Yes everyone played shite but Evans IS shite that's the difference, and I can see very clearly thank you very much!
Ah ok gotcha, everyone played shite, but because you don't like Evans he was the worst player on the pitch. Even though he clearly wasn't despite the fact he has been out for nearly three months.

Every game he has played this season he has been garbage and apart from about 10% of his United appearances I have always felt that way. I have no personal dislike towards him at all, he actually seems like a nice guy on interviews, MUTV etc - he is just not very good and yes I would say he was the worst player of a bad bunch, RvP being the best.

Southampton just laid out a blueprint to every other team in the league on how to make us look very, very ordinary. We simply can't handle being pressed.

Jury is still out on Van Gaal to me. I love watching him talk about football, I could do it all day. However, I find it very difficult to understand how we choose to persist with 3 at the back when it clearly does far more harm than good. We could have been looking at two 3-0 defeats at Arsenal and Southampton and could have had no complaints if that is what had happened.

Happy with the winning streak and the league position of course, but we are still a long, long way from being a team that will challenge for the big trophies.

It does surprise me that players of this ilk, the ones that got through to playing at a top level while thousands of others were discarded and told not good enough, can actually pass that badly. I mean...I reckon LVG was flabbergasted at it to be honest. It was like suddenly a whole load of them had forgotten how to play the basics...

Considering Arsenal and Soton both handed us goals on the platter, I don't see how we could possibly have lost either game 3-0. 3-2 would have been possible if they had better strikers which they don't.

If you truly believe that he has been ‘garbage’ in all but 10% of his games then you have no right to tell people to ‘open their eyes’ to Evans. He has constantly performed to a high standard and is regarded by many as the Clubs best defender for the last few years. You may not dislike him as a person but surely you can’t deny that you judge his performances with a tinted view, I bet you criticise him more for a mistake than you would for any other player, that is clearly the case when you say he was the worst player on the pitch yesterday.

As for last night, Mata, McNair, Rojo, Fellaini, Valencia, Rooney all worse than Evans despite him being out for the last 9 games

That pass from Fellaini that resulted in their goal was one of the worst passes I can recall in the last few years, he had clear sight, no one was close enough to be considered a threat and he gives the ball away like that.

We can handle it to a reasonable extent, we did it quite well when Blind was holding, he's fantastic under pressure. Carrick isn't and anything he's holding and we're pressed, we struggle.

Don't care, we won. If we stink the league out for the rest of the season and qualify for CL, job done. There's not a person on this forum who wouldn't have taken that last season.

One of our problems is that our players are a bit too inconsistent, I don't know why. Then, Juan Mata, a lovely guy and good player, but like Kagawa, he's not going to do it for United and to be brutally honest, I've not seen him have a good game for us, he has not shown anything close to what he did at Chelsea, I've given up on Evans [I know he's returning from injury etc] but he's not that good. I don't know if Smalling will ever get over his injury problems, it's becoming a joke now..Our attacking players are not creating chances, for me it's the biggest worry. I hate this safety first approach we have adopted, how many times did Mata simply receive the back, turn back and pass backwards? Fellaini too and almost everyone was doing this last night. Possession is pointless if you won't use it to hurt the opposition. If I was LVG, I'll find a way to get Januzaj and Di Maria into the team, they have pace, can dribble and have the ability to trouble defenders. And LVG has to keep working on our passing, we are the worst "big" team in terms of passing the ball, it's painful to watch at times.

I think the performance was terrible, there is no getting away from that but when you look at it from a distance you can understand why. We had two wingers playing fullback, because of that we had to play 3 CB’s one who is 19, the other is getting used to the Premiership and the third went off injured after 18 minutes, to be replaced by a player who was out injured for 3 months.

Then we had Fellaini giving away suicide balls, which put more and more pressure on the defence, Mata decided to go on the pitch but not play and Rooney thought we changed our kit to red and white stripes to celebrate Christmas. Despite all this we still won.

Actually Ashley Young was very very good today. The issue is with our constant, unavoidable rotation of CBs. Pretty much all of their chances came from sloppy passes, and pretty much all of the sloppy passes with the exception of Fellaini's terrible pass came from the back 3.

If Young was "very good" then we have very different definitions for it. Long had a field day at his side of the pitch and Young's crosses, bar one, were all very average. He didn't take on his defender a lot and made a god awful pass in midfield which we nearly conceded from. Yes he was better than most of our outfield players but that does not make his performance good. Simply that all our other attackers apart from RvP were horrible.

If I look through tinted glasses what do you do exactly - are you Mr Evans because you are taking this rather personal!?

Well many think he is gash also so I guess he splits opinions and for the ones who believe he is the clubs best defender than that surely shows how poor our defenders have been, for me Vidic and Ferdinand until their final games were our best CBs not Evans.

