I wonder why the stories are coming out now, if it's due to the talks going well or City getting Pep being a factor.

They've both got as much evidence behind them as this being Maureen's dream job. For some reason that one has suddenly become borderline gospel.
I haven't heard the Mourinho rejected United story before. I find it hard to believe he would reject the oppurtunity to manage the England's biggest and richest club, the champions and to succeed Ferguson and have complete control just so he could go back to a club where he's been sacked before and had to deal with boardroom meddling like with Shevchenko.

Things are so bad I'd more or less accept Mourinho at United now, and that's saying something. We'd also be accepting a Mourinho who appears to have burnt himself out. Sad times.

We don't know that for sure. He was at charge of Chelsea twice and never looked like he could settle there for a longer time.

Hopefully these next few months give him time to recharge. I've always believed that he wanted this job, for whatever reason. If I'm right then we may see a reinvigorated Jose, hopefully the same guy that turned up on these shores for his first stint at Chelsea. I think that Real Madrid job took a lot out of him due to all the politics and back-stabbing from his players. He looked a shell of his former self when he rolled up for his second spell at Chelsea.

On the plus side I think it IS his dream job - he's inplied that for quite a while - and it would offer him a chance to rehabilitate his reputation back to the very best, to our benefit. That's what makes it inevitable, imo.

We will see how Mourinho does, is he past his best by the time we get him? who knows, was the chelsea disaster something that could happen here? we do not know, is it worth rolling the dice? yea I think it is. Mourinho is still younger than VG, he is 53 to VG's 64 which you think VG would have something left in the tank. If Mourinho comes, we get 5 very good years out of him it will be seen has a very good success. I still do not think we have seen Mourinho at a club where the board are not hostile and extreme, we look at Madrid, chelsea, inter, its at boardroom which is always trouble afoot. We will see how he does at a different animal like united, once Mourinho is on the ball he does make signings in positions that are common sense, like we saw during the summer of 2014. Despite Mourinho winning the title at chelsea, it still was a mistake going back to a club twice, this job could reignite the fire within Mourinho, and we need that personality which could either work or backfire

This he doesn't play good football nonsense again.

Do people actually watch his teams play? They outscored Peps super Barca team. They didn't do that by winning 1-0 every game.
Its a league with 2 teams that win the title year after year after year. There are teams in LaLiga that would struggle in the Championship. Mourinho's teams are all about control, the spinning of this via goals scored in a 2 team league is laughable. I find his teams football dull, its always been that way, his whole game is based on the 4 moments of the game principles which is simply all about control. I might be the only one but I never liked the football his teams play, its close to robotic. He takes players with flare and reduces them to players doing a job in an overly structured system. Not for me. There are plenty of other alternatives and the whole idea that there is only Mourinho capable of doing the job is another equally laughable idea being pushed.

They had Ronaldo in his prime. The fact is, although I think he is capable of attacking Football, his Football is very conservative at times and sometimes just plain defensive. He has set up in away games before with no strikers and clearly aiming for a draw. Can be no worse Football than we have seen under VG though and if it is winning Football I doubt anyone will care.

Fergie 08-13.

I hate Chelsea and rather enjoyed hating him while he was there. His trophy winning year last season was mired in unwatchable football and his horrible start this season was a real eye opener. I know we want a "name". Keep LVG till his contact runs out... send Giggs somewhere else for a decade... and then find someone next winter to be ready to take over in May.

Good points. My worry is that our board and club still act with a lot of dignity. They've stood by Van Gaal, for example, when other clubs would have pressed the trigger a long time ago.

For me, Mourinho really lost it earlier this season at Chelsea. The referee paranoia, constantly, became embarrassing and he seemed to lose a lot of respect over the Eva Carneiro situation. How would our board handle him in situations like that? It's a big worry, I bet.

The problem is? who is available? give the keys to giggs? continue with VG? who is another extreme. Guardiola vs giggs, Guardiola vs VG, or Guardiola vs Mourinho which gives us the personality to fight our rivals. Pep does not have the great barcelona, or bayern when he takes over at city, and I would rather we go into next season with a personality like Mourinho, who while can be defensive, he is not afraid to evolve and win at all costs, we have missed that. When he had the right set up at chelsea 2004-06, chelsea 2013/15, inter 2009/10, damn he succeeded. I do think the players he had at chelsea were never the right kind to continue under mourinho, costa, cesc, these guys are petrol to Mourinho's fire, I actually think the players we have do suit Mourinho, and it is worth a try because what is beyond Mourinho is a never ending desert it is grim.

