We're just not very good.

Expected to lose, lost.

There is absolutely no excuse now for a poor performance Thursday. After being told by many that resting players today is the right thing to do.. we have no reason as to why on Thursday night we should be fresh and going for it from the get go.

Made it easy for that bunch but it took a farcical deflection to beat us. Yet again we were bloody awful at corners and yet again we have no one who can go past a man. Woeful!!

Not the end of the world. Although you'd think it was by the matchday thread.

Full strength team against Vigo on Thursday and we should book a place in the EL final. If we're not going to make top 4, I hope Arsenal pip Liverpool to 4th spot.

Need a serious clear-out in the summer though. Jones, Smalling and Rooney have to go. Then question marks over a few others.

I really hope you're right and it works out for us. Bloody bricking it for Thursday now.

Mate. We were never going to beat arse, spuds and southampton away from home. Not all three AND have to play 2 EL semifinals in between.

Especially with us being down to 13-14 players.

Everyone is now hoping and praying for us to get to the EL final. A resounding win against celta at home will do alot to undo the damage done here today.

Not making excuses for Jose, but everyone needs to chill and remember that we had a tough game in Spain on Thursday night. It's difficult to put a team together with only 2 days prep. Also how is anyone going to manage a win when you have Rooney starting in midfield?

Jose is clearly talking shit otherwise he's told them to go out play like it's a dead rubber game.

Add Carrick, and Mata to that
It was Mata's first game back after an operation. I wouldn't read too much into his performance. Jones and Smalling can't do the basics of defending properly. They might be rusty, but they should still be able to do the basics. Carrick if he stays can only be a bench or easy team option.

If he didn't really care about the result today, why play so negative. May as well have a go and if we don't win at least we tried to.

What was the point in playing for a point if we need 3 or the manager doesn't care if we get 0?

Pathetic.

I think Mou threw this game before a ball was kicked. Instead minutes were given to players we may need in the EL: Mata, Martial, Jones and Axel, all of whom did OK in the circumstances and especially Axel.

Meh, I'm already over it. Arsenal fans will gloat and rightly so, but it doesn't really sting because they aren't doing much better than us. It's we who played a weakened team and it took a freak goal to break us down.

But we still have Spurs to play away from home, what if Rashford is to pull up in that game? Sometimes you have to play the percentages to give yourself the best chance.
What if we lose on Thursday 1-2? You just cant just pile your eggs all in one basket when we still had a chance to get 4th. We could of still lost today going for it, but I would of prefered to have given it a good go

After he gave that freekick away against Swansea, it amazing Rooney still gets a game. If Fellaini had not got banned Wayne would not get near the side.

We had no choice but to use him. Thats the problem with the team these last few weeks. Too many injuries and players needed to be rested.

Its sad to see none of these guys stepping up and taking their chance. Whether by lack of ability or lack of willpower.

Not arsed with the result, would have liked to win but we have a more important game to focus on. Don't think we would have made top four even if we beat them today tbh.

Disappointed Zlatan didn't get a single go against Le Arse. He'd have wrecked them good.

Was a nice little reminder how important Pogba is to us too, no link between midfield and attack at all this game.

Really disappointed. We just lost to a toothless and below par arsenal side. Not good enough. Won't be surprised if most of the players in today's line up are sold.

Tata Rooney, tata Carrick, tata smalling

Who cares? We took Rooney's Testimonial more seriously than that!

Cannot read anything into that game whatsoever. Main objective was just to get it out the way

That is painfully true. At least Valencia, Pogba, Rashford and Bailly will be fit for the Europa which is obviously the no1 priority at this point.

It's all on Jose now, he has essentially disregarded the league and thrown all of his eggs in the Europa basket. If we fail to win it the board will not be pleased. It's a risky approach but in fairness it's our most realistic chance of grabbing a CL spot.

One of those REALLY frustrating performances today. Rooney can feck off, parts of the game him and Mata had rings run round them. Slow lethargic and always a few seconds off the pace

Lingard. Sell Wellbeck and keep this Turkey ? Fml

Smalling not Utds standard.

Carrick too slow at driving the ball frward. Sideways or backwards bull shit for 90% of what he does.

Well Jose has chosen his path and now its up to him to make his gameplan work and deliver the Europa League trophy otherwise he will have failed massively at his first season with us.

I've tended to take Jose's side on most matters this season but I thought we were far too negative today.

I still agree with him resting players but we showed far too much respect to fecking Arsenal.

How many times this season has Rooney been given the lowest rating? It feels like it's almost every game he's played he's been the worst player on the pitch

Very bad, didn't think we could lose, penniless at the moment...

We need speed in attack. All the years we were winning trophies one thing we had was a quick tempo. Mata slows it down. I've always said this not just on todays performance. I appreciate he has scored some important goals over the last 3 years but hes not what we need to step back up to the top imo

I'm really backing Mourinho on this one. Winning this guarantees us nothing.... and even if we did...it's still a tall order to make top 4. Winning on Thursday guarantees us a final with the chance of not only making the CL but winning a trophy as well and as Rio always says about footballers...it's all about winning trophies because at the end of the day...that is what you show for your career, that is what they want to do. I can bet you every Arsenal fan at the moment would swap places regardless of their result against us today.

Rooney is the problem. Everything breaks down with him.

People not going to give credit to Mourinho for playing two youngsters in this match and handing out a debut?

This.

No wonder we've been constantly fighting for top four these last few seasons, with a captain like that. This is the kind of shit influence we have in the dressing room. Then Jose still plays him after that when he should have got a telling off and dropped! Rather he put one of the youth players in to make up the numbers.

Rooney will be gone in the summer. Could be followed by a few others as well.

Look their first goal was poxy. But at 1-0 we could always nick one. Darmian and Smalling were terrible for the second goal.

We still are missing a few men who will die for the club each match. That is what Jose is trying to build.

Agree totally. You show your kids and grandchildren medals, not league tables.
