Unless we are buying a striker better than what we have got, adding the fact rooney is captain, we look at the talent in midfield, I see no point buying a striker. This is the problem with a 433, we basically have to keep a continuity with playing the striker. I think we have goals in midfield that can makeup for our thin striker shortage, if our team gels.

I disagree. We need someone who is willing to accept the bench but good enough to take Rooney's role when needed. Someone who adds something different to Rooney like for example pace. Rooney is still a great striker but he's in decline so you want someone who will improve year after year to counter that That's something a young proven striker can do.

No point signing another young talent like Berahino when we are breaking the bank for Harry Kane next summer, we already have Wilson and with the type of midfielders we have in LVG's system, i can see us getting a lot of goals from the midfield, very hard to predict how Rooney's season will go but a decent back up might motivate him to get 20-25 goals for us, i mean he scored 14 goals in a terrible season where he was mostly played out of position.

A player who won't command a place in the first 11 and can also make an impact from the bench would be ideal.... in a non strikers market.

If we can get Mata back to his Chelsea form then we might not need a striker - especially if we kept Hernandez. If we sold Hernandez? I don't think it's worth taking any chances. If we can do a deal, get it done.

If you're wanting to be realistic and accurate (which your post seems to be aiming at) in discussing options, then you should also take it as given that Spurs won't be selling Kane. My advice would thus be to exclude him from your whittled-down short-list.
Lol who you trying to kid?

It's abundantly obvious that Kane won't be sold this summer. Indeed, what I see are some MUFC fans (not so many to be fair) trying to kid themselves otherwise ... but they'd be far better off focusing on targets that are actually realistic and not beyond the club's reach.

What spurs player (besides Kane) has been outside United's reach? :)

More likely nobody is willing to pay £40m for a one season wonder.

Did we bid for Modric? I know there was a lot of talk. As for Bale? He loves Ronaldo and 'always been a Madrid fan'. Can't account for players with no taste.

Not so much "out of our reach" as "also within Madrid's" there :D doubt even Madrid are bonkers enough to play for Kane at that price.

No Spurs player is beyond United if they really want to force it

One striker having 20-25 goals for a season, aint gonna win us shit Del & we cant rely on our midfield to chip in either. You're talkin about 80-100 goals to win the league man.

We need a recognised / ready to go, Striker; one that can compete with Rooney & play alongside him when needed - not play second fiddle to him.

It's football suicide to have only one recognised Striker in Rooney. Hernandez is not wanted by the club, so i can see him being forced out soon (regardless of the shoulder) - he's not at our level anyway or Real's either. He was loaned out for a reason.

Wilson is still learning his trade, so we shouldnt be puttin alot of pressure on him, but he needs games too though.

Worked for Chelsea and Juve, besides in a 4-3-3 formation that includes Adm and Depay we just need a decent back up for Rooney who is capable of stepping in for him if or when he can't deliver.

It is going to be very interesting to hear what Van Gaal says if prompted about the striker situation again on tour.

Point taken Del. It's all about options though & us being able to play many formations, or to put 2 proven Strikers on if we're struggling to get back in the game, or to win it.

We definitely need a Striker & one that's an equal of Rooney or better; because who's to say Rooney's gonna stay fit all season?!

It's just madness not to sign another top Striker & i cant fathom how some are thinkin on here regarding that..

The more I watch youtube clips (I know) of Lacazette I reckon he would be a huge hit here. Has great pace and body strength plus knows how to finish. Seems to play all over the shop too which would be great in a front three. Surely we could get this guy for less than Benteke release clause which is roughly 46m euros.

I agree, with need a world class striker or a player close to world class, but this summer isn't exactly the ideal time to sign that striker, Harry Kane seems to already be a United player - I reckon we are waiting for him to get another season under his belt before we sign him for a hefty fee.

I reckon Berahino would be a shout as rooneys deputy, add some competition upfront, depth as well as i reckon he would be ok as second choice, wheras any other big name striker will need to play every game they are able. i also think he would go for sub 20m.

I think the likes of Berahino and Icardi are a bit too close in age to Wilson, we'd be better off with a striker closer to the mid 20's mark, spreading out the ages of our 3 strikers.

There just doesnt seem to be a massive girth of Strikers around that may be available Del, or those that would bring us up a level. Its a weird one that it's all dried up in that area.

I had such high hopes for Will Keane being a top-class Striker for us, but his injury seems to have really studded his progress & looks to be on a downward spiral. I hope i'm wrong though, because he was the future not so long ago & a United man through & through also.

Most of us struggled to pick a muppet signing right-back too. Every other area we all had many desired players - but not these two areas of Striker & RB.

Darmian was my muppet-dream RB signing, so i'm really delighted that we got him, but the top-class list was very short to say the least. Would have loved to have Alves here also though; so we're well stocked at RB for the years ahead & not havin to play players out of position again.

We... we are?

That's what it takes Ad. Look at the league tables over the years for evidence of that.

Considering there's 38 games per season in the league - nevermind the other comps we'll be involved in; we're gonna need to be scoring over 100 goals to be anywhere near successful & Rooney is not the answer - they whole squad need to chip in also, which means havin players specialised in the scoring goals & assisting..

This, there is no point in breaking the bank for striker we are not going to play much when we could sign a cheap backup and look to invest heavily next term. Besides whoever is going to play as the AM will have a huge responsibility of scoring, meaning that we can expect 10-15 from either Herrera or Mata, Memphis will cheap in with a significant amount too and ADM will maybe double his last season tally. All we need is for Rooney to hit the 20-25 goal mark, something he has managed everytime he has been made the focal point of the team.

Has Walcott signed his new contract yet or does he still only have a year left? He could cover the striker and right wing positions and adds something a little different with his pace.

Lacazette & Benteke fit that age group at 24 years of age man..

Still not convinced about Benteke though - definitely not for the money Villa want either. I'd take a punt on Lacazette tbh!

Yep, I mean ideally I was thinking of Lewandowski. :D, but yeah, Lacazette would be a good choice IMO, I don't think Benteke has really pushed on enough and his limitations are such that I can't see him replacing Rooney which should be the goal of the mid 20's striker.

Ah that makes sense.

:lol::lol:

Aye, we've managed to sign Van Persie, Mata, Di Maria and Schewinstiger in the last 3 years, but when it comes to Harry fecking Kane, we wouldn't have a hope!

You're such a deluded idiot.
