Amazing win!

But red card should not mean one player less for the full game. This needs to change. Punish the player and let him hit the dressing room but bring on a other after a certain time, like hockey for instance.

So boring when every game is the same when one player is sent off.

Anyway, this must mean the world to the confidence of the players!

Glory Glory!

I think there's definitley a place in the game for red cards - but I do think they've lost all meaning nowadays.

For me a red card should be that you've done something either so completely game breaking (handballed on the line / brought someone down intentionally while they're running through on goal) or really violent (a terrible studs ups challenge etc.) that you no longer deserve to be on the pitch because of your actions.

Not defending Dalot, he was dumb, but really, he made two pretty harmless slide tackles - does that genuinely warrant being on the pitch anymore? I mean obviously I understand their bookable offences in todays game (though I think the first one is harsh) but yeah, I just think they're not really why a red card was introduced back in the day.

In extra time, we had a midfield of Zirkzee, Bruno and Amad, yet we kept Arsenal out.

It just goes to show you, sometimes its just about application. The players were brilliant today in how they pressed, how we defended and more importantly, how they reacted.

This is the best I have seen us play with 10 men in a very long time.

Was sitting among Arsenal supporters for this match at the Etihad. A few thoughts:
  • Hojlund was really disappointing right from warm up. He is *massively* short on confidence and honestly looked like a League One player who was too scared to play at such a big stage. I hope he doesn't go down the route of Rashford from a motivation perspective
  • Maz on the right was providing us absolutely nothing in the first half and everything was going down the left to Dalot making it very easy for Arsenal to crowd us out as they only had one flank to worry about
  • Amorim's team talk and changes at half time were great and the sign that we have a good coach
  • The goal came from Dalot moving to the right
  • Maguire was absolutely immense. Hard to overstate how much of a leader he was on that pitch, which is saying something given the last few years he's had at United
  • Arsenal supporters do try to make some noise but the acoustics at Emirates don't exactly help them
  • Plus there were obviously a LOT of weekend/ tourists that were there at the game. Pretty ridiculously quiet.
  • I was in a noisy stand and couldn't dare to move a muscle in favour of United. Dude next to me wanted to high five me when Arsenal equalized - I had to duck out of it. People probably thought I had a mental problem with how still I was throughout the game.

Something I've noticed watching on the tv for the last few games, we seem to recycle the ball back from the right hand side to the left successfully and the ball is either progressed to the final third or we chip it up to one of the forward players when the opposition hem us in. I don't know if that's because we have a lot of right footers playing on the left or something else, but it results in not a lot of attacks down our right side because we don't suck in the opposition to the left and then pass our way out to the right.

Not sure if it's mentioned here, but did anyone else notice Licha playing as an attacker during the dying stages of extra time.
Was him highest along with Amad, with Zirkzee going in midfield. Colleyer RWB and Maz LCB. Wasn't even for a particular phase of play, it was like that till the end.

He was struggling, either injured or with cramps, so it felt like we put him in a position to do as little harm as possible

Yeah I think he just had cramp - he was moving around but I imagine doing defensive actions would be a struggle.

If he was properly injured I doubt he'd have taken a pen.

I was in the Arsenal end many years ago when Lee Sharpe scored a hat-trick in the 6-2 win. Let's just say the guy next to me knew who I was supporting! He assured me they were going to come back from three down...

I was thinking this as we were making subs and yes , it shows that player application and work rate can trump needing certain players for a certain system.

I’ve said before, this is not a lower half of table squad, it looks more like a top 8-6 squad comfortably. But the toxic culture that was allowed to fester by multiple managers because of the club dysfunction, has been so hard to weed out. Think of the amount of times our team has showed up for certain games and then they go back to their usual sh*#z

I just hope now that Ruben can keep this going and build some Momentum. I’m sick of managers getting played by our squads and then dumped right back down again. Be great if we can go on a run, get a few wins in league and solidify top 8 in Europa.

I mean looking at things now, a decent FA cup run and a Europa league cup run (possibly win) really does feel doable. I do fear top 8 in league might be a bit of a stretch as we have to do a kind of 10 game winning game level run to make that happen but I’m not bothered much with high league position if we can win either cup.

A proper performance. Excellent from first to last. I'm sure Arsenal fans are wailing this morning but the better team won. Yes they missed chances, but how often have we done that in the past year?

The difference these past couple of weeks have been when the boss had time to train the lads has been enormous. If we win all three upcoming home games, I'll really start to think we've turned a corner. Maybe not the corner, but a corner.

Almost everyone got an 8 or more from me, but special praise for De Light and Maguire, neither of whom put a foot wrong. And Bayindir might have been weak for their goal but made two excellent saves on top of the penalties

At the point when we scored and had 11 on the pitch, Arsenal had zero shot on target. For those who thinks Arsenal played better than us in attack, we had them contained if not for Dalot.

Excellent, Just imagine adding a good striker and a couple of wing backs to this team.
All looking good and hopefully we maintain this spirit.

I think that was to make sure that everyone in our box was six foot plus, as we know that all Arsenal can do when they’re chasing a game these days is spam crosses. Clever management.

