Gaming Pokémon Strumfest

I've decided I'm going to take my break point cards off ebay and try complete the collection. There are a few of the full art cards up fo auction with low starts and weird end times so I'm going to try snipe my way to a full set for under £100 investment. Reckon could get £150 for the full set.

Break Through booster box delivered tomorrow!

Already had an offer of £350 on my signed and framed 1999 CL final shirt so there's a few months worth of collecting sorted!

More info on shirt needed.

Bought it drunk at a Charity do at Aintree Racecourse at Christmas haha. Signed by Ole and Teddy :)

Looks like I have almost 2 or 3 duplicate sets of the Breakpoint expansion including the EX holos. Got some of the Rare holos a few times over. Happy to post them out to people if they want a crack at collecting and maybe getting their first set done.

BreakThrough booster box being delivered tomorrow. Definitely going to open all 36 packs!

Could be interested! I'll have a look tomorrow and see what I'm needing!

I also have the legendary treasures set I wanna finish but they are thin on the ground these days.

If you know by card number what your missing or whatever let me know, just see what you've got.

I want a crack at the FlashFire set for those Mega X and Y Charizards!

Edit: Just dropped this guy a message who did me these two booster boxes. Ive asked him what else he can get hold of in the same price region. (£57 had to pay for BreakThrough in the end)

Going through all mine now, I have so many bits of different sets its so pointless

I have a couple of flash fire packs I think, nothing rare but if you ever look to complete the whole set might be useful if there's some stubborn ones.

feck off with this shit lads. I'm not gonna get drawn into the cards again, no.... no i won't you can't make me.

Might pick up the new Ruby or Sapphire game though since i didn't buy it when it came out... hmm.

Forgot I had these two hidden away too, love the Az full art trainer.

Niceee. This makes me want to just build a collection rather than try and profit from it all. I think If I buy booster boxes at £57 then there is a way to build a collection and make a bit back from duplicate sales etc - Have you just picked up boosters and bits from different sets?

Do it!

Dammit @Ady87 you're making me want to buy more recent boxes if they're purchasable at under £60  It's just a bad time for me at the moment as I don't start my second job until mid-July and am stuck with part-time hours until then. Plus, having to put money away for my trip to San Fran in August.. Suppose I could sell a few things though. But I should really just save up and hope that the other boxes I've seen don't disappear (found a website with a sub £400 Jungle Box that I'm hoping to snake in on).

In other news, I've started doing more random breeding on Alpha Sapphire now, for perfect IVs. Recently, I made a full Pokédex on Pokémon Bank from #001-#720. I had completed the 'Dex years ago on Y, but I've now done it so that every Pokémon has the Blue Pentagon Symbol to show it was obtained in X/Y/OR/AS, as some were transferred from previous games.

Now, I've started from Caterpie and over time I think I'll breed a competitive version of each Pokémon (only the first of the evolution line though, not one of every single thing) even if it's shite! I already had Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle done as I've used them on teams before.

Interesting looking at posts in this thread 2 years ago and the values of sealed boxes then. They really are on the rise and worth investing in as you have said.

Sub £60 though, you can't complain!

Also, maybe worth keeping an eye on if it stays low and below RRP.

Generations is definitely going to be a decent set to complete, by the way. From what I've seen on YouTube openings, even the EX Cards are like a one in two or three packet pull. You can't just buy single boosters or a box, you can only get them in the select collections released this year then they'll likely be instantly out of print by February next year. In a few years I can see a big return on this set, it's a very niche one. If I wasn't trying to save for other things and the Wizards of the Coast sets, I'd probably be buying double what I do of the Generations set and opening over a box worth (36+ packs) to see how much of the set I can complete. It isn't a big set, either.

I love some of the cards from the set! Plenty of full arts and EX cards and yeah Pull Rates look good That said, it will only devalue said cards, as can be seen on eBay already. Some of the better cards and full arts going quite cheap compared to booster costs. It actually makes sense to just buy the good cards outright which cant be said for other sets! I'm going to see where I am after Break Through then jump both feet in to Generations.

That's true for a lot of the cards at the moment, but certain ones do demand quite the hefty price tag. Eg. on Chaos Cards, the Mega Charizard EX is £28 (out of stock), though I know someone who's selling two of them for £17 each (postage included in cost). The rest of the rarer cards are indeed all worth under £15 though, except the Jolteon EX in this set which is worth more than £20 as it's maybe the only card in the set that people want for their competitive decks.

The thing is though, with this set being less accessible than the others, in the future that will definitely mean they're more sought after. Much like that Skyridge Booster Box I posted above, it was a very limited print run as Wizard of the Coast's contract expired during printing of that set, meaning very few boxes were released when compared with other sets. This will be similar in that the print run is probably a year shorter than every other set, along with no booster box to collect the cards more cost effectively (and it being a 20th Anniversary edition).

