PL D FA Premier League

West Bromwich Albion 2:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Two solid penalty claims ignored by the ref once again. Overall I didn't think we were that bad, West Brom had two shots on target all game.

Defense wank, RVP wank, LVG's nepotism for RVP wank. Blind excellent, bar his slips. Fellaini scoring a wondergoal. Mata and Januzaj incredibly shit.

A game that was must win, and two points dropped. Significant improvements or fourth place will be gone as fast as LVG can say 'philosophy'.

I think I would take Sunderlands defence over ours at the minute.

That defence could well cost us fourth.

Well done Fellaini.

Januzaj deserves to be benched again.

Sorry didn't see this thread.

I'm happy enough with that. We've got a shit defence and it's not working. RVP isn't working.

Predicted we would draw it but it's still frustrating given we dominated it and they had 2 chances.

Still, at least we actually fought back late on for once.

We just didn't look like getting the second and third goals. The fizz just went out of our play again.

Pretty disappointing given the tough run of games coming in. I fear for Sunday against Chelsea

Falcao must have been injured, he come on after 71 minutes. Too late.

Are we allowed to have a squad a work in progress with no European games, about 150 million spent and 5/6 first team players moved on?

What can you say. RvP shouldn't start. Mata shouldn't even be on the bench. Januzaj will probably not start a game again this year.
Falcao has to start.
Defence is wank.

2 great goals

We're getting better in terms of possession and creating chances but still long way to go in terms of defending. We gifted them two goals from nothing. Draw was a fair result I think.

Fellaini and Blind scoring. Who would have predicted that?

Disappointing but it was a point gained in the end. I don't think we'd have got the equaliser last year and at least we looked like we could go on to score the winner.

You don't get anywhere defending like that. The second goal especially was ridiculous to concede especially at a time where we looked like scoring and winning the game.

This is by far the most annoying part.

But I know you know that. :)

Could have been worse I suppose, least the team dominated which wouldn't have happened last year

We weren't that bad but would just like to see us press the opposition when we don't have the ball, all a bit easy for West Brom and better teams will punish us more than they did.

Disappointed with Mata's and Januzaj's performance, was hoping they'd stake a claim for a starting place

RVP form is becoming an issue, Mata hasn't grasped his opportunity, and Januzaj didn't make an impression on the game. Really disappointing, and we seem to be reliant on Di Maria for any form of inspiration. Blah

concerns defensively, some signs of improvement, could have won. not getting the breaks

Terrible performance. I'm sorry, but the thing that pissed me about Moyes the most is his hoofball play style. Why, why do we play the whole match with long passing and constant crossing against a team that sits in its half with 11 men? Wtf was Van Gaal thinking? Yes, sure, we were unlucky to concede from 2 chances, but f*ck me... constant hoofball.

And btw, we laugh at Liverpool but now things will get ugly. Liverpool are 1 point ahead of us and which way tougher fixtures while we squandered our best season start since decades...

EDIT: Mata is a complete liability - too slow, loses the ball way too easily and I can honestly see why Mourinho sold him to us. Another Mourinho tactical master stroke .

Januzaj was sh*t, but that's what happens when you play so little. Hopefully Van Gaal sends him on loan, it's better than him just sitting on the bench. Daley Blind trying to be Paul Scholes constantly is annoying. Shaw... wtf? Di Maria didn't play well. And Robin Van Persie... oh God.

We didn't actually have more chances than them. We created feckall in fact.
It was mostly crosses and half chances from hoof balls/deflections.

has to be seen as a point gained when you play averagely and score late on.

Keeps us a mere point off top 4.

Although there is that massive elephant In the room of who we've played so far.

Would snap the hands off being 1 point off top 4 in 4 games time!!!

Our attacking play was decent and we could have had a few more. RvP's floundering in the box from Lescott's mistake and hitting the post later on come to mind.

However, our defense is atrocious and can easily cost us 4th place. Each time the opposition attack, they look like scoring. Top teams like Chelsea and City will rip us apart.

We look like scoring a few every game but with a leaky defense, we can't be expected to score 3+ every time.

Lacking confidence defensively, no Rooney, Di Maria and Falcao jet lagged, RvP in decline - probably a fair result all things considered.

One big mistake each from Rafael and Rojo cost us 2 points today. Overall I think we played ok in the second half we were the better team and if RVP shot had gone in instead of hitting the post or we would have been awarded the penalty for the handball we could have walked away with all the 3 points today.

Our defence cost us again.

I think the ease in which West Brom scored both goals clouds over the fact that we battered them for the most part. We need our supposed top players to step up as well though.

Just poor stuff in the final 3rd. Mata and RVP just haven't been good enough to start and Falcao came on way too late.

I just hope Di Maria's substitution was just precautionary.

Everyone except Di Maria had an off day. This could be worse than losing 2 points if Di Maria is out injured. United lack any sort of spark or pace without him.

While i dont want to go overboard with the criticism of januzaj his decision making tonight was poor.
Too many times he went looking for a world class pass when a simple one into feet would be as good or better.
Hes just trying a bit too hard (maybe trying to impress the manager).
He needs to go back a bit and start doing the simple things well which is what was impressive when he broke through.
Dont overcomplicate things.

Wasn't too impressed with mata tonight.
We seemed to be playing a 4-2-3-1 tonight which should be ideal for him but he was anonymous.
Just disappointing, he's capable of better.

The opposition have belief and seem to score every chance.

How is this?

Couple of thoughts.

Van Persie's terrible form and un-undropable status is seriously hampering our team's play and progress. Every attack is either ended when he gets on the ball or he's too lethargic to move and receive the ball. LvG is really making a mistake here. Falcao, a world class striker, is sitting on the bench when Van Persie is either loosing the ball or falling down whilst trying to control the ball. In the 20 minutes that Falcao came on, he played better than Van Persie did in the entire game. Better link up play and all around better performance.

Jones is a liability and will never be a constant first choice central defender for us. Forget his injury record, forget his general retardness during games. He just doesn't have what it takes. Compare him to Rio/Vidic/Stam/Brown/O'Shea. Some of those mentioned were squad players who played better than him.

Januzaj was terrible, absolutely terrible. Received the ball. Stopped. Shoulder checked left. Stopped. Passed it back.

The team had no urgency to get back the 2nd goal until Blind's goal. Nothing, zero urgency, only Falcao was noticable in this aspect as he was running after balls and pressing.

Thank God for Fellaini and Blind.

On the plus side:
  • Falcao looked good when he came on, hopefully he should start vs Chelsea
  • Fellaini didnt look like a complete idiot when he came on
  • Jones got some minutes on the board
  • Blind continues to impress and his goal was really well taken.
On the bad side:
  • Our defense appears to make opposition attackers look like Falcao, RvP, Mata and Di Maria. While other teams defenders make our attackers look like Sessegnon, Berahino and Morrison
  • Januzaj looks like hes pulled a Cleverley and has gone backwards and then some
  • We still look disjointed and dont appear to have the balance in the team right yet
  • RvP just hasnt looked right since SAF left...
