Possible replacements for de Gea

Right so i'm pretty much sure that our Dave will be gone possibly this summer or the one after that even if he renews (see Ronaldo, Suarez to FCB etc) this means the club needs to act quickly to bring in a replacement for him. Top keepers are a rarity and I honestly dont think we can replace him with someone of equal or better quality but we would to bring in a new #1 as we all know Valdes cant cut it.

So who would you like to see come in for Dave? Lloris is a very good GK but Spurs are a bitch to negotiate with. Begovic might be a good option hes proven in the prem and is a decent all round keeper. Handanovic is old but hes a good shot stopper and I think Inter would listen to offers at the very least.

I dont know about any young upcoming keepers so feel free to share.

Has to be lloris. Prem proven, Young, and good distribution. As well as a heck of a shot stopper

Don't know why you've dismissed Valdes so easily.

Hes 33 coming off a knee injury and even at his peak he was prone to errors although hes a remarkable shot stopper imo. I think he was signed as a fallback option incase DDG leaves and we couldnt replace him for whatever reason.

Lloris for me as well. Has something about him.

I haven't dismissed the idea that DDG will stay. I think and hope he will.

However, in the event that he does leave we have got his replacement in already. If you watched Valdes before his injury you will know how good he is. We obviously don't know how well he has recovered but we can only assume that LvG has been impressed by what he has seen in training so far for him to be offered a contract.

Seriously, he was awesome last season, and could easily have a good 5+ seasons left at the top level.

28 is not that young. I know VDS arrived when he was over thirty etc but i just want someone like De Gea or Courtois who really is young and wants to prove himself like DDG did.

That's the thing which scares me the most.

Crouch would be scoring for fun against us.

Why do people keep acting like he's leaving? Has there been absolutely anything of actual substance to suggest he might leave, other than a shit load of paper talk?

I think he'll be our number one for the next few seasons at least, and I'm not really sure why people think otherwise.

I don't think Handanovic would do too good in the PL, he's not very good at crosses.

Cech would be great, and I think he'd want to come and Chelsea would let him come, considering the service he gave to them.

Other than that, Begovic or Lloris.

Lloris? Of course we'd find it impossible to get a replacement as good, but Lloris is relatively young though 4 years older than de Gea and he would cost an obscene amount given we'd be dealing with Spurs.

Have we really resigned ourselves to de Gea actually leaving?

it'll be Valdes!

Well known to LVG, well know to jis coaching staff and comfortable with (dare i say it) the philiosophy.

Lloris for me. Certainly not as good, but it isn't easy / possible to upgrade on De Gea should he leave which IMO is more and more likely the longer his contract isn't renewed. Even if it is renewed, it's just going to be one of those rumours that never go away.

I'd be okay with Victor Valdes being #1 for a couple of seasons in case De Gea leaves.

Meanwhile we could sign someone like Loris Karius, who is one of the top young goalkeepers in Europe - former City player, current German U-21 international, and has been very impressive for Mainz. Good command of the box, reads the attackers well, quick reflexes and is becoming increasingly consistent - a key for young goalkeepers. Germany has a great track record with developing top goalkeeping talent and Karius is IMO the next in line after the likes Neuer, ter Stegen, Leno etc and has been better than Timo Horn this season.

A keeper in his prime would be a safer choice but in going for someone like a Lloris, there's always the sense of Levy fleecing United to the extreme, even to the amount of De Gea's total transfer fee if he senses desperation, considering Lloris just penned a new 5 year contract in 2014.

Karius for me wouldn't cost much, isn't exactly a punt given his generally good performances to date and has a good chance to become on of the top keepers in the world sharpish.

I guess I consider that pretty young for a gk. Can easily get 10 years out if him. The issue is getting someone that will hit the ground running and for me. It's either him or cech, and being that he is younger and better at distribution, I would take him at the moment.

Surely the club wouldnt have just allowed him to run down his contract considering how valuable he is to us, from this vantage point one can only infer that he/his agent have been stalling on a new deal as his performances/value has been on the rise. Only two possible conclusions here its either that he wants more money out of the club or that he wants to return to his native city and country. Considering the situation with his girl friend its not unlikely that he wants to move. RM are massive club and any player would be tempted to play there, he'd get a similar or possibly better wage package over there along with the comfort of being home.

Like I said in the original post, I think he'll either leave this summer or renew for 4-5 seasons only to leave in 2 or something to that effect. Since we have a good relationship with him and his agent the renewal is possible so that we can maximize our returns from the transfer fee because as it stands there is really no reason for Madrid to splash out on him if they can get him for free in 2016.

Tottenham would make us pay an obscene amount for Lloris. I say go for a talented young GK like what we did with De Gea.
However, I'm hopeful De Gea will stay and sign a new contract.

It's going to be Valdes, obviously
I'd like Lloris but Spuds are a pain to deal with.

Loris would be #1 but Levy would probably demand £35M+ for him.

We've just signed him.

If I had my way it'd be Cech. He's still the third best goalkeeper in the division and there'd be no worries about an adaptation period.

How unfortunate that the goalkeeper we bought to be our future is destined to be Real Madrids future goalkeeper

Asmir Begovic

Unquestionably proven in the league, and fits the desired profile as regards age and quality at a time when stability would be important. It's not unduly disrespectful to say that he's wasted at a team of Stoke's stature.

I'm not doubting anything you said there, it is all a possibility. Until there is anything concrete though, it's just all a bit premature for me.

As attractive as RM is to a Spanish player, there is still plenty to keep him too. I disagree with Madrid paying him more. I think we could, and would, pay more than them. His family is very settled over here by all accounts, and we have an increasingly good sized Spanish contingent at the club, who all get on well. The area most our players live is really nice too (although I'm sure some people genuinely believe they live on a council estate or something).

He might leave us eventually, but as you say, if he does then it will likely be after resigning, which would mean we'd get top money for him and at least a couple more seasons with him here. By then, Keepers people might want now, could well be no longer preforming at the required standard we'd expect here... Like I say it's just a bit premature for me.

Loris but he would probably cost us basically what we get for De gea and that would be such a cop out. Petr cech is still outstanding other than than your looking at maybe handanovic :/ The hope is valdes returns to form however.

Maybe it is premature for us to discuss it although that is pretty much the nature of all speculation until it becomes a reality for me the facts lead towards this. The club on the other hand must act now by both simultaneously trying to get him to re-sign and feeling out potential replacements.

If Madrid pay £50M as rumored, I would say we add another £10-15M and go for Neuer - Bayern will sell him if the offer is for £60M+. He is the best in the world and has a potential to become the next Schmeichel for us.

Has to be Hugo.

It's a shame a youth keeper will likely never get a crack here because Sam Johnstone and Joel Pereira are both outstanding prospects.

No one has a clue what's going to happen with De Gea

Isn't Cech having to manage the effects of arthritis to one of his elbows? It could be inviting trouble to sign him.

If we were to sign a replacement from the league: my heart says Schmeichel, my head says Lloris.

Whilst I hope DDG stays, I can see him playing for RM next season.
Lloris would probably cost more than we get for DDG, given the length of his remaining contract.
I'd like to see Begovic come in and see how he and Valdes get on. I thing Begovic would be good cover for a season or two while the club identify a suitable long term replacement. Such a shame we don't have a player at the club we could call on.