Some of the EX Cards from the set (Not the promos) going for £4.00 or Best Offer Buy It Nows which is really very reasonable for sets where people cant get them in bulk easily. Even some of the Full Art cards like the Pikachu and Flareon are going for under £5.00 too.

I do agree though that should they never release a booster box, these will be very sought after!

Yeah, this is one of the few sets to have a sub-set (Radiant Collection) within it. Don't quote me on this, but I think you always pull two Radiant Collection Cards in a booster, and with this being a 32-card mini-set, the odds are you'll get one of the better cards quite often. Even some of the Uncommon RC Cards are holographic and look like Rares, such as the Charizard, Yveltal, and Diancie.

I'm friends with the Organised Play Manager at The Pokémon Company International and she informed me there's definitely no plan to release a booster box for the set, so I think getting one of each of the collections released this year is the best starting point. You'll get all 16 Promo Card versions, 11 Pin Badges, four Jumbo Cards, 65~ Generations / 20th Anniversary Card Sleeves, an Elite Trainer Storage Box, 45 Generations Design Energy Cards, some other tidbits, and of course, 48 Booster Packs for an investment over the year of about £260~. Though, I'd probably go for a second Elite Trainer Box if I were trying to fill the set, so you'd have enough of the Generations specific sleeves to store the cards in and top loader them.

Due to the set being 115~ total cards, you'd probably only have a handful of gaps to fill! Also, opening the packs will feel less disappointing than a lot of other sets, since you know you'll get a lot of pretty cards

That Jolteon EX is probably worth keeping an eye on though!

Appreciate the insight mate. The Elite Trainer box looks like a no brainer. Where do you pre-order from? I've purposely avoided looking at the full set because I think it takes away from that booster pack feeling when you already know what you can pull and what they look like. I just know there are a few really nice cards in the set so I'm not sure I could keep it sealed!

If this guy will do me an Ancient Origins Box at £57 I might keep that sealed as its a slightly older set and they seem to be growing slightly in value, though not as popular as some of the other sets.

Desperate to know where these 2 guys are pulling these boxes from and making money on them at £57.00 + Free Recorded Postage??

I pre-ordered from Chaos Cards, as I've bought a fair bit of stuff there (even my Comic Book storage supplies), and qualify for a 3% off all purchases. I don't know if there's any other very trustworthy UK-based store that will sell the Elite Trainer Box much cheaper (£45 at the moment). However, this website and another similar one named Magic Madhouse, use the same website build and payment system which requires pre-orders to be paid for in advance (as soon as you pre-order it).

Yeah, most other sells seem to be charging more like £80+ for sets such as Ancient Origins and even more for Roaring Skies.. I haven't looked up when they were released but I'm sure they weren't too far away from each other. I only picked up some Roaring Skies from a Tin in January myself..

I would have to assume that the person selling those boxes at such a low cost (£57 is the cheapest I've seen a box of anything go for) is for one of the following reasons:

A) They fell off the back of a lorry...
B) They don't know how much they usually go for and did no research (and they fell off the back of a lorry)...
C) They managed to get a few cases of six booster boxes for a very low cost (£300~ or they fell off the back of a lorry)...

I'm very tempted to capitalize on one of these myself.. I get paid on Friday, so I may have to not go out on Friday night and buy one instead.

Oh, one other thing. You can apply to be Staff at tournaments instead of playing. I've had friends do this recently, they get their travel and accommodation paid for, along with food money for the weekend and two boxes of the most recent set as payment. Slim chance that this could be how they got the boxes for basically nowt.

I read this thread for 5 minutes and spent £80 on pokemom cards... something I havent purchased for about 10 or so years.

I'm wondering if they are involved in the supply chain somewhere and are getting them at cost price along with some staff related discount (that probably doesn't apply to this product but is being used anyway). It's the only reason I've seen things like this obtained for below RRP. They are kind of like Apple Products in that the new price is the new price regardless of location normally with very little deviation.

Yeah I've just picked up boosters and shit along the way. I had a good crack at Legendary Treasures and I thought I was close to completion but I'm about 30 cards off and lots of those are rare. It's annoying because I have so many duplicates of some rares too.

I need 3 cards for the radiant collection part which is my first port of call, but the set also has two secret cards, 114/113 and 115/113 that are all gold Reshiram and Zekrom that go for a fair bit.

It's annoying because it seems there's nowhere left to get boosters anymore for this set.

I don't quite follow what the cards are for. Are they part of a game?

Yeah, same as most other CCG's / TCG's - Collectable / Trading Card Game.

Their purposes are mostly for playing a game where you battle against other people with a 60-Card Deck with specific rulings. However, plenty of people just collect them and keep them in pristine condition as a hobby (and probably to sell on in the future when they're worth a lot more).

There are tournaments all over the world every year for the Trading Cards, Video Game, and most recently Pokkén Tournament fighting game. It all culminates in a World Championships in August, usually in North America, where the best players qualify and get to compete against each other.
