Possible replacements for de Gea

I know... it is depressing.

I think we need to adopt a policy where we shouldn't really bank on extremely talented young spaniards for a long term future with us. They all inevitably want to go back and some go back much too soon. I would love for De Gea to stay another four or five years before making that leap to Madrid.

The best place to look for goalkeepers for us would be France, Germany and Holland. All countries have similar climates. Similar cultures for the most part and they're a two air flight away from Manchester. Dutch keepers have long had a tradition of greatness and they love England. A word of caution to Bavarian goalies though. They love their Bayern and will at some point fancy a move there.

Of course, the best way would be to produce our own. Vanja Milinkovic looks a prospect. He's an absolute GIANT of a man and only 18 or something. Has quite a bit of agility as well. Should be interesting.

A goalkeeper's position should never ever fetch that kinda fee. That would be maddening!
 
Ter Stegen might be worth a bid. He is not playing for Barca and will probably want to leave as soon as possible but they probably won't sell before they can buy a new backup. Still think he is a good goalkeeper with a lot of potential might be though that he can't quite cut it yet at a big club.

has to be Lloris (unless we can magically whisk Neur away)

outside punt, Schmeichel is an underated keeper
 
IF he leaves this season or the next, we must go for Cech. Still a top keeper and would bring some semblance of experience in that backline along with a winner's mentality. In the mean time, hope someone like Johnstone can step up or maybe even Pereira.
 
I think Spurs would rinse us if we tried getting Lloris.

I agree with you, I thought that we could eventually ask Navas in an eventual transfer. And if De Gea goes on a free then we can buy Navas for a dozen of millions, Begovic or one of the germans young goalkeepers are also an option.

Lloris would be to expensive and someone like Handanovic will struggle with all the crosses.

Yes, but numerically, you replace De Gea with whom ? Because you never know, Valdes can fail to replace De Gea.
 
I like Valdes and all. But swapping him for Super Dave is swapping someone who's already one of the best keepers in the world, who's getting better and has like over a decade left in him and who is really giving his all for the club and seems to be one of the very few "true reds" left, for someone who's still world class but is 31 and has spent most of his career at one of the few bigger clubs than us. Seems crazy to me when we don't even need the money we'd get for Dave.

I'd be happy with Cortoir (however you spell it), but no way in hell are Chelsea gonna let us have him without us directly funding their next 3 season's worth of transfers.
 
I'd just spend all the money trying to tie Dave down but I'd take Lloris or a younger talent like Leno/Timo Horn.

Yea, i believe he went on a free transfer or something. Has turned into an excellent keeper, just about the right age with experience.

Poor lad was inundated by injuries. never got his time in the sun for us. Went on to do really well, so It'd be nice to see him back.
 
If we can't get him signed on, I can only think of Lloris as replacement! Still have some Hope he stays at least another season. Fingers crossed!

Ok he's gone, who do we go for next summer to replace him because Navas and Romero don't scream long term solutions
 
Just buy Lloris next summer. Hope that between Navas, Romero and Valdes/Johnstone? they can not be shit.
