Gaming PlayStation 5

Why’s that?
Why he won't be missed by gamers? Because he's a business man with no affinity for games, who has pushed a company whose biggest strength has always been single player games towards live service games at a time when many live service game die within a year. The man who oversaw things like the closure of the beloved Japan Studio, or the price increase on both games and consoles. The man who famously said that he didn't understand why anyone would want to play an old game.

Not that any of it matters of course, he must've done at least something right to have a 30 year career at Sony and he'll just be replaced by another suit, with Sony continuing on their current trajectory. But I doubt there are many gamers who will think of him fondly.

Has anyone played Spider-Man Remastered? With the new one coming out I was getting an itch to play the first one on the PS5. How good is the upgrade? Does it nearly reach Miles Morales levels? Really wish they had included this in Ps Plus.

Essentially I want to play all the worthy PS5 upgraded games at some point. Ghost of Tsushima in particular is a brilliant upgrade - absolutely amazing upon replay. With Spider-Man’s swift and rhythmic nature im thinking it would be a natural fit for a big upgrade (especially 60fps).

Most of the upgrades in the remastered are visual changes it does play far more smoothly on 120hz VRR to some degree feels like a different game entirely. Fundamentally for me Spiderman (1) is a better game than Myles Morales. One thing that irritates me is the combat was more disjointed in the Myles game, they changed the timing window for counters in combat, felt more lethargic. It's a small gripe but I feel the first Spiderman has more similarities to an Arkham experience in fluidity when fighting.

MM felt rushed and I reckon was short for the games release to comply with the console launch, so there's far less depth to the story and character development.

I too have began to replay the first edition on new game + in the little down time available but I reckon Spiderman 2 will mirror the mechanics of MM with enhancements.

I think insomniac have done a fantastic job with the two titles thus far, I'm expecting nothing less of brilliance in the new third installment.

To be honest I really really enjoyed Miles Morales maybe even more so in terms of ‘fun per second’ than the base game. But that’s most likely because it was my first AAA game on the PS5. In that sense I think Spider-Man Remastered makes sense for me to play again as the leap from the base ps4 version to ps5 should make it worth the 20 dollar price tag (I hope!).

Thank god we are getting a TLOU2 remaster and the Factions multiplayer is cancelled. Sony doing the Lord's work.

Why on earth does tlou2 need remastering?! It's still one of the best graphical games of all time and runs 60fps on ps5

I didn’t know much about the factions game but if the Last of Us want to do multiplayer then they basically need to create their own version of DMZ from MW2. It’s perfect for it.

Great news

The multiplayer in TLOU1 was fantastic and should have been there at launch of TLOU2. That they discarded it in favour of this, which seemingly has since been cancelled, is pretty shit going.

Whatever this is won’t require that much effort. Hopefully we get another single player game instead - something Naughty Dog are brilliant at.

Aren’t they working on both the TLOU multiplayer and a new SP game as well or have I missed something since this last official post in May? Agree with your last comment - their single player games are indeed fantastic.

Are Naughty Dog gonna do anything new for the PS5? Seems like all they've done recently are remasters.

What do you mean? They aimed to have it at release of TLOU2 but instead over 3 years later it looks to be delayed indefinitely/cancelled?

Halo got loads of stick for not having co-op at launch because that's what's expected - even though it came eventually. Yet after 4 Uncharted games and a TLOU game that all had great PVP this is okay?

I'm not bothered about Factions. I'd be quite happy with the equivalent of the multiplayer from the 1st game which was fantastic (outside some pay to win bullshit).

Yes it’s okay for me. Don’t give it a shit about multiplayer. I’d rather they stick to single player which is what I like and what they do exceptionally well.

Then what a waste of resources. And that's the direction Sony are pushing their other studios. Maybe this will help persuade them to focus back on SP.

Their multiplayer was great though. It should have been there at launch. Great for you that you didn't personally play it but doesn't stop it being wank for those that did and have been waiting for it.

I dont get the point of it to be honest. Theres only so many times you can resell the same game and I dont really see where you go with the series from a story perspective. I mean Druckman has kind of said he doesn't have a follow up himself.
Mechanically it was a great game and if i was going to play a multiplayer survival battle royal or whatever then it could potentially be a pretty brilliant game. Yeah i'd be ultra cynical about it and expecting it to be a shallow grift basically. I think i hate remasters more than multiplayer games that at least have the potential to be fun (i like multiplayer in principle).
EDIT: missed the above tweet, sounds fine to be honest.

That tweet is from May. Lots of rumours last few weeks that it's on ice indefinitely following some departures (redundancies i believe) from ND.

I only got around to playing the first this year, and it definitely left me craving more. Do you reckon there’s any point in waiting for the remastered one over the existing one?

Sounds like it is to do with releasing on PC and I'd guess will coincide with Season 2 coming out in a year's time.
After the PC release of TLoU Part I, there was always going to be a PC version of the second game as well, so yeah that makes perfect sense. Ideally it'd be done by Nixxes instead of Naughty Dog themselves, but they're already doing Horizon, no idea about their capacity to do multiple projects.

As for PS5, well I can maaaaybe see it make sense to port some of the engine upgrades from Part I to Part II and release a native PS5 version for that game, but if that doesn't include a €10 upgrade path (or better yet, free, but that's obviously not Sony's MO), I think all hell is going to break loose. Naughty Dog feels on the brink of becoming a bit of a laughing stock, after years of being known as one of the best studios in the industry. It's painful to see what is happening.

They've already done a FPS update for the PS5. It's absolutely incredible graphically. I'd just go for it.

This.

The animations are amazing. It looks better than most games already.

Finished Uncharted 4 and thought it was fantastic, best game I've played in a while. Will try the standalone now but after that I have nothing to play.

New line up for Ps plus extra is poor again. Discon Elysium (played it) aside nothing great in there with Gotham Knights as the headline act. Oh well at least it’s not Saints Row I suppose.

It’s not poor just cause you’ve played it. It’s one of the best games ever made!

Gotham Knights is a decent headline imo. I wouldn't want to spend real money on it but could be fun for a weekend. Anyone who hasn't played Disco Elysium is in for a treat too.

Bungie must have thought factions was complete trash for it to end up cancelled after this long. I'm disappointed, because factions in the first game is one of the best MP games I've ever played. They didn't need to do anything special with it in TLOU2. Get rid of guns being part of MTX and new maps. It would have been fine.

TLOU2 getting a remaster is stupid. The game already looks and plays amazing on the PS5. Tired of these shitty remasters. Give us something new already.

At least we have Insomniac putting out quality new products.

Yeah looking at those rumours it would appear the Last of us online wasn’t in good shape. So probably best to pill the plug rather than release a shit fest like Redfall

The remaster is just going to be one of those €10 upgrades if you already own the game I reckon which is fine. I will probably play it again if that’s the case

 You can’t give out thats it’s shit month if you already played the game. That’s on you

since these services have gotten better I’ve not purchased one single indie game for the last 2-3 years. Also buy far less big releases apart from games I absolutely want day one. You can be 99% sure they will appear on Game Pass or Ps Plus
