Gaming Pokémon Strumfest

It frustrating to watch. I don't think I can fathom how frustrating it must be to actually try and play it.

Now trying to use TMs in the middle of a fight.

They've just challenged Whitney with only Totodile left. Needless to say, they were anally destroyed by Miltank's Rollout.

Not sure if anyone is interested but...

http://nuggetbridge.com/news/nintendo-uk-announces-battle-tournament-2014-vgc-national-details/

Nintendo UK are doing another tournament series. You have to enter online for one of the locations, and you get randomly selected for one of the 32 places. There is Ultimate Expert for those 13 and over, Junior Expert for 12 and under, Apprentice for anyone new to the game/battling, and Team which is for two family members (one over 16, one 12 or under). You can only choose one category and get to select two locations to try and get in. The winners from each event get to attend the finals in London on April 26th.

Prizes differ for each category, with a trip to Japan for the winner in Expert, an Alton Towers Family holiday for the Junior winner, £250 Nintendo Vouchers & a trip to EGX Rezzed Gaming Expo in London for the team winners, and £300 worth of Nintendo 3DS games released this year for the Apprentice winner.

I'm surprised so many people have trouble with Whitney.
For most people, it's the breaking of innocence - up to this point (including RBY), no gym leader has really been a challenge, except perhaps Misty if you picked Charmander, or Sabrina in Yellow. Whitney still takes it up a notch compared with these, and she is the first gym leader where:

- You cannot always death-fodder your HM slave because Rollout will have quadrupled in power when you send your better Pokémon back in
- It has recovery, and unlike Sabrina's Alakazam, it is bulky
- You have access to one Fighting Pokémon - the traded Machop - whom Miltank can still beat if Rollout is powerful enough, or flinch to death (the same goes with Geodude - and it doesn't damage Miltank quick enough for it to recover). This Machop also has rubbish DVs, and Fighting types are useless for the rest of the game
- Potions aren't enough as Miltank is capable of damaging at a quicker rate
- You don't have enough money to stock up on Revives
- Miltank is surprisingly-quick - to put it in perspective, its speed is as quick as Salamence and Typhlosion at the same level, ignoring DVs. This means that without a lot of grinding, or without paralysis, Miltank will go first
- The wild Pokémon in the surrounding areas are grossly-underleveled to prepare yourself against Whitney (HG/SS raised their levels slightly). Also, there's plenty of Bug, Poison, Flying and Psychic types there, meaning leveling up that Machop can be an absolute pain

With preparation, Whitney is easy, but if you went in feeling cocky and unprepared after thrashing all the gym leaders in Kanto and Johto thus far, Whitney will likely wipe the floor with you. For a lot of people, Whitney is probably the first gym leader whom they blacked-out against.

Whitney isn't the hardest gym leader any more, but to many young adults out there, she is the first time you realise that you aren't a Pokémon master after all.

I was in this bucket too, for the first time - Whitney butchered my team, including my Croconaw, who was 6 levels above her Miltank.

Heh, I can see that now, I guess I went in too experienced/lucky. I never used a Machop either, don't like them.

Rollout is easy if you're expecting it, one or two Sand Attacks make it useless. I can't remember the 2nd gen clearly, but in the remakes it's pretty easy to get a nearby Nidoran and evolve it to it's final form, both strong against Rollout and with Double Kick for massive damage(also, later gens Poison Point). The trade Onix from the town with the first gym is a brilliant choice too, easy to level and tank defence.

I think we discussed it before, and there were a handful more of ways around here, but yeah, I guess you have to be expecting it.

What would you say is the hardest gym leader? I found Jasmine and her Steelix pretty hard, but of them all that fecking Miltank caused me so much stress.

I think they're trying to get Totodile to evolve now using democracy.

Edit: And it worked. Level 29 and they finally get a Croconaw.
