Pogba is very good, but also overrated, if that's possible. The sort of player a sugardaddy club like City or PSG would throw big money at, but who would never contribute as much as the implied value of his transfer fee.

Also I think when you have a player who is still young but already established as one of the best in the world in his position the fee exponentially rises as you are not only buying proven quality, you are buying the opportunity to have that talent for more years than when buying players at traditional peak ages and you have a premium for the chance that they can still get even better.I think that's the case with a lot of players in that tier. You need to spend what seems like way over the odds to get them. I guess we might have to at some point to keep up?

So few players can offer that combination that their fees do seem very large (especially when they have a decent length contract behind them as well and are based at a financially sound club) - but I doubt Veratti for example would cost much less so top young talent is going to cost a lot.
Id personally not quibble about the cost to bring Pogba back but I doubt Thursday night football holds enough of a draw to get him to even consider it
That's the thing, buying top players off of big clubs, it's impossible to get value. Even with Sterling actively trying to force his way out, Man City had to pay an absolute crapload for him. At a club like Juve, where the player won't be trying to exit it has to be an offer that just can't be denied.I think that's the case with a lot of players in that tier.
