but the amount of times he holds the ball in our own half, drawing in two or three challengers and finds a way out is impressive and opens up a lot of breaks down the right side.Antony brings such a balance to the team, we can notice it when he's not playing. Even when he's not doing well going forward, he puts a real shift pressing and defending.
Yeah the pundits were a bit shit. Not sure what Scholes brings to the table to be honest.Shaw deserves massive credit for overall play, and the backheel especially was delightful. I know I’m repeating myself, but... Another thought: BT sport have all the discussion on pitchside. No studio vibe, or analysis. To get away with that you need great skill and presence of mind. What’s-her-name seemed a bit out of her depth. I like her as a presenter usually, but. Fans were singing RVP song, she seemed to miss it. Missed jokes, too, and seemed tense and uncomfortable generally. With Scholes (who is improving, but still awkward, very naturally shy), Owen H, who is kind of polite and academic, it felt curiously stilted at the end, with the stadium still full and the stands going mad. You’d miss Ferdinand or even Neville to catch the mood. Not Scholesy … ‘no… it’s great, yeah’.
