Another tactical masterclass from ETH. Can't see anyone beating us from here...

Ffs couldn't watch the game. Could someone fill me in in short.

They 'controlled' the first half according to BT (generous) by virtue of us being shit, but still needed an iffy Pen to score... Then we took Weghorst off at HT and absolutely dominated them second half. Basically it was like the Leicester game, only they looked less threatening and had fewer chances in the 1st, and we kept them quiet rather than putting them to the sword in the 2nd.

I'm a little worried we looked knackered in the first half, but Antony and Sabitzer will be fresh, and Sancho is better coming off the bench anyway. Rashford wasn't very involved, but hopefully that means he isn't too exerted either. Garnacho's hair does absolutely not suit his face at all.

This is just fecking surreal at the moment. What a team we have right now. Played Barca off the pitch in the second half.

Fred MOTM and Bruno, Varane, Martinez, Casemiro and Antony were all also absolutely outstanding in that half.

Arsenal pose the biggest risk I think, but they've got the league to worry about and I'd probably fancy us over two legs. If we meet them in the final then its 50-50 I think.

Though before that we risk drawing Mourinho's Roma in the next round, and you just know the sour one will be up for it.

My only thoughts on tonight summed up in gif form:

sir-alex-enjoyed-antonys-goal-%E2%9D%A4%EF%B8%8F__via-cbssportsgolazo-__https___t-co_6dzwb8ieg5-gif.3094828

Is that Howard Wilkinson with SAF?!

My first match in Old Trafford for three years and i think i picked a decent match for my return.

Electric atmosphere drove United on 2nd half. Better side over the two legs won but made it harder for ourselves by giving away a silly penalty which Degea probably should have saved. The subs all delivered an impact as ETH would demand. I thought Martínez, Varane was superb and Fred good in the 2nd half. Good to get the job done in 90 minutes (didn't need extra time with Sundays final) and hopefully the momentum of that big win tonight will be enough to win a domestic trophy on Sunday.

It's sweet to knock out a bunch of shithousing cnuts who try to ruin the sport with their petulant antics. Even sweeter to knock out that bellend Frenkie who thought the EL was beneath him

Delighted with that second half performance and glad that someone either spoke to the ref at half time or he watched a few things back maybe... because the pressure Fernandes put Rafinha under for the goal would have been blown up as a foul.

Glad we beat the diving cheats and stuffed their levers up their arse.

There was about 1000 pages of transfer forum venom added to that kick of the ball from Fernandes into FdJ's lower portions too.

Anthony transformed the right wing...he covers so much ground so quickly and tracks back to help the team.

I genuinely think we have enough to push for the league. It may take a push, but with Sancho back, Rashford in form and AWB being good again, it really bolsters are squad. We also have enough quality to beat any team and enuugh consistent performers to win games consistently as well.

Our only issues for this season are:

a. Both City and Arsenal are also quality teams. They both have more well rounded squads and actual strikers in their team
b. The current gap. 5 points behind with an extra game played is good enough to be in the title race, but is far enough for it to not to be a straight shoot out. We will have to hope for some slip ups, with the knowledge that we don't necessarily have the firepower ( due to not having a striker) to pull through more challenging games consistently.

I do also think that we are a summer away from being genuinely strong champions league contenders. I don't think many teams are better than us in Europe as it stands. With this manager, and the current players we have, if we can upgrade the position next to Casemiro, sign a striker and compile more depth through loan returns and cheap forays into the market, we can have a squad that can challenge for everything.

We won this game because we got in their face and took it over by sheer force. We looked a little sloppy at times and made some strange decisions with the ball, but we simply bullied them off the park in the second half and they stood no chance. IIRC de Gea made only one big save in the entire match.

Wooohooo!!!

Happy days. We are going to win on Sunday too. I’ll take these minor cups to galvanise the group for next season. We still have a decent chance in the league run in too. Actually an exhilarating season. Thank you ETH! Well done the lads for really playing for each other and leaving it all on the pitch game after game

Was that really the runaway league leaders for La liga? How they have fallen.

We made that look routine.
To be fair, they're the best side in Spain by some margin. Their defense has been arguably the best in the world as they've only conceded 7 goals total all season so far.

They conceded 4 times over 2 legs against us and we were the better team through both.

Think it's more a reflection of what Xavi was saying this past week, that we're genuinely becoming one of the better sides in Europe under ETH.

Only Premier League team to win a European knockout match against the best opposition of any of those other sides

Great result/win, 1st half was a bit flat, 2nd much much better, good subs, ETH earned his paycheck tonight.

Few things irked me, DDG and passing, holy shit, the amount of pressure he is putting this team, just mental. Bruno seems cant finish from that wide position.

Fred - Speaker of post match gibberish, and only player on earth who has the potential to finish the season with more motm awards than appearances, due to frequently winning them for both teams

Antony - ffs use your right foot, no your RIGHT foo....oh never mind as I was saying the left is fine.

Martinez - he can't even give his team mate some water without doing it so aggressively it looks like someone force feeding a baby in some kind of child cruelty camp.

Rashford - guess he was due a game off from single handedly retiring half the opposition back 4.

Garnacho/Sancho - whichever one starts looks rubbish, and whichever one comes on to replace them looks great. Well in Garnacho's case looks like they've glued some cheese to their head in an attempt to blend in as a human, but still.

Lewandowski - I was underwhelmed. Why is he always flopping his body around and generally behaving like a fish?

The ref - what a weirdo. The penalty wasn't completely outrageous but he spent a good 20 minutes of the game making it illegal for Barcelona to lose the ball, then in the last 10 minutes seemed to decide everything any Barcelona player did constituted a foul.

All in all 100/10 to every player

as someone who still remembers the Kleberson era, having two Brazilians score and a third one dominate as always still feels fecking weird. But it's glorious

He almost did in fairness. He lost his footing slightly before he dived, if that hadn't happened I think he would have saved it.

I honestly think la Liga are just that shite right now. Barca look rattled every time we got at them, and both goals were bad mistakes. They and Madrid are just so far ahead of everyone else

Wow. That was fantastic. Great two legs of football. Dare I say we are finally getting to a place where we can compete in the Champions League again. Every other year since SAF has been premature.

I bet when Ten Hag plays whack-a-mole nothing gets a chance to pop up. My man Antony paid back a bit of that fee so many were moaning about, so glad for him tonight. It was a bit weird Sutton stating tonight Ten hag had dropped Antony recently for being out if form, was he not injured after the Palace game and working his way back?

Great games against a strong opponent and it feels great to come out with a win. It was a game where both teams didn't want to give opportunities to the oppo to press them in the defensive third and hence both teams went direct to win high regains. And that type of game suited Fred, who played very well.

Kounde I thought was really shaky over both legs for Barcelona. Frenkie de Jong played much better and the goalkeeper, Ter Stegen was brilliant and his distribution with both feet is also brilliant and he surely must be in the conversation as being one of the best ball playing keepers in the world. And his all-round profile as a keeper is something we need if we want to develop the first phase of the build up play to the positional play requirements of Erik ten Hag.
Ter Stegen should have saved both goals imo. I believe David would have.

Well that turned into a game to remember. It's hard to believe that was a qualifying round to get into the last 16 of the Europa League!

Second half the mentally was so great. Similar to us under SAF a lot of the time.

Tactically we can still improve a lot and we could get better players, but since Ronaldo left the mentality has been spot on.

He was the issue in that dressing room and Rashford seem to have turned into the star now.
