Breaking bad and when taken in the entirety of both shows its not even close. I am on my second viewing and there are so many more details to discover. Some questions still remain unanswered for me though :
Who was Fring in Chile
How did Walt manage to end up a high school teacher

This is funny because they're both top 3 of my all time shows, but I encountered similar problems with both, in that it took me trying and giving up multiple times before eventually persevering long enough to get hooked. It took a bit longer with Breaking Bad, somewhere in season 2, whereas with GoT I think it was around 8th or 9th ep in season 1.

1. GoT
2. The Wire
3. Breaking Bad.

GoT was good for a few seasons, then got kinda crap, then became utterly laughably shite.

BB had a couple of weaker episodes and some unnecessary plot lines but overall was excellent throughout and finished strong.

It’s not even close which is better.

As a piece of story telling BB most definitely ranks higher, but early seasons GoT is most likely my favourite ever TV show, and given the fact I've wiped the 2 final seasons from my memory I'd have to go with that. Only other show that comes close to them both for me is the wire, which I only watched recently and absolutely binged the lot and loved it completely once it got me hooked part way through season 1.

Im surprised at how many people say GoT was only good for a few seasons. I dont know if that is the ending souring stuff, or people really feel that way, or they were book readers who feel that way? I really think GoT was great for 5 to maybe 6 seasons of its run.

How anyone can vote GoT after the final two seasons and that trainwreck of an ending I'll never know. Sure, the first season is arguably the best television ever made and it was good for a while after too, but the second half of its run is garbage, and when it all ends in the dumpster fire to end all dumpster fires it ruins the whole thing. Meanwhile, Breaking Bad stayed excellent throughout. In fact, the best episode in the entire show is the third to last one, and the two after that are both brilliant too.

GoT isn't even in my top 10 shows of all time. Breaking Bad is definitely top 3.

Game of Thrones for me. Despite the absolute genius of S8. Before all that was epicness to the highest caliber of tv. It was Peak tv. I can name so many moments of just brilliance it's ridiculous. Nothing comes close to that scale. Even the worse seasons had memorable moments and brilliant acting. Its an obvious decision for me. But Breaking Bad is a more Perfect tv show of the 2 imo. Slow starting off but when it gets going it's incredible. Plus it stuck the landing on a good ending, so few shows have ever done.

Just on my second watch of Breaking Bad. Oh my god Skylar has such a hateful slapped arse face and character. I really dislike her. I’d nearly fast forward any scenes with just her in them this time around.
Been a while, but I think I had the exact opposite reaction. Felt much more sympathetic towards Skylar on my second watch.

I’m sure most will agree that GOT would have been at 80% if they hadn’t given us that absolute train wreck of an ending.

They could have still fixed GOT by rewriting even the last 3 or 4 episodes. It was sheer class until the end.

Having just finally finished Breaking Bad I would rate it higher overall because it built all the way through and had a satisfying finish.

How is this even a serious question? Game of Thrones was laughably bad in the last couple of seasons, and that ending

Breaking Bad is GOAT.

Game of Thrones became a parody. Breaking Bad is a masterpiece, only behind the Wire and Sopranos.

The decline started after season 4. Some good episodes but not even close to the level of Breaking Bad.

Game of Thrones… i thinking the ending made sense and was inline with Danaery’s character but extremely rushed. To me it was always obvious that Danaery’s was going to “break bad”, even Bran ending up on the throne I once said to my ex it might be Bran as he’s already on his own little throne, granted was mostly joking. But yeah too rushed.

Overall from series 1 to 5 I think GoT was equal to Breaking Bad, but after that the writing became very poor baring the season 6 finale which for the first 20 minutes was a masterpiece of TV.

Breaking Bad remained consistent throughout all its seasons and like GoT the ending was foreshadowed from the beginning eg in season 1 Hank mentioned a gang of Nazis operating in the desert as suspects for the high grade meth, and also Jesse’s off hand comment about Walter building a robot to save them etc.

Game of Thrones was more epic in terms of production, rich universe, number of characters, story lines etc. If not for that half-assed ending, I would probably go with GoT. So I think Breaking Bad wins by a tight margin.

Nothing comes close to The Sopranos though, which is the GOAT in its own league.

The wire is better than Sopranos

The last season of GOT really damaged it in my view. It went from being a top 3 show of all time to 'just another long spanning show' by the end.

Everything about the final season was bad, from the choices made in story direction, to the way and speed in which it was told. It betrayed established characters for what seemed like nothing more than shock value.

Breaking bad on the other hand went from strength to strength, with complex characters who were all compelling. Skylar is a great example, technically a victim for much of the show but still a b*tch to the point you found yourself rooting for Walt in their exchanges. Damn I need to watch it through again.

Some good episodes after s4 is an understatement

Season 5 was the last decent season of game of thrones. Season 6 was alright. Season 7 was fecking painful and season 8 was a complete car crash.

Sopranos > BB > GOT

Haven't seen the Wire or finished Twin Peaks yet mind you.

Breaking Bad. You just can't ignore the fact that GOT served up two stinking final seasons.

Had you asked me after season 4 of GoT, then I'd rank it higher than BB.

Had you asked me after season 6 of GoT, then I'd say it was equal to BB.

But since you ask me after seeing the last 2 seasons: BB is easily better.

GoT was doomed from the moment they ran out of (and diverged from) book material. They clearly didn't have the writing skills to match up with it. Season five onwards they basically just used their massive budget to create incredible individual episodes and sequences but the plot and story slowly declined, by season seven it had just gone full blockbuster and the plot took a total back seat and seemed to be there purely for the battles. It almost turned into a completely different (and shite) show. Lowering the number of episodes for the last two seasons was also daft when there was still so much left to cover.

Breaking Bad just got better as it went along and nailed the landing.

Neither are top three for me anyway.

Dont think it is. Some good scenes would be more accurate imo.
The storytelling/dialogues were dreadful after season 4.

I wont change your mind, obviously, but to me post s4 had great episodes.
Hardhome is one of the best episodes of the whole show imo
I thought Mothers Mercy was great
(Though s5 was ruined by Sandsnakes and Dorne stuff and agree about the dialogue with them)

s6:
The Door, Battle of Bastards, Winds of Winter were all great episodes.(The Sparrow and cult stuff was a bit eh)
s7:
Spoils of War and Dragon and the wolf.
(The plot for capturing the wight was ludicrous and little fingers demise was fun, but kinda stupid too)
s8: A knight of the seven kingdoms was great. The rest... ehh, it got worse in terms of plot and yeah dialogue was just a parody in this season.

As I said, there were still great episodes imo (and to the point, some really great scenes in some of the worst episodes)

I'm surprised BB gets so much love given that I hated pretty much every character in the show. Story was very good, but feck me those characters. I was hoping every episode that Skylar would die because she was that annoying.

Pretty much sums it up for me too.

The dialogue, pacing, focus dropped off a cliff after season 4.

It gets so much love, because everybody is somewhat flawed in the real world. There were no idealistic characters like in other shows. I can't say anything against Walt Jr though, can't see why people would hate him.

Somewhat flawed and Breaking Bads cast of characters is a bit of an understatement. I liked Hank

Walt Jr was an irritating whiny self obsessed little bitch of a character. Walt Sr: I have a serious gambling addiction Walt Jr: Cool, you can buy me a car. Hated him. Really wanted gus to end him somehow.

Well Hank is a perfect example of somewhat flawed. He is law enforcement man but at the same time smokes banned Cuban cigars and regularly cuts corners at work.
