Which striker should we buy ?

I am getting slightly worried, if we dont purchase a top striker, the pressure on Rooney is going to be immense, he is basically required to have a 25+ goal season or we will fail on most fronts.

Way too risky to go into a season with Rooney and wilson and an injured hernandez.

Sturridge, Benteke and firminho is much better than that.

I'm not worried about Rooney. He's used to being the main man for United now.

He's proved on a constant basis that he can score plenty of goals when played up front. 27 league goals each season where he played as striker all season.

What are the other striker options for the poll ?

Good question, as the other option would obviously mean us purchasing another striker - then it would all depend on the signed striker on how people would vote.

Edit: Maybe 'Would you want to keep Chich, regardless of whether we sign another striker'

I don't want a striker at all. I'd prefer a wide forward like Reus, Griezmann or Felipe Anderson.

You can't buy a top quality striker and expect him to sit on the bench all season.

But you can buy a top quality wide forward and rotate him with Depay, Rooney and Mata as and when the situation demands. We need quality not just warm bodies.

its really not, Sturridge is proven, proven that he cant stay fit for longer than 1/3 of the season. He is unreliable

LFC havent officially signed Benteke yet, but if they do, it remains to be seen how he will fit into their style and if he can handle it.

Firmino? interesting player but remains to be seen whether he will settle in England, the PL and how he is integrated into the team

Rooney on the other hand, scores 20+ goals every time he plays a season at CF, with a strong set of wingers and midfielders behind him

Rooney will have a great season providing he stays fit and plays up top. The midfielders and wingers we have now are very, very exciting.

However I'd still like us to bring in another good forward to give us more options... I chose Lacazette in the poll but I think he'd be an expensive back up option. I'd like to see someone like Berahino to come in and compete with Wilson for the chances that'll come up in playing a fair few games up front. Hernandez isn't really up to it I don't think.

i actually went for Cavani. I think he was outstanding before he went to PSG where hes been shunted wide. I think he has something to prove and brings that Tevez type harrying, plus strength, arial threat and a reasonable finisher. Its a gamble but 1 i think may pay off.

We are not desparate for a new striker if we bring Hernandez back. Rooney, Hernandez and Wilson should see us through barring a major injury to Rooney of course.

If we decide to spend big money my preferred order is Kane > Benteke > Lacazette, assuming that their respecitve transfer fees are around 40m, 32m and 25m, respectively.

I cannot imagine for a second that we won't be adding a forward to the squad, especially with Champs league football.

My first option would be Kane if we can get him for good money. Nothing more than good £30m. But as we all know Levy he would demand something stupid and we won't pay that.
Second option is Lacazette based on few opinions i read and heard. But i must admit i didn't saw he much.

But i wouldn't be disapointed to much if we just bring back Chicharito and give him a chance. You just can't buy just so you buy as LVG often say. If there is noone better than what we already have then stick with what we have.

I dunno why people are so quick to write Chicharito off. He did well given his limited game time at Real and with the improved service he'll bet for our all new and improved midfield (where are you Barry Scott?) he'll get goals. Granted, he's a oacher not a grafter but we can afford a luxury like that now.

Basically, as a striker in a perfect team? And hasn't he only broken 20 league goals once in his career? I think he has too many midfield tendencies personally. I think his all round game is geared to being the second-top scorer for a big club, as opposed to the man responsible to get the lion's share.

Berahino is not a bad option as a backup striker

I am a fan of his. He's only 20-odd right? He's strong, fast, skillful, and scores goals. He also has a self-confidence that I like in strikers. If we are looking solely for a striker who will be condemned to 'back-up' before a ball is even kicked, then he'd be my choice. If, judging by some of the names we have been linked to, we are looking for a striker to lead us, then I'd probably look at the next shelf up.

I think he can be very good though, as good a player as Kane perhaps.

Lol I didn't finish that sentence

With a strong set of wingers and midfielders behind him I fully expect him to score 20+ this season

I think we'll go for Kane but I'd pick Lacazette. Fast and powerful with the potential to improve.

Don't suppose Morata is available? He'd be just about ideal of those not reckoned to be in the very top-tier.

Haven't seen Lacazette, I'd probably be happy with Higuain coming in as a back-up for Rooney.

Lacazette is probably the best option,
He's quick, strong, won't cost us a fortune.
But Liverpool want him, so as a precaution,
We should put a bid in for Lambert.

Except that he most likely will. Lyon apparantly have the French Levy who does their deals, I doubt we'll get him for less than 40m Euro. From what I've read Lacazette isn't really the type of striker van Gaal is looking for either. I just get the feeling with Benteke/Lacazette that if we were interested we would've signed them by now, we might be after something bigger.

Agreed.

If LVG wants him and the lad is happy to be a second option, then I don't see why we shouldn't give it a go.

* LVG's seemingly dismissive comments about him last season have been over-interpreted, IMO. He was pushed by some journo who basically tried to wind him up after Hernandez had scored for Real. I don't think LVG has anything against Hernandez as such.

* Hernandez will get plenty of minutes, even if he'll be a bench man per default.

* In a system where he gets regular service, he will score - plenty. His goals per minute ratio is outstanding.

* We can always go out and buy someone, but what's the actual point if "someone" isn't anything but a backup option anyway? Next season we have to start thinking seriously about replacing Rooney, but let's cross that bridge when the time comes. If Kane is the real deal, we can break the bank for him next summer.

Why are there no world class strikers in the poll above? We're Man United - one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Berahino is a striker that might just be ready to have a Harry Kane level season......wouldn't mind him at all as all strikers on that list are not available apart from one or two that we wouldn't want

We have just put together a great looking midfield in Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Herrera.Buying a top striker who has to play would ruin that.

I think we should give Rooney a chance to show he still has it up front and use Chicharito and Wilson as back up.We can also see how Kane does next season and if his form continues it might be worth paying the £50M Levy will demand. He can then gradually replace Rooney.

I guess in that case then Muller it is.
Even though he might cost us quite a few quid.
These are getting worse.

1) Lacazette
2) Cavani
3) Keep The Pea

Having said that, if LVG really wanted Lacazette we would have him by now....I think he might have something a bit more ambitious planned.

Throw the kitty at Atleti for Griezmann. They've just brought in Vietto and Jackson Martinez and may be open to selling at the right price. But he's probably not what Van Gaal is looking for as a striker.

Peter Crouch?