Exactly this. I always maintain, if the system is right for the players, they wont be as exposed. We can see that we looked like a solid team defensively, we have not looked that good in a while defensively.

RA has begun to change the culture, previous managers seem to have a special case for Rashford, now he has been told, he cant play.
For me, league position does not matter if we win the Europa, as long as I can see a style of play being developed.

As things stand, I see the style and what he is trying to do.

Arsenal being Arsenal. They have never really changed since Wenger, they are rather cultivating this. One of the most unlikable teams since ever. Just look at the back cover of Keowna book
I used to have some respect for them under Wenger, because they had players like Henry and Bergkamp, who despite playing for PL rivals at the time where enjoyable to watch. But yeah, they always had players like Keown for example who where just cnuts... but this team is filled with them. No wonder nobody likes them and always makes fun off them, not just us, I see it online, people genuinely don't like them. And not in the way they used to dislike us, because we won everything, they just aren't likeable. Bunch of cheats, that seem to use "dark arts" to win or boring tactics like play with 4 CBs at the back and hope for set piece goals.

The "invincible" team was full of cnuts and one of the most detestable teams in history. Lauren, Lehmann, Cole, Pires, Campbell, Silva, Reyes, Henry, Kanu. I hated every single one of the bastards.

That’s alot of thoughts for someone in the wrong ground .

With Amorim we have had good results against teams like City, Liverpool and Arsenal. But can we create a game against Southampton? I am looking forward to that game to see, where we are in a game like that.
And if it goes badly, resume posting in the Amorim thread about how he was a bad appointment, and that Frank would’ve been better?

Whatever follows this season, this match will stand out as a highlight to the dedication of our players, they presented a solid wall, 'every man a brick' .....that would not be defied.

Like many others fans I have been worried by our slide down the PL table, the worry we might finish up in a relegation battle and if so would this squad of players be up for the fight... all doubts were blown away yesterday.

Although the sending off was just about acceptable under the two yellow = one red rules; throughout the game the referee gave a number of dubious decisions to Arsenal, especially when it seemed an Arsenal player only had to 'fall down' within touching distance of a United player, to win a free kick.

Well done lads and to our travelling fans who were behind them all the way.

This is the reason I came up with too - after laughing for a good few minutes at it thinking my eyes were playing tricks on me. Arsenal went full Stoke ball during that last 15 minutes.

I had the misfortune of watching them stink up the place against Newcastle earlier in the week. Exact same approach. Amorim obviously watching too.

I assume that you mean the initial punch out from Bayindir being weak, as the deflection gave him no chance.

To be fair, as the game went on, I was getting more confident in Bayindir, I always feel that with Onana he could make a bad mistake at any time.

We certainly look much more like a team now, and Amorim hasn't brought any player into the club, yet.

It looks like either this transfer window, or in the summer, Rashford, Casemiro, Eriksen, Antony and Lindelof will probably leave the club, Kirkzee infuriates me. He appears to be quite skilful, but looks so lethargic. Hojlund tries hard, and I think there is a decent player in there, but we need a real proper striker, now.

It was certainly interesting that he brought Collyer on. I've been quite impressed with him, not so much in his abilities with the ball, but he looks like he could become a solid defensive midfielder, he doesn't shirk any physical contact, and hopefully his passing ability would improve as he got more games.

That was a really good game. At the end of the first half I said to my friends I thought Utd could win the game comfortably because Arsenal just seemed like they were robotic and predictable. I thought Maguire and De Ligt were great and Martinez seems to be getting better with every game. Disappointed in Dalot losing his head when he knew he was on a yellow and the ref wasn't being sympathetic to our players. Collyer seems really decent and I hope he gets chances ahead of Casemiro who maybe doesn't have the legs for the PL anymore. My criticism is that still our attacking play with a young striker doesn't seem to be working. Amazing effort from the lads.

I think there's definitley a place in the game for red cards - but I do think they've lost all meaning nowadays.
Think about it this way: subs have only been part of the game since 1958. Cautions and sending offs have been there from the beginning, clearly not to protect Cirque du Soleil performers.

He was struggling, either injured or with cramps, so it felt like we put him in a position to do as little harm as possible
A great victory but what price did we pay? Are Maguire and Martinez injured? Any others?

Superb result. The attitude and effort shown in the last two games has been perfect, need that to continue now in 'lesser' games.

Great to see Bayindir have his moment after what happened in the last game, Maguire and De Ligt were also outstanding.

I thought it was a nailed on yellow in real time. When you watch it back and realise he doesn’t actually touch Merino, it’s clear play acting that’s got him sent off.

United should come out and put a bit of pressure and call him a cheat, it’s a more blatant bit of cheating than the Havertz pen

But as we all knows, its United, so nothing will be made of it. But if Bruno had have done either of those, the papers would be rubbing their hands together.

Said it for years now, were reffed to different standards

You don't have to touch the offensive player for it to be a foul. The attacking player has a right to jump out of the way and avoid a tackle and still get the call.
