EL D Europa League Play-off 1st Leg

I was peeved at full time because I feel like we should have won. The defending for Barcelona's goals was awful. Also, Rashy not even getting a free kick when brought down through on goal.. outrageous.

However, having had time to think it through it was a very good result. Barcelona's 11 points clear atop of La Liga. No mugs, even if this ain't the Wembley 2011 vintage.

Just a shame UEFA binned away goals.

On another day we would have scored 5.
Apart from the last 10 mins Barca created almost nothing the goals were both feck ups from us. The second one most annoying.
Not scared of them in the least. If they are the best la liga has to offer well………….

I chuckled when Xavi took Raphinha, their most potent attacking threat, off for Ferran Torres when they were on the front foot after their second goal. Such Pep levels of self sabotage right there.

Disappointed by the draw. It's a good result but I thought we were a fair bit better than them on their own turf. Similar number of chances but we created the best chances by far. To think how many we had missing/unavailable and still be the better team... ETH is the one.

Bad news for Barca is United will be stronger in the second leg.

Martinez back, Shaw playing in his best position, Sabitzer back (maybe Antony/Martial) + Old Trafford makes United favourites.

So, again... Who from their team is unavailable for the next game? I know Gavi misses through suspension.
Gavi is out with suspension....Pedri will probably be out with a thigh strain. Dembele is out thru injury and Busquets is questionnable.

We'll have a fully rested Casemiro with hopefully Sabitzer and Fred in the middle. Probably Bruno, Marcus and Sancho as the wide players simply due to honestly no one else is available. Don't think they expect Antony to be fit for the second leg.

Id have snapped your hand off for a draw before the game, but after I’m gutted we didn’t get the win. That’s one of the most one sided reffing performances I’ve ever seen. Positives though are that United looked great going forward. Could and should have scored more. Got to take those chances. The conceded goals were completely of our own doing. Piss flapping about in defence. Just get shot of it. Overall, fairly happy with the way we took it to them instead of standing off. Wout clearly isn’t up to it but puts a shift in. AWB, one second awful them next ok then back to awful. Sancho looks lost at times, should have put his chance away, he’s looking like a busted flush already, hope he turns things around.

They’ve conceded 7 goals in 21 league games. That’s probably the best defensive record in Europe.

In a league with really only one decent side.....the other top teams fuking wilt when they play Barca

you saw tonight the defensive frailties they have. Araujo is decent....Alba is ancient, Alonso is poor defensively and Kounde shat himself everytime someone ran at him

A scoring draw 2-2 last year would have been absolutely brilliant with the away goals rule....means fuk all now so giving up that shit goal at the end stings a bit.

It's a shame we didn't win. We were clearly the better side. An outstanding performance for the most part, but that 2nd goal they scored was all us.

The ref had an incredibly strong first half, the best I've seen a ref at Camp Nou. Faded a bit, especially not calling a foul on Kounde when Rashford was running through on goal.

Great result, but still feels like we should have won.

Sure, i was just comparing in my mind with the barca 10 years ago and apart from Ter Stegen I'm not sure any of these guys would make that starting eleven

 not a one of these guys bar maybe Lewa would have stepped on the pitch for the barca side we faced during Fergie's spell. Those teams were damn near unplayable bc they knew each other so well and their ability to recycle the ball was second to none

Explain why that other decent side in La Liga has conceded over twice as many goals as “defensively frail” Barca so far this season?

Why do people keep doubling down when the facts prove they’re talking tosh? All over the caf tonight. Is it contagious?

it's not that complicated actually....simple fact that they spend the least amount of time defending in La Liga boasting 64.3% possession on average in the league

ALSO....Xavi has completely changed their pressing structure putting more emphasis on the front 6 to counter press high in the oppositions defensive third. That again is smart on his part due to a recognition of strengths and weaknesses.

I didn't say they were a poor defensive side, i said their back four are not as good. Xavi recognizes this and puts more pressure on the opposition higher up the pitch with the front six due to high rate of possession and controlling the pitch

Shades of the late 90s United team with the way we go out and attack Europe’s best. With shades of our early 00s attitude

Well done Manchester Utd. (I always support British teams in Europe if my team arn't playing) I think 2 away goals should see you through, even though it was a draw. I am impressed with your new manager I think he is the best one you have had in ten years.

We’ll be stronger in the second leg, they’ll be weaker.

We’ll be at home, them away.

I thought we played better than them generally. I’d have brough Garnacho when we went ahead as it would have made Barca think twice about overcommitting, but overall it was a great away performance.

Barcelona seemed un-prepared for a team taking it to them on their own pitch. We pressed them high up the pitch and could have scored 5 with better finishing.

I suspect that they are used to teams bending over in the Nou Camp.

Funny how we are disappointed with a draw. In years gone by, a draw away at Barcelona would be a great result. It still is.

How far we have come under Ten Hag is significant. Give him another transfer window and we will be up there challenging for the lot.

Away goals ain't a thing anymore bud.

Oh yes, I forgot - they don't count double like in the past. So what would happen if it was 1:1 at Old Trafford after 90 mins (so 3:3 overall) extra-time and pens?

Licha and Sabitzer is back. Huge huge advantage. Fred and Sabitzer are 2 pressing monsters.

It’s nice to feel like teams actually might fear playing us for a change. I don’t think Barca is particularly looking forward to the second leg…

Does taking away the away goals rule take away an edge to the games? A drawn first game kinda renders it null and resets? Should we not just have one leg ties in neutral places for more exciting games?

McAteer seems shook

You’ve got to remember, ex-player pundits like him spent the best part of 20 years, and their prime playing years, watching us dominate and win every trophy going; the mere prospect of us getting back to the top must be soul-crushingly awful for bitter cnuts like him.

Wonderful game of football. But Jesus is every Spanish team made up of whiny, cheating cnuts? How do La Liga fans put up with that shit week in week out

Their fans were screaming for even the most pathetic dives. They’re complicit.

Most enjoyable match I can remember for years. Gutted to not get a win, but now having had a couple of hours reflection I don't even care if Barca beat us next week. Tonight was the first time I can remember since Fergie (and arguably for about 20 years) that we went toe-to-toe with a European giant and at the very least matched them - and on another day might have scored 4 or 5 goals. Beautiful.
