In fairness, that’s a lot of people’s criticism. He needs a team stuffed with quality to excel. He doesn’t carry a team with his performances if people around him aren’t playing at their best.

The talk of building a team around him has been taken literally by many posters on here. What we need is a quality upgrade in many positions. We could build a team around a CB or forward as long as we bring quality players in that befit the stature of the club. We have failed to do that for too long now. And that is the main problem IMO.I am not sure if you are arguing or agreeing with me.
We were linked with longstaff before all of this has come out with Pogba, so we’d have been signing him regardless. The official line atm is we’re not selling, so I don’t imagine we’ve been linked with anyone that would be replacing him yet.
Tbf I doubt even Messi could've carried us at times last season.
Yeah, it’s hard to tell how much is him and how much is the toilet we have. I think all parties would suit moving on, provided we are very adequately paid, so we can begin to fill our squad with more quality.
Many on here wanted Aaron Lennon to replace Ronaldo.
I'd argue that he just needs a functional team around him. A midfield that can actually help him control the team around and an attack that actually moves into space would be a good start. In the three years he's been here we haven't had either of those aspects. There aren't many (any?) midfielders around who would be able to perform the way we expect Pogba to perform in those conditions.
I sincerely hope we sign someone with huge potential. I hope we break the bank for both Aouar and Havertz if we're to lose Pogba.

I feel like he needs someone better from deep or someone better ahead of him. His negatives are he’s either not in the box as he’s picking up the ball and spraying from deep or giving it away carelessly trying something inventive. Then he sometimes gets caught in the middle of both those roles and fecks about with it in his own half. He’s not had either type of player, with the shortcomings of our attackers, matic turning slower than milk and Fred erratic in possession. He’s not disciplined enough to play a singular role in midfield, he needs free roam and we’re far to shit to allow that for him.
I’d love either. Although I think we’d be better off getting more for our money than breaking the bank.
Sorry, you cannot just take a snapshot of something, and state that it's better. This great 'Ericksen' for instance... and he has done what over the last three years, that Pogba has not? Because one of them has inspired both club and country to actually win something, and one of them clearly has not.
I also, again, make reference to the quality of players around some of those names... look at City's squad. Put Pogba in there ffs and see what type of player he is. He is a star at Juve. A star for France (who are an amazing team...) yet Pogba is not that good. Why does he actually get into the French team? They have a number of top midfielders to choose from...
It's nonsense. Your memory is short..Bernardo Silva was pretty average in his first season at City for example. Jamie Vardy was the best forward in the Prem two, three seasons ago.. does that make him better than Harry Kane? Ageuro? of course not.
Your point about penalties is odd. Scoring goals is the most difficult aspect of football, and to suggest 'anyone' can score pens takes away the context of the game etc. As I am sure you know.. why are pen shoot-outs so flaming difficult to predict if 'anyone with decent spot kick ability' can take them?

A lot of players when the Co92 were introduced. RVN, Stam, Beckham. A team is bigger than that, it's not about individuals. You need talent to play at the top level, but that's only the minimum. You need to have a good attitude, dedication and work ethic also. How many of those boxes does Pogba tick? Not only that, but he is constantly causing controversy, seeking limelight when he's playing poorly and, the cherry on the cake, doesn't even want to be here. Yet apparently some fans lack self respect and would bend over and take it all because Pogba has talent.

I totally agree. Pobga is a big name but since he has come he has impressed in less than a dozen games.

I don't understand all the drama in this thread. A player we all knew was going to leave has now openly expressed his desire to leave. What's the big deal? We also all know Real are a dirty club and will do anything they can to try and lower the fee and it has already begun with them now trying to make him force himself out. Ed, Judge or whoever the feck is responsible for deals made simply need to put their foot down and tell Real to either pay the £150m or piss off.
The thing is I don't mind him leaving. Too much circus around him. BUT I can't trust Woodward or Ole to identify the right players to replace him. Its clear as day that Woodward is incapable of building a squad. Most part of Pogba's transfer fee will be spent buying average players and that will set us back a few more years.

Bryan Robson CARRIED his team. Pogba will leave sooner or later and we will be fine. Just as we were after the departures of Keane, RVN, Beckham and Ronaldo. We could’ve bought Fabinho and Bernardo and played them with Herrera and we’d have looked far better in midfield than with Pogba and Matic. I’d be very hesitant to sign a Havertz or Aouar type until we sort the squad out as they’ll end up wanting to leave in no time as well.

Football fans are generally a forgiving bunch. You can get away with all manner of things off the pitch, just as long as you deliver for their team on it. Just look at Ryan Giggs.
The fact Pogba hasn’t managed to win the fans over isn’t indicative of some mass conspiracy against him, but suggests he simply hasn’t done enough.
Yes Ashley Young is a shite RB and Paul Pogba has been here in a very difficult time, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not a part of the problem. It’s a team game and he is a part of the team. He likes to think of himself as a world class player, without facing the demands that follows. Where is the logic?

He's by far most talented player in the squad, but he hasn't been playing on his maximum level for some time now. No one expects him to run just for the sake of it, but he could've applied himself a bit better in situations when losing possesion and then jogging around waiting for Matic or Herrera to clean up after him. When on song he's almost unplayable but that's so rare, to rare for a player of that calibur.
If he's unsettled here better to move him on and try to get highest fee possible than forcing him to stay no matter how good he is or could be.
