Possible replacements for de Gea

Has to be Hugo.

It's a shame a youth keeper will likely never get a crack here because Sam Johnstone and Joel Pereira are both outstanding prospects.

Would you want Sam Johnstone to be our number 1? Pereira has a better chance imo, watched him a couple of times looks solid.

I'd go Scuffet or Karius. Both would be happy playing understudy for Valdes while they get used to a new country and both have superb potential.

Ron Robert Zieler. Not on the same level as De Gea, but still an excellent keeper.

Have we sold Sam Johnstone? I know he still has a lot to prove at the top level, and wouldn't be ready until a PL loan perhaps, but I always thought he had massive potential.

Has to be Lloris with Courtois obviously a no go

Lloris, Courtois and Neuer are the only ones who are anywhere near De Gea and two of them are unavailable. But we should just keep Dave.

it is a bullshit, he will not leave, not for another 3 years. I see pointless to discuss it but I would bet would like to see Ceilesen here. I would give chance to Sam Johnstone he is great young goalkeeper impressing on every loan he has been to. He is definitely better than Foster and surely than Amos. Cech could do the trick for couple of years also. BUt I guess de Gea won't leave we will give him big mone contract he deserves and start to play champions league again and we need to keep him happy. I guess we can do that..

DDG will stay so noone at least for a few years.

Lloris is the only option that could transition into the #1 role seamlessly IMO. The young keeper from Genoa is rated as Italy's next #1 but I imagine he'll be off to Juve soon enough and I'm not familiar with the German lad @Invictus posted but if we are going young he might be an idea, and then there's Begovic I guess, meh, I just want De Gea to stay. :(

Only Cech, Coutrios and Lloris are good enough to replace De Gea. We need to learn from past mistakes and get a world class GOAT replacement of a goalkeeper as we all know how vital they are.

If we actually replace De Gea with Valdes then I'm done, this is exactly why we are so bad right now and having to spend millions, we keep replacing top quality players with decent ones.

Spuds will never sell to us again lol, We have zero chance of Courtios, which leaves Cech as the only keeper who would be realistic and probably willing to move.

LVG can feck off if he doesn't replace De Gea properly or get him to sign a new contract

EDIT- It would be brilliant if our scouting system identifies a good young goalkeeper with massive potential again like with De Gea, but with the state of our defence these days it would seem unlikely, and I would hope we go for experience.

My money would be on Valdes replacing him as the #1 this summer, and a new back-up keeper being signed.

I think cech is achievable for a good price. Lloris if we want to spank our money to spurs again.

Get Navas from Real Madrid, he is great and relatively young. He doesn't deserve to be on the bench.

Casillas might not be a bad choice either. He is bound to be pissed off when Real replace him.

Seeing as we are making things up, I'd probably bring in Lloris and Courtois as back up to Neuer.

I think Valdes can be a solid keeper for us for a couple of seasons. In the meantime we could get a young, promising keeper and loan him out until he's ready for the first team ala Courtois.

Lloris.

Usually I hate the Premier League proven, Wednesday night at Stoke argument, but in the case of goalkeepers I think it's a valid argument. We only have to look at De Gea to see the struggles that come with playing in this league as all his early issues were directly attributed to the physical nature of the Premier League. With Lloris there will be no time needed for him to adapt to a new style which is a huge plus. Sure Levy will bend us over, but if we sold De Gea every club will do the same because they'd know we'd be desperate for a new goalkeeper. As an example if we went for Begovic, Stoke would probably ask for 20 Million. Lloris would cost a bomb, but I'd rather spend money on quality rather than still get ripped off on a transfer fee and end up with a lesser player. It's this attitude that lost us Hazard and brought us Ashley Young (with all due respect to Young).

...

Nail on the head.

Whatever happened to Jack Butland? He was talked of as the next big thing a year or two ago. Was the hype unjustified or is he still considered a top prospect?

If Madrid pay £50M as rumored, I would say we add another £10-15M and go for Neuer - Bayern will sell him if the offer is for £60M+. He is the best in the world and has a potential to become the next Schmeichel for us.

Good one.

Why don't we just pay the £65m to Real to prevent them signing de Gea?

I think we'll end up having to 'settle' for Valdes as first choice for a season or two (probably LVG's reign), but I would hope that we chuck a lot of the money we get for Dave at Chelsea or Spurs for Cech/Lloris. I think they're the only two potentially available keepers that are anywhere near as good as de Gea.

This is such a depressing thread.. only 24 and we're already discussing his replacement. Feck Madrid.

I don't see your logic, why would we pay £65m to Real just to keep our current player? On the other hand if Real pay us £50m for DDG and we pay £65m for Neuer, than we practically pay £15m for an upgrade on DDG. I would like for DDG to stay, but if he is hellbent to go to Real, then lets try to make the best out of it.

Valdes then Vanja Milinkovic-Savic ( yes 100% biased here)

I'd honestly rather Valdes than Cech tbh

If De Gea signs a new deal with a clause that he can leave next year(if Real pays up), then that gives us one and a half year to find a replacement, or for the kids to impress.

By the start of the 16/17-season Johnstone will be 23, Pereira will be 20 and Milinkovic will be 19.

However, if none of them are ready I would go for Zieler who even counts as homegrown.

If you go young again then Brend Leno, mattia Perin or Simone Scuffett
Or go more experienced then Lloris or diego Alves

Asmir Begovic

Unquestionably proven in the league, and fits the desired profile as regards age and quality at a time when stability would be important. It's not unduly disrespectful to say that he's wasted at a team of Stoke's stature.
He's not proven at the highest level, no guarantee he will have the bottle to deal with the pressure at Man Utd. Think he will, but people were talking highly Simon Mignolet and he has been a bit of a flop at liverpool

Because there's no chance we'd get Neuer.

Not for all the apple sauce in Glückenschabbel.

I see people have not caught up my Navas suggestion. Why not? We could easily get him, there'd be no point for him at Real Madrid if De Gea goes there and he's been an excellent keeper for a while. Probably the best goalkeeper of the World Cup and brilliant for Levante before inevitably going on the bench after a move to Madrid. He had the best stats in La Liga for two seasons in a row I think.

He'd be a brilliant signing IMO.