One thing is for certain: there is no stopping him; Mourinho will soon be here. And I for one welcome our new dickhead overlord. I’d like to remind him that as a trusted caf member, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in his underground sugar caves.

I'm wary of Mourinho coming here. Don't think we have much choice right now though.

My feeling is that United has always been his dream job. I am pretty sure if he gets the position, it will revitalise him. He'd work his nuts off to get us back to the top.

My problem is I'd prefer that someone else is charge of our infrastructure and vision for how we move forward as a club. I believe it could be detrimental for us if Jose is handed complete power because no matter how hard he'll try, there are some anomalies about his personality which I believe he can't control, but which are quite destructive.

What I don't want is us to start over again if it doesn't work out with Mourinho. That's why I'd prefer someone else with control over certain aspects of the club. I'd be all for this 100% if he would just be the first team coach, too much power to him and by proxy Mendes, fills me with horror.

Edit - I'd also keep LVG on if he were willing, to continue his behind the scenes work until we can find a permanent replacement. He might drive us crazy with the first team, but I believe in his integrity to do right by the club, and his organisational abilities coupled with his extensive knowledge would do the club a world of good imo.

I think that while going back to Chelsea looked like a good idea because he loved it there in the past, it just didn't have the same challenge he needed. It was pretty much the same thing he did before and it really didn't do it for him. I guess they know something when they say you should never go back.

Can't wait for 'Mourinho are you listening" being reworked.

Mourinho they are listening,
They're gonna keep our trophy glistenin'!,
We'll be back in May,
To take it away,
Walking in a José wonderland!

There are a number of really good managers out there. The availabilty thing is a misdirection. Fergie wasnt available when we got him, he was employed by Aberdeen, we went and got him. Same deal with the other top coaches out there who are currently employed. There are more coaches out there than pep or jose who can do a great job for us. Some really limited and blinkered thinking with respect to who could coach us next.

I do not think there is a great deal out there, unless we decide to gamble again, do not think this club will take chances

If this happens.. *IF* Mourinho will be the first manager to have proper run-in time to taking the job. Hopefully he will already be looking at the team and potential purchases and will hit the ground running.

He'll also avoid the disastrous experiment he tried last summer with Chelsea's preparation.

This would be some real spicy affair. I hope that Mou takes this job not to take revenge (read as: proving it to the world), rather trying to enjoy the game and win the fans. Once he starts getting bitter, the whole team follows suit, and then there is less football and more drama.

Why you upset?

If Mata was actually performing I would be upset like Chelsea fans were. As he was the best player for Chelsea. He's not come close to that form for us.
Chelsea will probably buy him back in the summer for around £8m.

Manchester United fans are deluded, when MU will win the league this season everything will be forgotten. I've criticised LVG before but I now believe that he is the way to go.

He already wrote the dossier remember.

Thats one of the beauty of getting him I guess. He can work on picking his targets jice and early and watch us and see where the gaps are.

Its already forgotten but Hazard was playing fantastic football last season. Also, Ozil was a regular for Mourinho too.

The answer to the question Would I want Jose will always be no. If he is the only viable option will I accept him then now the answer is a reluctant yes.

its deluded to think we are going to win the league this season

If we did somehow manage to win the league this season, then it is a joke and will only be because we have been the best of what obviously turned out to be a very bad bunch. It'd change nothing for me, because I'm not willing to bet that all the other teams don't improve for next year.

In reality, I fully expect that most, if not all, of the teams currently above us will accrue more points than us from here until the end of the season. I'm not confident that we'll make the top 4 at all.

Reading a chelsea forum, they seem a little concerned by the idea and what he could do with proper backing.
I'm starting to really hope this happens.
but it's the hope that kills you.

A. He doesn't play good football.

B. He doesn't give youth a chance.

C. He'll likely embarrass himself and the club at some point with his paranoid conspiracy theories, especially when coming up against Pep at City , who he hates.

D. We'll be competitive for a year or two but he will leave behind a mess and self implode at some point.

Its like fecking a whore. You may enjoy it while you are having sex, but more than likely youll regret it later on.

Unfortunately though I dont think we have left ourselves with too many options. Beggers can't be choosy. If a 35 year old virgin had a chance to shag a whore, hed probably take it.
I honestly struggle to understand this point. To me, it's only really applicable to Chelsea this season. And this supposed mess he's left them in, I'm sure they will recover next season.

This story goes round and around. It's pretty tedious. I can't stand LVG but it would stupid to make a change at this time. Summer is a different issue, big hopes reserved for then.

Why would it be stupid?

We'd more likely qualify for champions league by making a change.

LvG has just started playing him in his best position. He was great last match and will only get better through being played there imo.
