Pochettino | Agrees to be US National Team Coach

Chelsea are a sacking club, so they need an instant manager, not someone like McKenna, Frank. or Kompany who are bound to need a bit of time to have any chance.

I hope managers like this tell them to get stuffed.
It's mad that they buy all this potential which will take time to flourish yet aren't willing to give a manager time. Although think it has nothing to do with this but the fact they keep just giving him players if they fit or not without him having any say. Problem is is that the way we are going to work as well.

Not a strategic fit…

Why hire him in the first place then?
Things change. Probably interviewed really well, then turned out to be a bad fit once he started working there

My understanding is Chelsea already have 2 managers, which is one too many. Pochettino wanted to make it 3, they told him no, and he told them it was best if he left. He didn't resign because why leave money on the table

Was only last month he pretty much went public with this being a real posssibility in a press conference wasn't it?

What happened to Bohley's 10 year plan that the Chelsea fans were banging on about when they hired Potter? Can you have a 10 year plan if you reset every season?

It seems people are shocked based on the strong ending to the season, but when we take a step back and look at it, he wasn't that great at Chelsea, and a month or so back, people, including myself, thought he'd be sacked.

I mean, this is a Chelsea team who have spent so much money, only to scrape 6th place and pretty much sat in and around the bottom half of the table for two thirds of the season.

He also accidently fell into the right team/system. With the injury of Enzo, he decided to put Gallagher deep next to Caicedo and inverted Cucurella. Had he done that at the start of the season, who know's how they'd have got on.

Thank you - this is totally spot on. Him stumbling into a cohesive system in the last 5 games shouldn't overshadow the fact that we were a trainwreck for most of the season.

He didn't do it because he had Enzo that cost a zillion pounds that the owner would want to be playing. The injury actually was a blessing.

Seems silly but no champions league football and your gone much higher standards than some of our fans. Have to admire it, sacking him is worth the risk if the next guy can get them top 4.
I can't believe that after spending a billion quid, falling out with the fans, and finishing 6th we still have United fans claiming they're 'surprised' he's been sacked. Where's the surprise? Really? He's never been an elite manager. Every time he's ended up at a big club they've turfed him out in record time due to his mentality and results.

But the fact they spent so much money surely means you have to allow time. Buying almost an entire new squad over 2 or 3 transfer windows and expecting them to have any kind of cohesion is crazy.

to be fair to bohely, if cordon tells you pochettino’s time is up, then pochettino’s time is up.

But now imagine spending that kind of money and looking worse? Chelsea are probably going to be okay and do better next season, but they won't with Pochettino there.

pro tip for anyone dreading receiving the chelsea call up letter in the post tomorrow; if you say you’re racist, they probably will just get someone else to do it.

Why wouldn’t you take the Chelsea job? Literally guaranteed a payoff.

Capello never worked under Flo. Was Calderon
Sanz also sacked him after winning the league during Capello's first stint in the 90s.

Doesn't help that under Calderón, Capello fell out with just about everyone at the club.

It's nice to see we're not the only circus right now, plus we could even exchange clowns.

He seemed to have done ok and moulded their team over the season IMO. His first season with Spurs was similar.

My two cents as a non Chelsea supporter.

Nonsense. It was only a notable change because Poch all of a sudden couldn't play Gallagher as a 10 in most matches - a position he is wholly unsuited for in any team with aspirations of being taken seriously. Especially when the alternative is Cole Palmer.

Never a dull moment!

The timing is a bit strange as we've done alright for quite some time now. If this would've been announced after the Wolves loss I don't think anyone, including me, would've batted an eye and actually would've welcomed it, but after finally starting to look like a team with tactics and ideas I can't help but feel the board have shot themselves in the foot here unless Poch himself wanted to leave. The momentum going into the summer and next season was positive, and they would've been on the fans' good side for a while if they had let him continue for next season - instead the atmosphere risks becoming very toxic if the new manager doesn't get the team playing well immediately.

If the parting was indeed mutual as it's worded I can see Poch wanting more say in transfer strategy and not getting guarantees that will be the case. I'm not vehemently against this as we can't buy players for different systems every time we get a new manager, but the pessimist in me thinks this might be about Poch wanting to keep Gallagher and Chalobah, and the board saying that they will entertain offers for them in the summer, resulting in Poch saying 'I'm outtie' and the board not being particularly miffed. I don't think we'd be able to get players as good as them for the money we'd receive, and the fans would not react well to the sales of two academy products being sold when their more expensive replacements have been playing worse.

Poch to Brighton? :nervous:

Not that I rate him as much as some of you but this is problem with modern football. You got people who don’t know anything about football making decisions. Managers need time.

Poch wanted to keep Gallagher is basically what this has boiled down to

Yeah, I think its a mistake to see some grand strategic rationale in this decision. Journalists like Ben Jacobs are going to say that kind of thing because their job depends on the access provided by club officials so they'll say whatever they need to say to make Boehly et al look good.

The club's financial shell games require them to sell players like Gallagher and Chalobah this summer to book the accounting profit. Poch naturally doesn't want to sell them because Gallagher has been a pillar of his side and a leader on the pitch, while Chalobah has been arguably the side's best CB since coming back from injury. So, manager sacked, new manager found.

Poch would've definitely shipped Enzo before Gallagher if he had the chance
Enzo has been thoroughly underwhelming in the PL.

He's still absolutely miles better than Gallagher and if Poch can't see that then he deserves to be sacked.

The fundamental problem with Poch is that he genuinely does think Gallagher is better because he can't conceive of a way to play football beyond gegenpressing. It's extremely telling that the guy who has been most associated with this system in Klopp has moved away in recent years because it just doesn't work in the modern game anymore.

I'd have more sympathy for Poch if he hadn't constructed his entire side around Gallagher all season for some deranged reason to the detriment of the team's performance