Those players you quoted did have mares but every time the ball went near Evans he panicked, he caused the whole defence to be jittery when he arrived on the pitch, rustiness is no way an excuse for sheer panic, what excuse did you afford him for his brain farts against the mighty MK Dons?

Ludicrous. For a winger playing out of position he was by far our best defender and very comfortable on the ball too. I'm far from a Young fan but midst the shower of shite that every other outfield player (bar RvP) served up out there, he was most definitely very good and handled his defensive responsibilities excellently.

I didn’t defend him against The Dons, but I haven’t brought it up as a reason to beat him with every time he plays a game of football. The whole defence was jittery before Evans came on FFS, did you watch the game? I’m starting to think you didn’t.

I watched every horrible minute of it and yes Saints were on top but nowhere near to the degree they were after Evans arrival. Evans has performed to such a low standard in all 4 games he has played this season and yes I have watched every match from start to finish!

Obviously this is a conversation between Jonny Evans number one fan and one of his lesser fans. We will just keep going around in circles with me bashing him and you kissing his arse. We can continue or stop....?

 Well that confirms it.

So you have given up on the Evans defending and you are now trying to make yourself feel better by claiming some sort of maturity victory over me.

Also adding Smilies doesn't really help your conviction in anyway. What's next a Lol?

My God, you really are a child, and if you’re not then by feck you have some growing up to do.

Sorry but Evans was not the worst player on the pitch. Fellaini and Mata definitely worse. Mane for Southampton was probably the worst player on the pitch for both sides.

Proves the point though doesn't it? We have two away wins this season, both of which have come from enormous elements of fortune at both ends of the pitch. If those matches showed results which reflected the balance of play, we are still looking for our first away win and we are 6 points worse off.

I'm happy that we are winning matches without playing well. Its a good sign. However, lets not get carried away. Last night was as bad if not worse than anything we produced under Moyes. Southampton looked a considerably more balanced and effective team. We won because we are fortunate enough to have expensive talent that can find a moment of excellence when we need it.

Mata had one of those nights that highlight why Mourinho didn't want him in the team. Not enough effort and he let players past him on too many occasions. He isn't a player that you want around when you are up against it.

My God, you really are a child, and if you’re not then by feck you have some growing up to do.

You keep biting and keep trying to have the last word, but I need to grow up!?

Just give up already, you are obviously a very sad idiot who cannot take any comments about a player if they are not echoing yours and when your actual football reasoning runs out your try to offend to make yourself feel better.

I actually feel sorry for you.

Yeah definitely agree. Too soft, some nice little touches but he was invisible.

Insult the post not the poster, tut tut.

I'd rather see Januzaj playing his role. He needs minutes and I think he can offer us at least the same as Mata will in that position.

Very frustrating night for Mata, I genuinely forgot he was playing at times. He really needs to play in his best position otherwise he has a habit of becoming a passenger. IMO he will play a very important role in LVGs team, he seems to click well with Herrera. Fingers crossed we will see the benefit of it next season after they get a bit more familiar with each other.

I'm not sure he'll get the chance to see the start of next season with us. He's one of our best saleable assets and if we want to spend big we may need to sell to keep within FFP.

Januzaj for those difficult away games would be better. We needed a bit more pace too on the counter. We played a formation that was more suited to the counter but had no pace at all.

I don’t think FFP will affect us will it? At the moment our squad isn’t deep enough to cover all games next season (assuming we will be in the UCL) I’m sure he will stay and we will add a few more additions to the squad.

Our only two away wins this season are the game where we played absolutely shite. When we looked good against Leicester and West Brom we managed to cock it up.

We'll keep up with FFP anyway but I expect us to sell Mata at the end of season, he just doesn't fit in here as effective as he has been. He's mostly getting into the way of superior players (Rooney and Di Maria) recently, both can play in the positions he occupies and he needs to have a team built around him to be fully efficient. I like him but I'm starting to think he's not going to work out here.

. I like him but I'm starting to think he's not going to work out here.
I hope you’re wrong :(
Personally I think he’s at his best when the game is played at a high tempo. When we have played that style of football this season we have been at our best, I think he could play an important part in our future.

That's my point, his performance was relatively good since all our other attackers were absolutely shite but if I just see his play in isolation I found it quite poor. He is played as a defender because he is absolutely toss as a winger nowadays. Pretty much like Valencia in that sense. I do agree that he has been better the last couple of games but I don't think he was even close to being "very good" in this match. If that performance is classed as such, then the standards have fallen far too much.

Yes but realistically we'd need to move Rooney up front and play 4231 for Mata to be effective. Alternatively we could try 4312/41212 again because he looked very comfortable in that formation. 433 or 352 and Mata won't work out, in 433 there's no position in midfield he could occupy and he's not a winger, in 352 he is left with not enough choices.
